I just wanted to give you a "shout out"! I am currently reading Grament of Shadows now, and am an ardent reader of your books and wanted to express my appreciation for your work. I have read and re-read all your books and they stand up to many re-readings. I will be submitting my PhD in "the academic study of religion" towards the end of October, and I wanted to ask you the following: to my knowledge you are the only best selling author with a degree in Religion. When you graduated with your own BA in religious studies, did you intend upon writing novels? Or were you hoping to do something else with it?

An appreciative admirer of your work, Meredith

Oh heavens, writing novels was the last thing I anticipated when I did either the BA or the later MA in Old Testament. It was contemplating the trials of a PhD that turned me to fiction, definitively as it turned out.
