SOLVED. Main character is a baker and has 3 life-changing days [s]

The main character is a baker and is born just as his grandfather is dying. His grandfather predicts 3 life-changing days and the book chronicles those days. One of those days he's in a tunnel, another a snowstorm. (The book is much better than I'm describing it.) It's from the late 90's or early 2000's and written by a male author. I can give the ending if needed but don't want to spoil it in the first post. =) Thank you! Andrea
