Does Matty die in the end? And how do you feel about it?

That was slightly freaky. The word "keening" just has a really creepy connotation to me.

Phoebe Matty dies---it was heartbreaking. But I thought it was a beautiful ending. I loved that it was like Matty healed the forest, instead of healing an individual. In each book so far (the giver, gathering blue, and messenger) the main character has somehow saved there community--whether by leaving, staying, or in Matty's case laying down his life.
