I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy the books. Personally, i thoroughly enjoyed them, but I kind of understand your perspective regarding slow and clunky pace. When I recommend this book (or Dostoevsky or any authors that were originally published in Indo-European or Germanic languages), I always tell people to keep in mind that this was originally in Swedish which is kind of a "clunky" language and the translation is going to be the same when it comes to how it reads. It's different and not your thing, which is totally cool, but I'm not offended. Not sure why anyone would be offended by you having a different opinion - those people are cretins.

The first 30 pages or so were very hard to get through. After that, I liked it, but didn't love it. I think what I liked most was the setting. I also liked the idea that the kidnapper had to be the one she was looking at in the picture. Pretty neat premise.
I am a big fan of the trilogy. I don't recall the opening chapters being slow, but if they were, I doubt I'd mind. Sometime the stage has to be set.
Marcia wrote: "I loved everything about the whole trilogy. The author who passed before they became block busted hits. The two after we're okay...6 month book hang over ...I loved this series."Agreed.
Hated it. It's not often that I don't finish a book but at around 35% I'd had enough and deleted this one from my Kindle. If it hasn't grabbed me by then, it never will.
I am glad to see that I am not the only one who didn't like the books (I've read the first two of them, and as I don't let unfinished, I'll go for the third too). It's too many unnecessary details, the whole sexual thing it's a bit too much... I liked Lisbeth's character. But!!! The second book begins with an unbelievable Lisbeth, for whom the new tits are so amazing she can't help herself not admiring in the mirror every five seconds, almost raping a 16 years boy, having small talks.... Oh my gosh!!! Is that the same Lisbeth?
I'll be honest though I was impressed by its ability to tell a story (I don't want to spoil here) and its mystery feel that it was also set in a nice fictionalized part of the world.I thought the violence was so bad to the point it was ridiculous. I know the original title was "Men who Hate Women" but I mean, the victims were raped, murdered, chopped up and burned if my memory is correct? I mean, come on! Overkill much?
Yes.. I didn't like this book. I read it once while on holiday on Vancouver Island and left it there..for someone else to give it a try. Very overrated..the Millennium Trilogy

And it also took me forever to get through this book because the beginning was sooooo slow and technical. I stuck with it though! It's a proud moment for me. :-)

Ray is cancelled for that comment.
I tried my damndest to finish this book but with 24 pages remaining I just couldn't help it. So I threw it with the other 2 books in trilogy in the garbage where they belong a few minutes ago. The guy should not have been allowed to write a novel. He could write a screenplay or a comic book maybe but he simply does not have enough linguistic skills to write a novel. The story itself is very boring and predictable. The guy you would suspect most to be the killer turned out to be the killer and he didn't even have much of a motive for it. The case has very little complexity and they solve the crime by looking at pictures and hacking computers. Yeah, its very exciting to read about people sitting in front of computer all day. There isn't one single character that you could get attached too. It uses rape and incest to hide the fact that there isn't much of a story here. The whole book is just finding background information in computers and those information aren't in any way interesting or entertaining. And the whole thing is written in the most banal way possible without any sense of poetry, humor or metaphor or any kind of clever use of language or plot device. It is supposed to be a mystery novel but it never engages you in the mystery. It does not have very likable characters to still make a crap story worth reading either. The filmmakers of both Swedish and American movies deserve respect for making decent movies from such listless story.
This trilogy was the best books I have read in a long time. I am so sorry he died I had really become a fan.
Nergis Balta wrote: "I read all the reviews, but a bit strange.this book has everything.I'm looking in the book.Maybe,We have expectation of difficult."I read the book, struggled with names but thought it was an okay book. Didn't read the other books just because at the time I switched over to the Harry Potter books.
I hate the book. Everytime i read it i feel like minutes of my life have been wasted and I should be compensated for it. Its called the girl with the dragon tattoo, but she has absolutely nothing to do with the entire book at least till page 310 which is till where i have read. After reading this thread i realised that i am not the only one who is having a tough time with this so im glad to say that i can now give up. This book has ruined reading for me. It will take me a month to get my love of reading back and to start a new book. at this point in the book, i dont care about the end or the revelation. i dont give two shits about who killed harriett. i just want all of them to die. people are saying stieg larrson never got fame. maybe that true for a reason. and the reason is that he doesnt write he bores. i would honestly advise anyone not to pick this book up. im never going to watch the movie either. its nothing new. the plot is the same old one mystery writers have been using since ages. murder in the family. and PS. the title of the book should be the journalist with no tattoo. Lisbeth Salander is of no consequence to the book whatsoever.
