I am finding this book quite interesting so far. What are your thoughts on this series? The Reckoning (The Taker, #2) by Alma Katsu

I read the Taker and enjoyed it. I found it a really interesting take on immortality and enjoyed the switches between time periods. I haven't read the second one yet, but will.

I especially enjoyed the concept of an undying unrequited love that cost the protagonist everything, in some ways, it's a cautionary tale on love. You can't make some one love you, no matter how much you love them. You can't change some one who doesn't want to be changed. And you can't undo the past.

As a SciFi reader and a history lover, I found the book and the characters so very engaging. It kept me guessing which is harder and harder to do these days since most authors tend to follow some sort of a pattern even if they don't mean to. I'm on the fence too about the romantic part. We'll have to see what happens in the next book. I cant' WAIT to read it!

It was an okay book for me. Sometimes there were too many details that made the story drag. There were some good twists though. I was more interested in Adair than in Jonathan. Adair was definitely a much more complicated and layered character than anyone one else. I am not going to read the second book. It did not grasp me that much.

I liked this book. I wasn't a fan of it switching back and forth in time periods randomly like it did. I agree with everyone else i am not sure about the romantic relationships. I plan on reading the next one just to see what Adair does.

I liked this book. I thought it was a well done debut Novel. One thing I hated though, and it is hard to remember, since I read it in hardcover when it first came out. She talked about a room and what the man(can't remember who, you know, the evil one. lol) did in it, forever then eventually said, "Oh, you don't want to know. Yes, I really wanted to know. lol The romance wasn't there for me either, but the book was enjoyable.

I actually really liked this book. It was dark and really didn't make excuses or try to make it's "protagonist" perfect. I'm still up in the air about the romantic relationships, but I really am looking forward to book 2. Not to mention, it made me interested in another period of time, and as someone who loves historical fiction, it did feed my need for some kind of knowledge.
