Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 247 comments I felt like Phury's book didn't tell his story. There was too much other stuff going on. Phury's story could have been great...the surviving son who felt guilty cause he thought his brother had been lost, then finding him. Stepping into the role of leader of the Chosen when Vishous couldn't or wouldn't. I just feel like he got jipped.

I have to admit that I have LOVED that there has been no Lesser Society action in the last couple of books. Since Lash died, we haven't seen anything from within their society. I wonder if JR Ward is going to bring them back somehow or continue on with us ignoring them?

I think once I have wittled down my Massive TBR I'm going to go back and re-read the series from the beginning and I'll try to power my way through Phury's book :)

Amy (redheadmommy06) | 67 comments What I love about the series is even if you aren't into whatever character's story the current book is about, you can always rely on the side story to be awesome, You get to experience the other characters and the long ongoing plot of their lives as a whole.

Amy (redheadmommy06) | 67 comments Oh and about the lessening society...In the begining of the series she describes the smell as sweet and like baby powder. Well after Butch started doing his "thing" and they found the way to actually destroy them rather then send them back to the Omega, the way she describes the smell has changed to a rotting and baby powder smell. So I think the society is changing because of the Omega losing power and strength and that's why we haven't seen much of them lately. Either they will keep getting weaker until destroyed, or they are biding their time until Mr. Omega can come up with a new plan. Just my thoughts :)

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Windfall (Weather Warden, #4) by Rachel Caine

Rating: ★★★★
Shelf: Favourite Author
Date Finished: 27/9/12

Joanne Baldwin is a kickass weather warden, but having recently quit the wardens she has to work for a living. None other than a weather girl dressed in ridiculous costumes.

I love the Weather Warden series, it's one of my favourites. But I didn't like how Jo constantly had things thrown at her in this book, especially to do with her Djinn lover. She's almost powerless here because of her reluctance to let go, and constantly needs to be saved. Somehow, you just want your kickass Jo back with her super awesome powers of weather manipulation, but apparently she's not allowed to use them because of circumstances in the last book.

I just want Jo to have a break and to enjoy some one-on-one time with David. Unfortunately, with her perfect sister showing up unannounced, and the becomings of a war between the Djinn, she never catches a break.

I still love the weather warden series, but this one just didn't have the same sexy weather descriptions and snarky one-liners because Joanne just didn't have it in her (and understandably). I can't wait to pick up the next one though, what a crazy ending!

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments Good on ya Jessica for catching up! It does get a bit out of control having heaps of series on the go, I like to read them back to back though but have paced myself with buddy reads and stuff.

I've got the first 6 Black Dagger Brotherhood books on my bookshelf, still in its pristine packaging! I've heard so many good things about it that I can't wait to read it either.

The Morganville Vampire series is one of my favorite, and one i have been reading for a few years. You get everything you want in this series, a great bunch of charcters, vampires, action and a romance that doesn't have a love traiangle.

InLast Breath the gang meets a new threat to morganville with the Druag. They are a water eneny that love to feed on the vampires. Finally something to take them down a peg or two. We also have Micheal and Eve talking about getting married, without giving too much away. The action continues, Claire and Shane continue to be one of my favorite couples, who will marry and live happily everafter.(if i have anything to say about it) Last Breath (The Morganville Vampires, #11) by Rachel Caine

Amy (redheadmommy06) | 67 comments Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward
Shelf: favorite Author
Date Finished: 9/28/12
Rating: Five Stars

I love this series so very much. Action, suspense, love, steamy scenes and lots of huge super manly vampires. Dark Lover is book one in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The Black Dagger Brotherhood is a group of warrior vampires in charge of protecting the vampire race from their enemies, Vampire hunters with no souls called "Lessers".
The Brotherhood is the sexiest group ever. All the warriors are described in detail as being very tall, very built and very handsome. They are full of honor and tons of testosterone. My favorite thing about these vampires is their traditions and rituals. I also have read many vampire books and these vampire's "rules" (no sunlight, can still eat and drink, only need blood from a female vampire) are my favs.
Dark Lover is Wrath and Beth's love story and the chemistry they have is amazing, it doesn't hurt that they are both stunningly described, both gorges/sexy of course. But we get great introduction to the other "Brothers" and all their individual personalities and inner demons. These guys are all so darn attractive. I recommend it for anyone who wants a good sexy read with a fast paced action plot.

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments The Last Echo (The Body Finder, #3) by Kimberly Derting

Rating: ★★★
Shelf:
Free space
Date Finished: 30/9/12

I don't usually read series out of order but I had to read the first in the Body Finder series for a review. I found the book to be strangely compelling in a way, it's about a sick serial killer that collects girlfriends by kidnapping them and keeping them in a dark room.

There's interchanging scenes from the serial killer's perspective which I found really disturbing and creepy. I'm past the age of this book's ideal target market (probably 16-17s) but still found it chilling.

That being said, it's target at the 16-17 age group lends a bulk of the book to a typical love triangle and plenty of insecurities and drama behind holding a strange power that leads Violet to dead bodies. The murder mystery is kind of secondary to all of the teen drama, which would probably suit the age group but I found frustrating.

Overall, the series follows a lot of YA conventions and the power Violet holds is just a small creepy twist. I probably won't continue with the series, but it was good to have a shot at it.

Born at Midnight (Shadow Falls, #1) by C.C. Hunter

Shelf for Sept 30:Urban Fantasy
Book Chosen:Born at Midnight ~ C.C. Hunter
Date Read:October 2,2012
Rating:♥♥♥♥
Review:Born at Midnight was a laugh out loud funny read with a mysterious twist that kept me turning the pages into the wee hours of the night.
The Story centers around a 16 year old girl named Kylie who finds out she's more then just human and while dealing with the dramas of her own life, her parents divorce, getting arrested and then being shipped off to summer camp for trouble teens she starts out on an adventure that will change her life forever, plus throw a few hot guys into the mix and you have a fun and exciting read.

I enjoyed the charcters a lot in this book some were just so funny while others you longed to smack up side the head. The end was the usuall chiffhanger ended that most young adult have so I don't feel the need to rush right into the next book but I will only because I can't wait to find out what happens next. All in all a fun fast read.

Susan (susayq ~) (susayq) | 247 comments Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs

Shelf: Urban Fantasy
Rating: 3 1/2 stars
Date Finished:10/3/12

This was a 3.5 star read for me solely because I was bored to tears the first half of the book. Thankfully I stuck it out cause I really did end up liking it.

Mercy is a great character. She's strong and has a good head on her shoulders. I really like Samuel. He's got a little bit of snark to him. But I don't think he has anything on Adam. I'm not usually a fan of love triangles, but I think this one will work for me; as long as it doesn't take forever for Mercy to make a decision. At the end where she says that she told Samuel she wasn't making any decision about him or Adam till she knew where her head and heart were sold me on it.

I'm sure I can find a way to work the next one in the series into my reading some time soon ;)

Jeann (Happy Indulgence) (happyindulgence) | 1151 comments What Kills Me

What Kills Me by Wynne Channing
Shelf: Urban Fantasy
Rating: ★★★★
Date Finished: 4/10/12

I really enjoyed What Kills Me, it's just so refreshing and fun to read! With the vampire genre being overdone so many times, the author still managed to breathe some life into the book to make it unique.

Axelia is just a normal girl living abroad when she bumps into a handsome man named Paolo. Looking for a bit of adventure, she decides to meet him for a late night date and unexpectedly gets turned into a vampire. But not just any vampire, it turns out she's the destined one in a prophecy that will mean the death of the vampire race.

What I really liked about this book, was the hilarious, spunky and charming heroine. She's a girl I'd like to be good friends with just from the funny things she says, especially in the midst of a serious situation. She's obviously thrust into a situation that is crazy and she just makes the best of it, while discovering her super strength in the mean time.

Lucas on the other hand, is not your typical prince charming. He pushes and prods the heroine with incessant teasing and snobbery, until she picks up that he might have feelings for her. I didn't much enjoy the typical romance that occurs afterwards but I suppose a bit of love creates meaning for them.

The book wraps the vampire mythology nicely with Vee's discovery of it. Unlike a lot of other urban fantasy books, there isn't a lot of info dumping to jar the story. It's quite fast-paced and hard to put down. I hope there's going to be a sequel!

This is a fun, enjoyable and action-packed read that I would recommend to others. I received a review copy of the book from the author in exchange for an honest review, thanks for this opportunity!

This review has also been posted on my Happy Indulgence Blog. Check it out for more reviews!

Grave Memory (Alex Craft, #3) by Kalayna Price

This is the third book in the series and Alex is a great character. I have been waiting for Alex to have some sort of relationship with either Falin or Death but this seems to be one of those series where it will all drag on. The Fae in this book are the Fae i enjoy, nice ,mean, sneaky selfish and always gorgeous. In this book Alex opens her own detective agency with her best friend Rihanna, and then all hell breaks loose. This book was action packed and a little frustrating but can't wait for the next.

Zee becomes a vampire by falling into the Ancients well and now she is the phrophecy that will end all vampires. While fighting to survive becoming a vampire Zee, meets Lucas who becomes her swordsman, friend and protector.
Zee brings you on a journey that is filled with everything you can want in a vampire book. The charcters are awesome and keep the pages turning. I can't wait to read the next book. A Great read.

Rating:5♥♥♥♥♥
Review:Kylie is back and she is finaly getting some answers to her questions about who and what is is in the supernatural world that is centered around a camp for teenagers that are just a little bit more then human.

This is by far the best book of the series that i've read so far and I have finally gotten some answers to some of the nagging questions that have been carried along form the first 2 books. The characters are becoming more complex and some of the scenes are just laugh out loud funny, while others are intense and even managed to make me cry a couple of times.

I can hardly wait to jump into book 4 and I will sorely miss this series when the 5th and final book is published next spring but until then I will continue on with Kylie's adventures and continue to love this series.

I haven't started my book yet, and it's a massive one too. I may end up changing my vampire read, not sure yet. I haven't had much time to read lately and trying to finish one for review.
