I'm bitter sweet about John getting married :-/ I am a huge fan of the original Conan Doyle books and I appreciate the loyalty to them, but at the same time I don't want to see John move out :0

God, I can't wait for Sherlock to finally come back, and I refuse to watch Elementary. American films are terrible!!!! Excluding, of course, The Matrix, Star Wars, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, etc.
Hihi Khali! :D Seems like I haven't seen you in ages! I think we've got some good films going for us. But EEP LOTR! HARRY! STAR WARS!
*dies* ^_^

Ditto that. :/

I kinda refused to watch Elementary too - more because at the time it seemed they were riding the wave of Gatiss and Moffat's success without giving them much credit for it.Now I think it stands on its own two feet, and I'm considering watching it :D. Apparently Joan's sass is hilarious.
America produces so many films some of them would have to be good (in fact I love A LOT of them )- but for the amount of films Britain produces, I'd say we have a higher quality-quantity ratio :) If that makes sense to anyone at all.
So I just finished watching this last night. Overall I think it's brilliant, I love the references to the original stories, I think the supporting cast is great and it's really fun to watch. I thought the cliffhanger to the first series was SO annoying but I wasn't as bothered by the one to the 2nd, even though it does get one thinking.I'm still not sure about Moriarty, part of me thinks they've modeled him too much on the Joker, and I always imagined him more as the calculating cool type rather than the explosive on-the-edge-of-insanity type.
So how do people think he faked his own death? I think he was definitely prepared and I think the people surrounding him were part of his homeless network, and perhaps they broke his fall. I like the theory that it was a Sherlock lookalike who kidnapped the girl and that's who they used for the dead body.
@ Robert, Mark Gattis and Steven Moffet wanted to do a different Moriarty. And I don't think they ment to make him that different but that is what Andrew Scott brought to the role.

Since they couldn't be at Comic-Con, Martin and Benedict gave messages to all the Sherlock and Comic-Con fans. Plus, Ben decided to be evil oh my god...

I love the way they use the same basic story or mystery as the books but switch up the criminals so even if you have read the books you don't have the series spoiled.what short stories do you want them to adapt?
(I want the speckled band)
Well at this year's Comic-Con, Mark Gatiss named Dr. Roylott from The Speckled Band as his favorite antagonist, and Moffat said this was one of his favorite Sherlock Holmes stories, which gives the story a chance for a potential episode adaptation in series 3, so that's exciting. I like that story too. :D It was also hinted at during the Con that The Empty House is a good starting point and will most likely be episode 3.1.
A Study in Scarlet, my absolute favorite, has already been adapted, and marvelously might I say, so now I'm just excited for whatever other adaptations they have planned. They always turn out awesome.

Don't spoil it for us poor Americans! ..Though it's tempting to beg the Brits on here for all the details. Only eighteen more days...Oh, hello! Mind if I jump in? I'm a die-hard Sherlock fan too--shocking I know, what I am doing here? I read all 1,096 pages of the original stories in precisely one month and two days a few years back and as of this week watched through all the Sherlock episodes for a second time. Ive seen thirty episodes of the Basil Rathbone adaptation and was pleased with the Sherlock Holmes portrayal itself but having Watson as a blundering buffoon of a side-kick ruined it for me. The Watson/Holmes dynamic is the heart of the series, cut it out, and all you have is a fun thriller with a more-than-usual interesting lead detective. I've also seen the first season of the Jeremy Brett adaptation and enjoyed it immensely. I loved how they stuck tenaciously to the original stories, often word for word. But after a point it hurt them. As much as I loved the original stories, because of the haphazard way Sir Arthur Conan-Doyle wrote them, there was much unrealized potential and the Jeremy Brett series failed to improve upon it. BBC Sherlock is not a word-for-word adaption but it captures the heart and the unrealized potential, taking the classic story to new heights (and depths) and that's reason number 1,999 why I love the show and am not-so patiently waiting for the next season.
I'm torn on the issue of John's marriage, it makes sense that it happens, it needs to happen, and there's a lot of potential there. Come on, an episode of Sherlock babysitting John's kids, anyone? But then there's the unavoidable fact that John Watson is no longer at 221b Baker Street. It would almost be better if Sherlock stayed dead. I said almost. But from what I've read about the upcoming episode, this is part of the pain that Sherlock and John have to work through after their reunion. It reminds me of the last SH short story (chronologically), "His Last Bow", where Holmes and Watson come together for one final case after a separation of many years. At the end, described in the distanced third person, they shake hands and depart, suspecting that they have met for the last time. That story just about killed me. That's not how I wanted the series, their friendship, their life-stories, to end.
"The Empty hearse" has a similar feel for me--the kind of change that punches you in the gut but with BBC: Sherlock there is promising resolution unlike in the original stories. Some things will change, there's no getting around that, but some things won't.
Oh, and I am most eager to see more of Miss Molly Hooper and hear what she and Sherlock have been doing all this time!
You may call me "the long-winded one".
Oh, I loved Empty Hearse. And I loved how they portrayed Mary and the warmth between her and Sherlock, no rivalry or bitterness there (I did like their tension in the Guy Ritchie movies but I'm glad that they went down a different route in Sherlock). I also loved that Sherlock... mellowed a bit over the two years.Yes, some things changed but some didn't - like the fact that Sherlock loves John and John loves Sherlock.

I agree, Mary was fantastic. I'm so happy with her portrayal. Amanda Abbington was a very good choice for Mary.
Ah, the beloved Johnlock. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

You are officially the COOLEST Sherlock fan that I've ever not met

Nah. I wouldn't worry about that. I was one of the first members of the group, and then I left from gr for a long time. When I came back, it was easy to tap-dance back in.
Katerina wrote: "I know this is a stupid question but when is the 3rd season coming out?"
In america? It probably won't be out for a while. But the Brits have it. I just don't get it, we get doctor who at the same time as them, why can't we get sherlock as well?
Hey Katerina, so glad you joined us! #awesomefriendsinreallifeThe Empty Hearse premiers in the U.S. on PBS at 10:00pm on January 19th. I will be taking advantage of my grandparents' cable. :) The next two episodes, "The Sign of the Three" and "The Last Vow" should follow up a week apart. You can actually stream the first episode for free right now on Couchtuner.eu but as tempting as that is, I'm waiting for the 19th so I can watch at least one episode live on tv. :)
According to my *cough* Amazon pre-order status, Season Three is due February 11th. :D

Thank you, now I can see Sherlock
Why Khalif? Irene served her purpose. I'm having a hard time picturing a good reason for a comeback.
She keeps him stable. She keeps him sane. That's recurring in numerous works of literature. Merlin had Vivien, The Doctor had River, and in A Beautiful Mind, Nash had his wife. Sherlock needs Irene for this reason, especially since Watson shall soon leave. Plus, Irene has made a comeback in a number of pastiches. Irene needs to comeback because, essentially, Sherlock's story is wrong without her
Katerina wrote: "I edited it anyway. I hate when people misspell my name and I just did that to someone else. I couldn't leave it sitting there!!!"Like I said no need to worry.
You know who else they should feature on the show? The Irregulars. I really liked them, and thought that it was strange that they didn't include them.
I agree with you Khalif, in assessing Sherlock's need for a "stabilizing force" particularly in the--not absence--the distancing of John in the next season but I think Molly Hooper would fill the job better. Not only is she a stabilizing force she's a good, down-to-earth girl. Irene may stabilize Sherlock in some ways but she's got some--uh, other issues going on. Molly, like John, is loyal.
