Varsha Ha Ha..
I loved the books too, and the movie was just messed up. I wish Christopher Paolini was helping direct that movie.

Tanisha Christie They RUINED the movie!!! There was only a bit here and there from the book in the movie. And the actors/ actresses were nothing like in the book. I mean Arya does NOT have red hair!

message 203: by Foxie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Foxie I didn't watch the movie.

Katherine Josie wrote: "I watched the movie when I was a bit younger and decided the book had to be better than the movie, so after watching it I had always wanted to read the series. When I did my perspective changed and..."

Actually, that movie isn't based on eragon. A movie based oon the book was made, and it was awful. but how to train your dragon is not supposed to be affiliated w/ eragon.

message 206: by Enoc (new) - rated it 2 stars

Enoc Ruíz They made it all wrong, I was very disappointed, and I don't think they make the next movies.

message 207: by Shaun (new) - rated it 4 stars

Shaun Dowdall I don't dare watch the movie, I've heard such terrible reports about it.

message 208: by [deleted user] (new)

I was SO disappointed about the movie. They left out all the great parts, and I really did NOT like the casting! Except for Jeremy Irons as Brom! He did very well! But yeah, all in all it was NOT for me. The books were great though :)

message 209: by SaraElle (new) - added it

SaraElle This movie is one that I was told not to go see. I didn't go to the theatre to see it but I did break down and bought the dvd. When I saw the dvd, I knew there was something missing so I read the book soon after. Boy, I was disappointed with the movie. To this day, I'm still disappointed with it.

They left out so much of the book. My biggest disappointment was the disregard for Roran. And that's all I'm going to say about that.

message 210: by Cheryl (new) - added it

Cheryl The books are totally awesome. the movie compared to the book was terrible. BUT it was a movie with a Dragon they are few and far between .

I'mogén Martin wrote: "To be honest, I never thought the books were that great, although they were definitely impressive considering the author' sage. I think a more 'experienced' group of actors should have been cast for a stronger performance.

Chris Whybrow The film was awful for two reasons:
1. The book was awful.
2. It was made by one of those film studios who, despite being addicated to money, are so focused on getting money that they put no effort into the films they make, thus producing atrocious films and earning no money.

These people can make awful movies out of good books. What they do when they get their hands on a book like 'Eragon' is too dreadful to comprehend.

Gauravpati Singh It was one of the worst fantasy adaptations of all time! Producers had no intention to sticking to the series as a novel story worth reading as much as getting a screenplay adapted script worth & ONLY worth fitting within an hour & a half timeline.Paolini deserves better than that! He's young & was most probably hoodwinked by money-minded producers.Starcast notwithstanding, their tinkering with story or taking ANY depth or effort into any of characters was lazy,non-existent & worst reprisal in editing (Like LOTR, they tried to inculcate some parts of 2nd or 3rd book in 1rst book's movie itself)They ought to reboot & remake the series & if movie is made that's 4 hr long, so be it & be presented as such! But MAKE it worth a watch & let it feel we are living that story in Alagaesia

message 214: by Bob (new) - rated it 4 stars

Bob When I paid $1 to rent the movie, I wanted to ask for 99¢ back.

Some authors ego's are so inflated they are just happy to see their name in the credits.

IF I were to write a book and IF some studio wanted the movie rights, I would not relinquious (I learned to read by phonics, and that's my excuse for spelling errors when writing on my tablet) my right to control the movie's artistic content.

However, $3,000,000 Might make me re-think my position.

message 215: by Tony (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tony Smith The movie could have been better.

message 216: by Richard (new) - rated it 1 star

Richard Hahahaha! The movie is bland, predictable and naff... but it would have to be on a whole different scale of crapness to compare with the pubescent expectoration that is the book.
I'd rather watch the film, back to back, for a week without break, than have to read the book again.

Rhiannon Noecker I was so disappointed in the movie... ruined the book. You couldn't even understand who the characters were or their motivations in the movie unless you read the book first.

Stephanie The movie was one of the biggest disappointments that I have to experience. It tarnishes the series and changed way too much. =(

message 219: by Jden (new)

Jden Sengkhammee Well it depends. If someone watched the movie first then they would think it was better than the book. But if they would've read the book instead first then the book would have been 100+ times better than that excuse you call a movie. I read the books first and was amazed by all vthe detail and adventure Eragon went through. Not to mention his problems and love for his cousin, father, friends and well arya. But the movie didn't have half the characters, motives or plot. Overall the book was better (to me) and the movie was horrible.

message 220: by Jocelyn (new)

Jocelyn Guys, I am so happy that people continue to talk about the tragedy that is Eragon the film! It didn't do Paolini's work any justice!I hope and pray that Peter Jackson-any body with some skill- will take it upon himself to redeem this movie!!

message 222: by Richard (new) - rated it 1 star

Richard Thank you Jocelyn, your reaction has cheered me - maybe the message will get through one day, eh? I only came here to troll the likers of this worse-than-amateur, tawdry, uninspired, trope-filled, cliche-ridden piece of plagiaristic latrine-blocker of a book.
But each to their own, I suppose - hahaha! ;)

message 223: by Jocelyn (new)

Jocelyn Plagiaristic? C'mon, you've got to back up your claims. And you described Eragon as 'naff'. Care to explain?

Booksbrainsandanime the movie was just awful compared to the book. even as a movie it was bad.
first of all, they made Eragon a whole two years older in the movie.
second, Brom looked like he might have been thirty.
there was no festival.
the butcher shop was dirty.
the Ra'zac were killed in the first half-hour.
Arya's character was completely different.
Murtagh was a lot less developed.
Saphira's design was off.
Saphira's story was off.
there was just so much wrong with the movie that i would rather watch the percy jackson movies than the eragon movie. it needs to be remade into the movie it was meant to be, and i plan to be the one to do that.

Booksbrainsandanime Kim wrote: "The movie didn't stand a chance considering how poorly written the book is."
you have to remember that Christopher Paolini was only a teenager when he wrote the first book. I'm sure he's gone back and thought about redoing the series, but what's done is done. I bet that you weren't too good at writing when you were young, and looking back at some of your earlier work would probably make you hate yourself. But this book is really enjoyable to a younger audience that doesn't know to look for errors, they just enjoy the story and read it because they want to.

Booksbrainsandanime Samantha The Escapist wrote: "Jeni wrote: "I tend to view the movies made from books as separate entities from those books. Consider them a truncated, visual teaser to a book, if you will, but I have yet to see any books truly..."

but, even though you make a sound argument, you haven't answered her question. Did the movie make people want to read the book? no. if i had seen that movie before reading the book i would have turned around and walked away from it. the movie does almost nothing to actually make the book seem worthy of reading. from it's choppy plot to its poor description of monsters, i hated the movie and would not use it as a description for the book. they are, in fact, separate entities entirely. the book is something that i would hand to a child who was lost in the fiction section of a library. the movie is something that i would throw into the depths of hell and use to torture evil souls with.

arya as a character was meant to provide a bit of relief to the classic heroin scenario- ex. the damsel in distress falling in love with her knight. arya views eragon as nothing but a pest for the bigger part of the first book. but she knows that he is vital to her survival and the survival of the varden, and so she deigns to help him. eragon is then portayed as a love-struck 16 year-old, he makes mistakes and that makes him human. what the movie does is dramatize eragons character and turn arya into a damsel instead of the badass warrior elf princess that she is. she even reject him up until the very end of the series. they never end up in a relationship, even though eragon tried his hardest to get her to love him. this is just another reason why the book is so much better than that sorry excuse for a movie.

message 228: by Sohail (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sohail It was horrible !! And Basically just what happens to MOST of the Really good books turned into movies...I hated the movie Eragon and thankfully have completely forgotten it !!

Michał Szydłowski The book itself sucked so badly, that it was hard to do a good movie out of it. But I'll give you this - they managed to make it even worse ;)

message 230: by Shakal (new) - rated it 3 stars

Shakal I firs met the dragon Saphyra in the movie. Ears later I touched in a library the book. I never wanted to let it down, those people wanted to go hone and they couldn't because the last customer wasn't leaving the book shop. Once again it was proved to me that the book beats the movie very hard.
I know that it is very hard not to judge a book by it's cover, but I'll never underestimate a book just because the movie was a real fiasco.

Victoire- Daughter of the Darkling The only reason that I watch that movie at all is when I feel like having a reason to rant. There are so many things wrong with that movie that it would take at least a month to list them all. The books were amazing. Very well thought out and a lot of imagination was put into it. If the movie had been made properly it could have been like the Lord of the Rings in terms of success. These are some of my favorite books and it saddens me to see how they treated the movie.

Richard Jocelyn wrote: "Plagiaristic? C'mon, you've got to back up your claims."

Seriously, Jocelyn? You really haven't heard? Okay: Here is one of the more oft reported examples:
Just compare these two sections, the first from Eragon:

The Anora River flowed between them and the town, spanned by a stout bridge. As they approached it, a greasy man stepped (out) from behind a bush and barred their way. His shirt was too short and his dirty stomach spilled over a rope belt. Behind his cracked lips, his teeth looked like crumbling tombstones.
“You c’n stop right there. This’s my bridge. Gotta pay t’ get over.”
“How much?” asked Brom in a resigned voice. He pulled out a pouch and the bridge keeper brightened.
“Five crowns” he said, pulling his lips into a broad smile.
Eragon’s temper flared at the exorbitant price, and he started to complain hotly, but Brom silenced him with a quick look. The coins were wordlessly handed over. The man put them into a sack hanging from his belt.
“Thank’ee much” he said in a mocking tone and stood out of the way.
As Brom stepped forward, he stumbled and caught the bridge keeper’s arm to support himself.
“Watch y’re step” snarled the grimy man sidling away.
“Sorry” apologised Brom, and continued over the bridge with Eragon.
“Why didn’t you haggle? He skinned you alive!” exclaimed Eragon. “He probably doesn’t even own the bridge.”
“Probably” agreed Brom.
“Then why pay him?”
“Because you can’t argue with all the fools in the world. It’s easier to let them have their way, then trick them when they’re not paying attention.” Brom opened his hand, and a pile of coins glinted in the sun.
“You cut his purse!” said Eragon incredulously. Brom pocketed the money with a wink. There was a sudden howl of anguish from the other side of the river. “I’d say our friend has just discovered his loss.”

From "The Ruby Knight" by David Eddings:

"Beside the ford stood a small hut. The man who owned it was a sharp eyed fellow in a green tunic who demanded a toll to cross. Rather than argue with him, Sparhawk paid what he asked. “Tell me neighbour,” he asked when the transaction was completed “how far is the Pelosian border?”
“About five leagues” the sharp eyed man replied. “If you move along, you should reach it by afternoon.”
They splashed on across the ford. When they reached the other side, Talen rode up to Sparhawk. Here’s your money back,” the young boy said, handing over several coins.
Sparhawk gave him a startled look.
“I don’t object to paying a toll to cross a bridge” Talen sniffed. “After all, someone had to go to the expense of building it. That fellow was just taking advantage of a natural shallow place in the river. It didn’t cost him anything, so why should he make a profit from it?
“You cut his purse, then?”
“Naturally.”
“And there was more in it than just my coins?”
“A bit. Let’s call it my fee for recovering your money. After all, I deserve a profit too, don’t I?”
“You’re incorrigible.”
“I needed the practice.”
From the other side of the river came a howl of anguish.
“I’d say he just discovered his loss” observed Sparhawk.
“It does sort of sound that way, doesn’t it?

Then there is the thing that the Eragon is a poor retelling of Star Wars:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uhA0H...

Everything is pinched. Whole scenes from the Belgariad, story structure from Star Wars, magic system from Le Guin, too much is "borrowed" from LOTR: http://inheritance.wikia.com/wiki/Cri...

And here are a few more points for you: http://grocerystorefeet.com/2011/11/2...

But mostly... a book about Dragon's called Eragon? Seriously? That has to be the dumbest title I've ever seen...

Gabriel Q. I wanted to see solembum in the movie.

message 234: by Alex (new) - rated it 5 stars

Alex Consider why Eragon is such a engaging book. In my opinion it was all about Paolini's attention to detail. Unfortunately, films producers generally allow a hour and a half on average for a single movie. Describing accurately the events in the book would be nearly impossible to translate to film. I almost hope they make a new movie, in a trio of installments. But I agree that Eragon the movie is a horrible representation of the book. (the movie only visits like 2 of the 11 cities from the book!)

that comment tho...
the movie was awful. THEY DIDN'T GET THE MEMO ON HAIR COLORS.
(this guy and the guy who did actor casting for TMI are obvously BFFS)

Anthony Wade Ugh, no... the movie was TERRIBLE. Not as bad as the Last Airbender but pretty close.

There's just too much in the book to cram into a single movie, I think.

Varsha The movie is horrible if you've read the book first then watched it.
So, for me it sucked. But, it is a good movie if you remove the title Eragon. If there was no book to compare it with, it would be a perfectly good movie. But, there is a book, so not a good movie. Skip watching if possible.

Um…. I really hope that you are joking. How to Train Your Dragon is a completely different series that will soon have 12 books and has nothing to do with Eragon. Just… no.

message 245: by Kalli (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kalli I totally agree. I rented the dvd from the library and books and movies are sacred to me. But as soon as I watched this I wanted to take it and break it into a million pieces I WAS SOOOO DISAPPOINTED AND FURIOUS that Christopher Paolini would let them destroy his book. Brom doesnt die by saving durza from impaling Eragon with a spear and hitting Brom instead, he dies from the Razac wound and in the book Brom is portrayed as a retired big-bellied Dragon Rider not some anorexic person. Arya is a lethal elf (btw they had the actress dye her hair blond cuz its blonder than her natural hair for that movie particularly) RORAN DOESNT JOIN GALBATORIX'S ARMY!!!!!!These are just A FEW things of what they changed!!! THIS MOVIE SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED ME. They could have made millions off this series if they hadnt not butchered the movie.

Shahanaz Hameed I do. its what happens to good books Turned into movies. Such a waste.

message 247: by Melisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Melisa Mantilla The cast was wrong, the script was even worst, Saphira had feathers, it was a mess! I think that movie is the worst adaptation ever. Is like they took the book, threw it in the trash and did a movie with dragons and a guy with constipated face.

This incredible story deserved so much more! I bet Christopher Paolini cries every night, like I do.

message 248: by Shauna (new) - rated it 5 stars

message 249: by Tammy (new) - rated it 5 stars
