Generally I like mine with just a touch of unsweetened almond milk, but where SBX is concerned, I need some sort of sweetener; I don't care for their straight coffee much, not even with milk.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 176 comments I can't stand sweet coffee...just a little regular milk for me, not strong...hate Starbucks (sorry!). Love coffee with a SWEET, but don't normally have it with a goody.

message 54: by Jax (new)

Jax @ Kristen - Hmmm -That's actually quite interesting... :)

I actually have no idea exactly how much caffeine I drink in a day (its lots, and that's all I know.. lol)

Though honestly I have no idea how you function on 3-4 hours of sleep!!! Caffeine or Not!
Anything less than at least 6 hours, and I'm not sure they wouldn't declare me medically brain dead!
I've had nights when I couldn't sleep, then had to get up in the morning, and I felt like my head was stuffed full of cotton wool! :D

Though I should warn you - it is possibly that later on in your pregnancy, Baby might demand you sleep more... ;D

message 55: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) I feel a serious sugar and caffeine rush and collapse coming on, just consuming this much stuff vicariously through you all!!! LOL

Hey Kristen - sorry about the insomnia. Have you tried accupunture? I have a brilliant doctor here I go to.

And Jax - yup. Our kids' survival sometimes depends on things that no doctor would approve, but hey, we're all still living and breathing, so it can't be that bad.

I don't want to know my caffeine intake then I'd have to start watching. In this one situation ignorance is bliss... Although when it gets really cold outside I take a packet of cocoa & mix it with coffee add a little sugar & milk or creamer and it's like the best of both worlds...

I don't like SBUX (too bitter for me no matter how much sugar I add to the coffee) and I don't mind eating a cookie or crisp (an English biscuit) with a cup of coffee, the way they serve it in Europe and the Middle East, but I still need to have a sweetener in my coffee to really enjoy it. I can do whipped cream but still need milk or creamer b/c the whipped cream is more fat than it is milk product. I need the milk product to cut the acid in the coffee.

Since my 20s, I've completely and deliberately cut myself back and off the half and half, to whole milk and then to 2% milk (what I use in my coffee now) and the only flavored/high-cal product I get is the occasional iced mocha cappuccino (SBUX in the bottle) but nowadays, due to $$$ it's rare, not occasional. In fact, the last one I had was in June when I moved apartments.

LOL

message 61: by Jax (new)

Jax LOL -Well seeing as not even my doc has any clue as to what is up with my twisted system, I happily continue just as I am - after all his suggestions failed...
(which included exercising more (UGH!), less caffeine, etc)
The exercise didn't help me sleep - but did make it feel like my body was going to spontaneously combust from the inside out...
and the caffeine apparently helps me sleep - I slept even less in the month I tried giving it up.. LOL

I can't remember which comedian said it - but I agree! I don't want to get to the end of my life and have ppl at my funeral looking at me and saying how great I look - they need to seeee how I lived... LOL
So, coffee, nicotine and Loads of junk food are my friends!! ;D

Junying | 27 comments Coffee with milk, no sugar, twice a day, essential to keep me going.

Vered - hope you're feeling better - how did you manage to pass the germs to me via the net? I have a swollen throat and have trouble swallowing food and water - have to go to see my GP shortly. Oh how I hate being sick, especially now, with my new book coming to the end of the edits.

Poor Vered, sugar-intolerant are you? :)

message 64: by Monica Porta (new)

Monica Porta | 196 comments 'nespresso,' three times a day, with or without a small amount sugar, sometimes with almond milk. Miss my cappuccino and cornetto greatly.

Marjorie Friday Baldwin (marjoriefbaldwin) | 62 comments What's a cornetto, Monica?

Kristen Taber | 78 comments Vered wrote: Hey Kristen - sorry about the insomnia. Have you tried accupuntur..."

Thanks; I actually love acupuncture, but in this case it isn't needed since it's actually not insomnia. It's by choice. It's the only way I can write with everything else (family, demanding job, working out, etc.). I know some authors can somehow find ways to do it without cutting sleep, but I've never been able to figure that out :). Hence, I kept the energy drink industry in business pre-pregnancy and probably will again.

Monica Porta | 196 comments Glad you asked, Marjorie ;) Cornetto is the Italian word for croissant.

VERY much so! I get a diabetic-type reaction!!!

Tea on the other hand is a vital component of my blood stream.

Sorry you caught it. A tourist must have breathed in my air and exhaled it back in England!

Yes, blame the tourist :) anyway, the bed rest means I get to catch up with some reading. Long overdue!

message 72: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Oh yeah! That was my favourite part about being sick - I had the ultimate excuse to lie around for a few days doing pretty much nothing but read and doze off and read some more!!!

Oh yes, she's my first. I know I'm in for a serious balancing act come December. I should be able to get book 2 of my fantasy series out before then and the first draft of book 3 is done so I should be able to launch that OK in a year. I also have my first romance novel almost complete and can launch that in the spring. Maybe by the end of next year I'll have the schedule down well enough to write again. Fingers crossed anyway!

message 74: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Wow! Talk about a lot on your plate. And you're working?!! Do yourself a favour and relax your expectations. Actually, just give them up for the next year or so, and enjoy babyhood!

message 75: by Kristen (last edited Sep 22, 2012 06:53AM) (new)

Kristen Taber | 78 comments I'm really looking forward to that part, hence the slower schedule. But she takes priority, of course, so even if that's too much, I'll definitely take something off my plate. :)

message 76: by Vered (new)

Vered (vered_ehsani) Glad to hear!
