Demons Read:

Date Finished: October 22nd
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review:
I feel like I've been run over 10 times with a Mack truck (too much drinky-drinky last night) so my review is gonna be all over the place.
Angelfall follows Penryn, a 17-year-old girl living in a post-apocalyptic world where the Angels have taken over. In the beginning of A, Pen, her paranoid schizophrenic mother and her disabled 7-year-old sister, Paige (who's in a wheelchair) are venturing out into the open to find a better place to hide out when PAIGE IS TAKEN BY TEH ANGELS! So Pen's all on her owney determined to go on this suicide mission to get her sister back. But she finds help in an unlikely ally: Raphael, an Angel who appears to have A LOT of enemies. So they're running around looking for Pen's sister and run across things like cannibals, soldiers, gangs, scorpion-human monstrosities, et cetera.
I liked Angellfall. I didn't love it as so many of my GR friends (because really, maybe TWO friends in RL read) did but I liked it just fine. There's a lot of action, gore, guts and creepy WTFery. A lot is NOT explained. Pen is KICKASS and can KICK ASS (oh man, that scene with her fighting that one guy? AMAZING!) The ending? I didn't see it coming at all even though Ee left little breadcrumbs leading me to that conclusion. A ends on a cliffhanger. It didn't bother me much, I guess because I wasn't super in love with it. I'm already forgetting bits and pieces. But things should get real interesting in A#2 what with (view spoiler) The end of A blew the end of Mockingjay out of the water, Prim-wise. Wow! Ok,this book so didn't go how I expected at all. Gena really surprised me with how the story went and I wasn't disappointed in the slightest.

Book Urban Shaman
Review

I feel horrible but I hated my favorite series shelf book. I am sorry if I offend everyone, maybe it was the narration, but I was bored. I am aware that this book pre-dates Mercy Thompson but the superficial similarities bothered me - mechanic, liberal arts useless (according to heroine) college degree, native american background, NW geographic location ...
The story dragged. The heroine evolved way too quickly. I didn't care. The side kicks were interesting and fun. But again, I didn't care. I won't be reading on in the series. Sorry if I offended anyone.

I just had a look & 4 of my friends gave it 1 or 2 stars. Predictably the rest gave it 4 or 5 stars.

Of the 7 who gave 4 or 5 stars, they were all 2011/2012 except one was 2010.
There were a couple of 3s usually 2010/2011 I think.

That 2 stars would be 1 now, based on my review and what I remember. Rating deflation.

Ember's Kiss is the 8th Dragonfire novel revolving around the Pyr, dragon shapeshifters. There is an overall story arc so I highly recommend reading them in order.
In Ember's Kiss we join Brandon, Brandon has bad history with the Pyr - they are the good guys but after his Dad abandoned him and his Mum - Brandon wants nothing to do with them. Unfortunately ths means that Brandon doesn't know much about being a dragon, all he really wants is to lose the ability to shapeshift. Chen is the head of the Slayers, who are enemies of the Pyr, has taken an interest in Brandon. He is determined to harness his power for his own and has deceived Brandon to accomplish this.
Things start to change when Brandon experiences his Firestorm - the meeting of his destined mate that only ends with conception of a child. Liz has powers of her own, can Brandon trust her enough to let her help him?

LOL! Include me in the why-I-haven't-read-it-list. ;)
I've finished my 'fave series' book; review to follow shortly.
Hope everyone had a Happy Halloween!

Biting Cold by Chloe Neill
Series: Chicagoland Vampires #6
Shelf: Favorite-Series
Read: 2 Nov 2012
Rating: 3.5/5 ★
Review:
Biting Cold reunites us with Merit who's dealing with her reincarnated beau and her whacked-out on black magic (former?) bestie. Seems all that I loved when I first met Merit now bugs me. Initially, I liked Ethan, maybe even considered him as a potential book-beau for a bit, but damn he's one infuriating, bull-headed, vamp! He's four-hundred years old for cripes sake ... with age comes wisdom and all that, right? Merit's loss when he died for her could've broken her, but did it? No. Girl put on her big girl panties, grabbed her katana, kicked some ass, saved some lives and bettered herself. Now, Sir Ethan is back and she's too fragile? P-lease, Dude, get over yourself.
Other randomness ...
☪ For a dead chick, Merit sure does eat a lot
☪ I miss the old Mallory/Merit banter, no doubt Merit does too
☪ Speaking of Mallory, did she fall into (Kane's) Downside b/c she'd fit right in on Addict Lane ... that's if they didn't eat her alive in the first 10 minutes
☪ Um, maybe the Librarian could help?
☪ Can we have more of Gabriel, please?! LOVE his tough-lovin' generous spirit.
Overall ~ Didn't love it or hate it, but didn't mind putting it down either. Never a good sign. Hoping House Rules rocks my world.

That is one series I've always wanted to read, but my library doesn't carry so I have been debating on whether to buy them or not. Based on your review, I'm thinking they are worth the money.
