Karena (karenafagan) I'm probably not the only one that has a few books going at time, what else are you reading this month? I have The Fifth Witness by Michael Connelly that I need to start. I just finished The Crimson Petal and the White by Michael Faber which admittedly I ended up skimming because it was 800 pages and the last 400 were boring.

Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments I am so bad right now. I have 4 books going on at once (not including school texts or baby books!) I am dragging myself through Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson on audio but I have vowed to finish it! I'm also still slugging away at Perks of Being a Wallflower, (yeah, that was our bookclub book from June...) and I only have ten pages left of the Portal by Christopher Allen Poe, but haven't found time to finish it! oh yes, and Vol. 2 in the Locke and Key graphic novel series. Thank god I have already read Madam Bovary! (when will they invent a way where we don't have to sleep?)

Stephen King's The Dark Tower series... it will be started (but not conquered) in September... if I can put down Batman comics.

So many good Batman comics though! You should read the Locke and Key because 1.) it's done, it's not ongoing and ongoing and ongoing 2.) It's properly creepy and great 3.) it's written by Joe Hill who is Stephen King's son.

Locke and Key... I haven't heard of it before, but I think I might have to pick that up. Thanks, Jeane!

What did you think of Swamplandia, Sally?

message 11: by Sally (new)

Sally | 17 comments Very well written but disturbing. The charactors were well developed. Descriptions of the area is picturesque. I can very well understand why this novel is a Pulitzer finalist. Although I believe this book was well written, I did not like it because I found it disturbing.

I agree with you. It was a very strange book for sure.

Karena (karenafagan) I'm re-reading The Iron Druid Chronicles (even though I do have a bunch of new books to read), mostly because the new book comes out in November and I want the series to be fresh in my head. Also I found some bonus stories for the series at the back of a couple of the ebooks so it was totally worth it.

I also have Cleopatra: A Life, Inkheart (I usually don't read kids books, but to be fair I was goint to read this one WITH my kid, but he got bored), The Malice of Fortune by Michael Ennis and probably one more that I have checked out from the library that I need to get to. Thank goodness for renewals.

I thought Inkheart was really boring! How can a book about books be so boring, but it was! I don't blame Ryan one bit.

I thought the movie was ok, so I figured the book had to be better (usually this is true!). The jury's still out if I'll pick it up and read it or just turn it back in.

Ryan just didn't like it because there were no pictures. LOL. He kept asking when they were going to show up...

I wonder if Inkheart was kind of lost in translation...cause it has mad raves about it, but it was so blah! But it was translated from German so I wonder if some of the pizzazz was lost in translation...

message 17: by Angie Downs (new)

Angie Downs Earlier this month I read Legend #1 by Marie Liu and Feed by M. T. Anderson. I just finished Clash of Kings and The Knife of Never Letting Go. (Book One of Chaos Walking series). Just started Book Two, The Ask and the Answer. It's a great YA dystopian series.

message 18: by Jeane, Book-tator (new)

Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments Just finished Daughter of Smoke and Boneand for being a YA (old YA by the way, much older) this book was fantastic! I think even Karena might like it!

message 19: by Sally (new)

Sally | 17 comments I'm reading "Cemetery Dance" by Preston/Child. It's the October selection for the Beale Book Club. Jeane & Karena, can you guess who chose that title?

message 20: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) HAHA. I think the book club should just be called Books About Pendergast.

LOL! (better then you-know-who, don't know? I'll give you a hint, his name starts with L)

message 22: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) I thought his name started with J?

message 23: by Jeane, Book-tator (new)

Jeane (pinkbookdragon) | 323 comments I was going by last names, but yeah you are right, how about it's better than JL :)

message 24: by Sally (new)

Sally | 17 comments Oh, you mean Wyatt Hunt :-)

message 25: by Karena (new)

Karena (karenafagan) Ok I totally had read that wrong. Lol. I read it as the you know who as the person who suggested the book. Reading Comprehension ftw.

message 26: by Sally (new)

Sally | 17 comments Actually, I believe both fit quite well.
