Eragon

Who thinks the movie Eragon sucks compared to the books?

Actually, that movie isn't based on eragon. A movie based oon the book was made, and it was awful. but how to train your dragon is not supposed to be affiliated w/ eragon.
I was SO disappointed about the movie. They left out all the great parts, and I really did NOT like the casting! Except for Jeremy Irons as Brom! He did very well! But yeah, all in all it was NOT for me. The books were great though :)

They left out so much of the book. My biggest disappointment was the disregard for Roran. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

1. The book was awful.
2. It was made by one of those film studios who, despite being addicated to money, are so focused on getting money that they put no effort into the films they make, thus producing atrocious films and earning no money.
These people can make awful movies out of good books. What they do when they get their hands on a book like 'Eragon' is too dreadful to comprehend.

Some authors ego's are so inflated they are just happy to see their name in the credits.
IF I were to write a book and IF some studio wanted the movie rights, I would not relinquious (I learned to read by phonics, and that's my excuse for spelling errors when writing on my tablet) my right to control the movie's artistic content.
However, $3,000,000 Might make me re-think my position.

I'd rather watch the film, back to back, for a week without break, than have to read the book again.

:o I...I...I can't even...no words.

But each to their own, I suppose - hahaha! ;)

first of all, they made Eragon a whole two years older in the movie.
second, Brom looked like he might have been thirty.
there was no festival.
the butcher shop was dirty.
the Ra'zac were killed in the first half-hour.
Arya's character was completely different.
Murtagh was a lot less developed.
Saphira's design was off.
Saphira's story was off.
there was just so much wrong with the movie that i would rather watch the percy jackson movies than the eragon movie. it needs to be remade into the movie it was meant to be, and i plan to be the one to do that.

you have to remember that Christopher Paolini was only a teenager when he wrote the first book. I'm sure he's gone back and thought about redoing the series, but what's done is done. I bet that you weren't too good at writing when you were young, and looking back at some of your earlier work would probably make you hate yourself. But this book is really enjoyable to a younger audience that doesn't know to look for errors, they just enjoy the story and read it because they want to.

but, even though you make a sound argument, you haven't answered her question. Did the movie make people want to read the book? no. if i had seen that movie before reading the book i would have turned around and walked away from it. the movie does almost nothing to actually make the book seem worthy of reading. from it's choppy plot to its poor description of monsters, i hated the movie and would not use it as a description for the book. they are, in fact, separate entities entirely. the book is something that i would hand to a child who was lost in the fiction section of a library. the movie is something that i would throw into the depths of hell and use to torture evil souls with.

i dream of one day becoming a director and make the remake myself... of course it's a dream, maybe, who knows?
I just know that Eragon..."
arya as a character was meant to provide a bit of relief to the classic heroin scenario- ex. the damsel in distress falling in love with her knight. arya views eragon as nothing but a pest for the bigger part of the first book. but she knows that he is vital to her survival and the survival of the varden, and so she deigns to help him. eragon is then portayed as a love-struck 16 year-old, he makes mistakes and that makes him human. what the movie does is dramatize eragons character and turn arya into a damsel instead of the badass warrior elf princess that she is. she even reject him up until the very end of the series. they never end up in a relationship, even though eragon tried his hardest to get her to love him. this is just another reason why the book is so much better than that sorry excuse for a movie.

I know that it is very hard not to judge a book by it's cover, but I'll never underestimate a book just because the movie was a real fiasco.

Seriously, Jocelyn? You really haven't heard? Okay: Here is one of the more oft reported examples:
Just compare these two sections, the first from Eragon:
The Anora River flowed between them and the town, spanned by a stout bridge. As they approached it, a greasy man stepped (out) from behind a bush and barred their way. His shirt was too short and his dirty stomach spilled over a rope belt. Behind his cracked lips, his teeth looked like crumbling tombstones.
“You c’n stop right there. This’s my bridge. Gotta pay t’ get over.”
“How much?” asked Brom in a resigned voice. He pulled out a pouch and the bridge keeper brightened.
“Five crowns” he said, pulling his lips into a broad smile.
Eragon’s temper flared at the exorbitant price, and he started to complain hotly, but Brom silenced him with a quick look. The coins were wordlessly handed over. The man put them into a sack hanging from his belt.
“Thank’ee much” he said in a mocking tone and stood out of the way.
As Brom stepped forward, he stumbled and caught the bridge keeper’s arm to support himself.
“Watch y’re step” snarled the grimy man sidling away.
“Sorry” apologised Brom, and continued over the bridge with Eragon.
“Why didn’t you haggle? He skinned you alive!” exclaimed Eragon. “He probably doesn’t even own the bridge.”
“Probably” agreed Brom.
“Then why pay him?”
“Because you can’t argue with all the fools in the world. It’s easier to let them have their way, then trick them when they’re not paying attention.” Brom opened his hand, and a pile of coins glinted in the sun.
“You cut his purse!” said Eragon incredulously. Brom pocketed the money with a wink. There was a sudden howl of anguish from the other side of the river. “I’d say our friend has just discovered his loss.”
From "The Ruby Knight" by David Eddings:
"Beside the ford stood a small hut. The man who owned it was a sharp eyed fellow in a green tunic who demanded a toll to cross. Rather than argue with him, Sparhawk paid what he asked. “Tell me neighbour,” he asked when the transaction was completed “how far is the Pelosian border?”
“About five leagues” the sharp eyed man replied. “If you move along, you should reach it by afternoon.”
They splashed on across the ford. When they reached the other side, Talen rode up to Sparhawk. Here’s your money back,” the young boy said, handing over several coins.
Sparhawk gave him a startled look.
“I don’t object to paying a toll to cross a bridge” Talen sniffed. “After all, someone had to go to the expense of building it. That fellow was just taking advantage of a natural shallow place in the river. It didn’t cost him anything, so why should he make a profit from it?
“You cut his purse, then?”
“Naturally.”
“And there was more in it than just my coins?”
“A bit. Let’s call it my fee for recovering your money. After all, I deserve a profit too, don’t I?”
“You’re incorrigible.”
“I needed the practice.”
From the other side of the river came a howl of anguish.
“I’d say he just discovered his loss” observed Sparhawk.
“It does sort of sound that way, doesn’t it?
Then there is the thing that the Eragon is a poor retelling of Star Wars:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhA0H...
Everything is pinched. Whole scenes from the Belgariad, story structure from Star Wars, magic system from Le Guin, too much is "borrowed" from LOTR: http://inheritance.wikia.com/wiki/Cri...
And here are a few more points for you: http://grocerystorefeet.com/2011/11/2...
But mostly... a book about Dragon's called Eragon? Seriously? That has to be the dumbest title I've ever seen...

So I was looking for the movie of Eragon (because I loved the books so much) and I see this movie poster for it.

that comment tho...
the movie was awful. THEY DIDN'T GET THE MEMO ON HAIR COLORS.
(this guy and the guy who did actor casting for TMI are obvously BFFS)

There's just too much in the book to cram into a single movie, I think.

How could u even like the movie tho...

So, for me it sucked. But, it is a good movie if you remove the title Eragon. If there was no book to compare it with, it would be a perfectly good movie. But, there is a book, so not a good movie. Skip watching if possible.

Um…. I really hope that you are joking. How to Train Your Dragon is a completely different series that will soon have 12 books and has nothing to do with Eragon. Just… no.

This incredible story deserved so much more! I bet Christopher Paolini cries every night, like I do.

I loved the books too, and the movie was just messed up. I wish Christopher Paolini was helping direct that movie.
