Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.

When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans, is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.

Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves - Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.

What did you think? I haven't read The Host yet but was just wondering what your thoughts on the book were. I have heard a mixture of positives and negatives, one being the length of the book. Is it worth reading?

I really liked this book. It is quite long, but I think if you get into it the length doesn't really matter. It has been a while since I read it, but I don't remember the plot becoming so slow at any point that I wanted to put it down. It's the old love-triangle, but with a twist. I prefer it to the Twilight series anyway. It is an interesting book on a sci-fi level as well.

Okay, I will definitely give it a try. :)

Gigi S. (triv_s) | 8 comments It's pretty good and in my opinion way better then Twilight (and I, just secretly, enjoyed Twilight). It is meant to be an 'adult' book but Steph Meyer doesn't know an adult book if it hit her in the head. At points it's slow but the premise is good enough to keep it all going. Now that I know there will be a sequel or two I think I'll dig my copy out and re-read it :-)

Gigi S. (triv_s) | 8 comments Oh haha but I should add that the MC of this one is basically Bella Swan. All of Meyer's characters are author proxys. We all know that Bella Swan is based on Steph Meyer, just look at this: http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/6206...

But the main character of The Host is called Melanie Stryder ... wow Stephenie Meyer I just can't see where you came up with that name ha.

I really want to read this! The only thing that is stopping me is the length of the book and I have heard that it is slow to begin with. Ha that is so funny and so true! I want to read it before it comes out next year into a movie, I wasn't a huge fan of Twilight so hopefully this one won't disappoint!
