I'm a librarian trying to track down a mysterious book for a patron.
She found it at the public library about two years ago. She believes it is adult fiction.
Steampunk-y. Victorian society surrounded by clockwork tracks. No one goes outside the tracks because that's where the "winged ones", the "heathens" are. The main character is a male, he has to go outside the tracks to do something, can't get back in. First, he's terrified of the heathens, but then they befriend him. There's a sort of lesson about learning about other cultures. She said it seemed like the book was trying to convince the reader that the winged ones were angels, but it never actually says so.
The copy she read had a picture of the world with the tracks around it on the cover. Any help would be awesome!!
