I've never actually thought of that. That's actually true. Whenever I watch a movie of a book I've already read, I'm on guard and trying to find all the parts they missed, misconstrued, and had on point. It would probably be best to (if you love movies and really wanna see it for it's interesting story line..) see the movie first in that case. Totally changed my outlook.

However, if you see the movie first it takes away your opportunity to come up with your own first impressions; your own interpretation of the book is replaced with a directors. An author usually leaves things open for the reader to use their own imagination whereas a director gives you theirs.

Sierra Thank you for all of your opinions. (:

McKent Peligrino not a thing! :D

Julia Read the book. It's always better than the film:D

Sierra I don't know what to do! Ah.

McKent Peligrino ahhaahah.. i hope there will be a second book on this. *sigh

Danielle Read this for the second time before its showing here in the Philippines. :)

Kari definitely read the book first its worth it! its one of my favourite books :-)

Leann Definitely read the book first.

rocksann Either way. Books are normally so much better & when I read the book 1st & watch the movie soon after I tend to be disappointed with the movie but if it's been a while since I read the book it's fine. Plus I try to go in with low expectations for the movie that way & it's more likely I end up enjoying the film.

Chelsey You should totes read the book. I read it in high school and I loved it! I am not sure I am going to watch the movie, because it can easily be awful if they try to make the movie too much of an independent film. I recommend the book always.

Mikaela Read the book first. Because the book has all the details and the movie doesn't. Besides, books are better than the movie most of the time.

Ria Ali i guess id rather suggest seeing the movie first. even though i am a read-the-book-first person, something tells me that 99% of people wouldnt agree with the book. its sort of....dematerialising the main character.
and by the way Emma Watson is potraying Sam, i will only tell you thats fantastic!!!

Kristina I usually like to read the book first, but this book/movie adaptation is unique to the others out there because the author of the book also wrote and directed the movie. So both movie and book are fantastic. Yes some of the stories are taken out of the movie but that is a sacrifice that Stephen Chbosky had to make.

My opinion is everyone should read the book first and then see the movie and the movie/book combo can help tie everything together.

p.s. I have actually seen the movie and it is pretty fantastically done.

Danni Read!!!!!!

I had the book waiting to be read and when I heard of the movie being made, I read it and finished it within a day. I prefer to read the book first and then watch the movie, you know the movie isn't going to be the same as the book in parts so I'd rather spot the differences in the movie than distract myself by spotting the differences while reading the book.

Kimpie Book. Always. First.

message 73: by Quia (new) - rated it 4 stars

Quia Read the book first. Don't let the movie spoil the book!

Marina I would say read the book first. Its such an easy read! And you will love it!

There's such a big waiting list for the book at my library, so by the time i actually get my hands on the book, the movie might already be out.

Dylan I am currently reading the kindle sample but I may stop there. After all the film is written and directed by its author, so I expect him to treat his own story with more love and respect than most book adaptions get :D.

Caitlain I would recommend you read the book first, as there is a lot more background to the story than is shown within the film. The downside to Hollywood I guess.

Raechella I have yet to see the movie. So book first :)

sandra read the book first, then watch the movie and criticise it because as the cliche saying goes, the movies will never be better than the books, and then watch it the second time like you don't know what the story is about then fangirl over Logan Lerman/Emma Watson/Nina Dobrev and the great bits of the movie hehe :D

Meera Hi, I'm Stephen Chbosky's assistant, Meera. He really appreciates and is truly honored to have you read and discuss his book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower. The movie version of Perks, which was also written by him, is being released nationwide in the US today, October 12th! Thank you so much for all the support, it really means a lot to Steve. We hope you love the movie as much as we do!

Courtney I alway read the book first if I can

Saraaa Read the book first. :)

message 83: by Maan (new) - rated it 4 stars

Maan Penaflor Just read the book and forget the movie. It's way better so it doesn't make a difference. It will save your time.

message 84: by Jeff (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jeff great question.. was wondering the same thing.. leaning toward the book first anyway because of my love for books to movies but now its not question
