Love this book! Such a clever adaptation of the old Cinderalla story. Cinder is incredibly likeable and you can't help cheering for her. Can't wait for the sequel :)
I can't wait for the sequels. It's a lovely piece of storytelling. And I'm kind of weak to cinderella type cyborgs...
This book was so amazing and different with just enough of the old details. Why can't we have the sequel now? Lol

She still has the sisters and stepmother (kind of) and the story is still Cinderella but with added details to make it different. Besides her family, being worked really hard and the prince/ball its pretty different. It's really up to you obviously, I don't know your tastes but it is worth it in my opinion.
I don't know if this helps...I'm bad at explaining lol

ahaha i know its a good book~ many people read and LOVED it and that makes me so happy, but retellings aren't really original. It's kinda like fanfiction that's been published. :)

I'm glad you do! But it's kind of a shame to shy away from a book just because it's a retelling. Especially when so many people loved it!

I agree. All I can say is, you know tons love it and that is a good sign, I don't mind retellings but it didn't come off that way until those little details popped up. I think you will like what she has changed. Like the fact that she is more of a mechanic then she is a house keeper, they live in Asia, I really don't wanna say things and ruin anything lol I think you might like it.

haha okay i'll check it out and decide the fate of all retellings on Cinder. :)

Hahaha! It's like the fate of the world rests in Cinder's hands lol. OK, maybe I'm exaggerating just a little!

not exaggerating at all! I plan to ask the author how she feels that such a whole genre of books are dependent on her book! haha
This book was amazing!! i can't wait for the sequel! I heard they are making a movie soon... Can't wait
This book was amazing. I loved the Cinderella allusions and the very steampunk-ish universe. I even almost cried when a certain character died, which never happens to me.
I really like Prince Kai, and I honestly think Cinder should have just told him form the beginning that she was a cyborg. I think she's pretty cowardly in this book. Other than that, I still really liked her personality.
Dalia721 wrote: "I really like Prince Kai, and I honestly think Cinder should have just told him form the beginning that she was a cyborg. I think she's pretty cowardly in this book. Other than that, I still really..."I agree but only to an extent. Cyborgs aren't widely accepted so it stands to reason that you would think royalty wouldn't accept cyborgs as well. I also think her not saying she was a cyborg to Kai was the books way of incorporating how she didn't tell the prince who she truly was in a lot of the tellings of Cinderella, if that makes sense.
Yeah I definitely agree it fits into the fairy tale well, but I still think objectively, it's a flaw in her character. I also just love in the end how she thinks everything would be solved if Kai says he loves her.Her reasoning skills here are definitely worthy of scrutiny.

It definitely solves nothing and does deserve scrutiny. Sad that a lot of characters in books seem to rely on that thought.
Pamela wrote: "I don't even know if I'll read this. It's a retelling, right?"Ooh you HAVE to read it. It's Cinderella, but not Cinderella. She changed it up so much. Personally, I think it would have been better if she didn't go with the Cinderella theme, and just went off on her own tangent, but whatever. At least she made it!
Kim wrote: "Ooh you HAVE to read it. It's Cinderella, but not Cinderella. She changed it up so much. Personally, I think it would ..."Exactly! That's what I wished she'd done! But what I think will be what I think when I finally read it :>
I loved this book. So excited for the release of Scarlet. I hope everyone enjoys reading it as much as I did.
If you guys can remember, I once said that my liking to the genre of retellings would be dependent on Cinder. And that I'd ask the author what she thought about that. She sort of dodged the question neatly so I think she's pretty neutral about it. Basically, she said that I should read books that I want to read because "life is too short to read books you feel obligated to read." And that if I do read Cinder, she hopes that I will enjoy it. :)
I wasn't to sure about reading this one, but after so many recommendations I''ve given in and bought myself a copy. One chapter in and it seems good so far.
I finished this one last night and I was really impressed! Meyer's prose is so controlled and fluid. Definitely wish I'd read it sooner.
Surprisingly, I loved this one. I thought it was going to be another steampunk book and I was pleasently surprised to find out it was nothing like I expected. What an awesome retelling of Cinderella! I loved the concept of Lunars, it for some reason reminded me of fairies. Oh, and despite the fact that I pretty much figured out the big reveal long before it was still riveting to see it all come to fruition. I can't wait for the sequel.
I loved this book even though done of the events that were happening towards the end were a little to obvious but I still want to desperately read the sequel (:
I loved it. It was a perfect blend of the stuff I already knew and new, cool, different stuff that excited me. At first, I was a little skeptical of the idea of turning the story of Cinderella into something weird/twisted, but I turned out to love it and add it to be one of my favorite books. A great read.
For some reason, I was thinking I had always heard really bad reviews of this book. But maybe I am thinking of the wrong one? Either way, I found it predictable at points, but overall I liked it.
I really enjoyed it - I liked the twists. Loathed her step mother, liked the nice stepsister. Figured out her identity pretty early but am interested enough to read the next one
Just read the sequel too, Meyer does an amazing job at tying in the fairy tales to the dystopian world she's created :)
SPOILER:It was good, though I knew that she was the princess as soon as they mentioned that she might be alive.
