Okay I posted kind of this in another topic, but here's the short version.
The world was in disaster. War, violence, plague, famine, death, hate, and corrupt governments. Humans are going to die UNLESS they find formidable, level headed leaders. How to find people like this? Devise a experiment and testing system. These level-headed leaders are the Divergent. Chicago with factions was created as an experiment to generate and single out level-headed leaders to go back out to the real world that was in catastrophe and fix it. The lady talking was Tris' grandma.
