My name is Jesse Cozean, and I'm new to GoodReads and happy to find a group who enjoys the stories of individuals in World War II as much as I do. I've read quite a few in research for my own book, and am looking forward to seeing your comments and recommendations for others!
My Grandfather's War: A Young Man's Lessons from the Greatest Generation is the story of my grandfather's capture at the Battle of the Bulge, imprisonment in a Nazi POW camp, and liberation by the tanks of General Patton. After he returned from the war, he didn't mention his service for nearly 50 years, finally opening up to his grandson after coming to live with him after open-heart surgery. Reviews have called this book a "cross between Flags of Our Fathers" and "Tuesdays with Morrie." If anyone is interested in this kind of story, I hope you'll take a look - I'd love to discuss it, or other books like it!
Did you ever read "The Seventh Secret" by Irving Wallace? One of my guilty pleasures.
"Hitler's last Soldier" by Georg Gaertner was a great autobiography about a German soldier who was a POW in 1945 at the US West coast and then escaped and lived as an American until 1985.
