Roll Call
Hi All - I'm Pigletto here as well as on Shelfari.
Hi! Thought I had checked in here but either I didn't or I just can't find me. My name on Shelfari is currently: Bel ~ call me Angharrad. If you click you'll see my profile.
Hey fellow shelfarians! I'm Tanya D. both places. Thanks LibraryCin for posting the link over at PBT.
Tanya D wrote: "Hey fellow shelfarians! I'm Tanya D. both places. Thanks LibraryCin for posting the link over at PBT."No problem! I only joined here a few months ago (end of August, I think), and it was shortly after that that Mara started this group. I had asked in a few shelfari groups who was over here, so I could find some familiar faces! So, I thought there might be more people who might want to find some of those same familiar faces. :-)
Thanks for the friend requsts and the group requst maybe I will finally use this site and figure my way around it. Deborah O on Shelfari Deborah O'Regan on Goodreads so not much of a difference there ha!
I'm S. Jaede on Shelfari and Sabrina here. Thanks to the Play Book Tag Group on Shelfari, I found this group here.
Hi...it's me...Kim (KimBear). I'm happy to have found you all. Now to get a handle on this site! Thanks for starting this Mara. :)
Hey its me, Foggy. Thanks to Book Concierge I found this group and you can blame her for the fact the you've got a rooster in the group now! I've belonged to GR for quite a while now but never really bothered with it since Shelfari is so much easier to use. I downloaded my book list quite a while ago and now have been updating it and straightening it out. It is good to be here.

Watch yourself, Foggy ... we've also got a "bear"

Hi all, this is grammarchick from Shelfari. I think I see a couple folks from the I Am Not A Book Snob group!
Hi, it's Kythe42, same name and avatar on both sites. I've been on GoodReads for awhile but just found the Shelfari group.Seems I'm one of the few people that actually prefer the group format here over than what Shelfari has(though that's pretty much the only thing I like better).
I guess it's just that I've used message boards in general for a long time and pretty much all of them have a format similar to GoodReads. I'm used to having quoted replies to help me figure out who I'm responding to and the only bad thing about how they do it on GoodReads is that they don't automatically quote the whole post. I'd rather edit out the stuff that I don't want to quote than manually have to add it back in.
Maybe I'd like Shelfari's system better if they had quoted posts in addition to the nesting or had more levels of nesting. I also like that topics here can have multiple pages so that improves load time. On Shelfari everything is on one page and you can endlessly be scrolling to get to the bottom. I also like the group structure here as far as how the posts can be organized into different folders and things like that.
Despite liking the group setup here better though I'm really only active in one group on here vs the handful of groups I'm active on with Shelfari. Part of it is probably because I've been on Shelfari longer, but I think it's also to do with the fact that there's such an overwhelming number of groups on here that it's hard to find ones that suit me that are active. So I pretty much just picked one Sci-fi/Fantasy group that was large and active(on four different ones on Shelfari).

Hi, Kythe ... nice to see you here as well as on Shelfari.
Hi, Kythe ... nice to see you here as well as on Shelfari.
Hi, Kythe! Welcome! You've probably seen me at shelfari in the "official" shelfari groups. My next favourite site after shelfari is actually LibraryThing, but I'm not sure there are enough shelfarians there to warrant starting a group such as this, which is too bad, really...
But, I'm keeping both LT and GR as backups. (Although my GR import didn't go well, so if I want it as a true backup, I need to do a lot of tweaking. I'm still not done the tweaking at LT, but it is/will be much faster than here.)
I agree that I like LT second best. Actually I like LT's shelving system the best for customization, though Shelfari is much more visually pleasing. Groups on LT look very confusing and awkward to use though, especially as far as how replies in the threads were done. I think they simply referenced which post number you were replying to... As such I'm not actually active in any groups there even though I joined a few.
I'm following two groups at LibraryThing and finding it easier to follow discussions and get to know people at LT than Goodreads. I think it is because LT is smaller.
Heya, ScoLgo here, (and on Shelfari). Not really loving the Goodreads web interface but they do have a mobile app here and, from what I understand, you can use it to scan your book info into the website. That sounds handy but I haven't tried it yet to see how well it works.Anyway, I really like the way Shelfari is laid out but I still plan on giving this site some time to see if I can get used to it.
Thanks for starting this group!
>73. Kythe, I also like the shelf customization at LT. To be honest, though, I find groups at LT and here are similar - at least for not having nested replies like at shelfari, which is really what I like best about shelfari groups. I guess I'm not as involved in groups here, though (except this one!). Ha! I just noticed (as I have become much more involved in one particular group at LT, that I just replied as if I'm there!)I do like the way to follow groups at LT. You don't have to join the groups, but you can still follow them, or one thread within a group if that's what you wanted to follow.
I'm afraid that most people don't even give LT a chance because of the cost - though it is quite minimal.
>77. Welcome ScoLgo! I've seen you at shelfari a bit, too.
ScoLgo wrote: "Heya, ScoLgo here, (and on Shelfari). One thing, the book you scan are automatically put on 'Read' shelf, but you can change that before you click save.
LibraryCin wrote: ">73. Kythe, I also like the shelf customization at LT. Hi everyone..... I'm Auntie-Nanuuq in shelfari.
I had another account here years ago and once I found Shelfari, I stopped using it. Since I have no idea what that was/is, I signed up again as Library-KAT!
We'll see how long this lasts for me.... I don't really like the format of the group pages, it is more difficult for me to see.

I like your GR name, Auntie. I'm Kentucky Reader at Shelfari.

Hi there,I'm Bluebird on Shelfari and here (and Bluebird1 @ Librarything). I finally got my shelves here up to date. I have Goodreads and Librarything as backups--just in case. I'm not sure how active I'll be in the groups though--like others, I find the format of the discussions a bit hard to follow.

Hi:) I don't really find the discussions here so good, and I prefer the shelf layout to the list over here but it is good to have a backup lol
Hi, Bluebird! I'm going to find you on LibraryThing (I'm also LibraryCin over there). I still prefer shelfari to either of the other sites, but I have started becoming slightly more active over at LT.
Bluebird, I am also on LibraryThing, as kristelh, http://www.librarything.com/profile/K...I do not know how to find people on LT. I am using LT more this year.

I'm also on LibraryThing, but have never even built my shelf there. I joined way back in 2010 and recently got an email about their security breach, so now have free lifetime membership ... better get busy building my shelves!

They gave away free lifetime membership because of the breach? That almost makes me feel a bit cheated as I'd already paid for a lifetime membership, but maybe I wouldn't have been granted one anyway as my account wasn't one affected by the breach. I didn't even have an account when the breach happened, but they still made me change my password...
I got that email and had to change my password, as well. I wasn't a member during the breach, either, but I don't recall seeing anything about a free lifetime membership about it... ?I joined when LT was offering a free year. That year should come up in March, so I am planning to pay for the lifetime membership.
Maybe I'll go back and double check the email?
Ok, BC is correct. This is from the blog post on LT:"Because the hack undermines a customer relationship, we have chosen to upgrade to “lifetime” accounts all members who joined before November 20th, 2011."
So, that's only for those who joined earlier.
Here is a link to the entire post with more info on the hack:

I do think it's a nice thing for them to do. I am still happy to pay for the lifetime membership when it's my turn to. It's really not all that much, so I'm ok with it.
Ok so I wasn't really cheated. I agree that it's not much to pay and I was happy to pay it at the time after I decided I liked LT a lot and wanted them to be a backup site.
Same here, I paid the lifetime fee and I am happy to be a member. I am getting more involved and I like the site quite a bit. They were down briefly yesterday as well.

I've had a Goodreads account for a long time actually, but never really did anything with it. I just deleted all my books here and imported my Shelfari shelf, that was quite an undertaking, but at least I'll be a little more "settled". It's great to see so many familiar faces. I am phjenn on shelfari, here I think they have me as Jen, but I guess I'll see when I post this. The profile pic isn't the same though.
This format will take some getting used to, but it'll come with time I'm sure, just like Shelfari.
