What are your worst endings?

I think this book has one of the laziest and worst endings I have ever read and it got me wondering what people's most disapointing or hated endings were?

One Day. Ugh. Terrible emotional manipulation

Sukant 7 hours wasted from my dear life. Will never read a book of the author even if some one pays me to do so.

I agree this book was odd and the ending, though it tied things together, seemed rushed and a let-down.

I mirror your feelings, Fadlou, as I felt the same way after reading 'The Time Traveler's Wife'. I really looked forward to this book only to be let down.

The book ending I hated most was "Perfume" by Patrick Suskind. I didn't care for the ending of this book either.

This book was just plain weird! But I think the worst ending I've encountered was 'Only Time Will Tell' by Jeffrey Archer. I read lots of his books when I was younger and quite enjoyed them, but I think I must have been young and unworldly because this was so bad. The main character was a good guy in all sense, but not only did dear Jeffrey seem it appropriate to involved him in unintentional incest it then had him arrested for murder on the last page through mistaken identity. It was so inappropriate for the character and even though you could see what was going to happen I really couldn't believe that the author would end the book that way. It was meant to be a cliffhanger encouraging you to buy the next book but it was just so crass and quite unbelievable.

You're right - Her Fearful Symmetry had one of the most ridiculous endings ever. It was like the author's publisher reminded her that her deadline was in two days and she rushed to finish the book because she didn't have time to do it properly. It seriously pissed me off, because I was excited to read it after reading "The Time Traveler's Wife". After putting it down, I felt like I "missed something", so I hit the internet to see if I was the only one and the blogs were full of people with the same feeling... definitely a disappointment. It was SO GOOD until the last chapter. UGH. Never buying another book of hers again. I hope she reads these critiques!

Grapes of Wrath has the worst ending, ever. In that it just stops. He goes on and on in great detail forever and six thousand days and then just.......stops.

I didn't mind the ending. It ended abruptly, yes, but I felt everything had been wrapped up.

I don't know if I have ever disliked an ending. I would end some books differently if I had been writing them. Sometimes Jodi Picoult's endings confuse me.

Loved the book right up until the last 20 pages. Terrible ending. Another hateful ending was House Rules.

I hated the ending of this book. Just hated it.
One Day had an awful ending as well. It felt rushed and mostly I didn't believe the characters felt anything for each other.

I loved this book. I did feel the ending was a bit rushed, but it was strong and unexpected. I often find myself thinking about this book. I look forward to her next book.

I agree with both this book and One Day. It is so disappointing to invest yourself in the story to have a big let down at the end. The Other Hand also has an ending that begs belief - why read the whole book only to be right back where you started and therefore nothing solved??

The worst ending I've come across is "Off Season" by Anne Rivers Siddon. Just horrendous.

Yes, the ending was disappointing.....but then so was the beginning and the middle. I think the author's big mistake was attempting to create characters and a plot......this ruined the whole book. It it had just been a simple book about the history of Highgate Cemetery with some vignette-type observations from the people who volunteer there this would have been a fascinating book.

the lovely bones, if you find me, the fault in our stars, handle with care

I disliked the entire book (after having loved Time Traveller) so the ending wasn't a disappointment. I seemed in keeping with the rest of the nonsense carried out by the cast of selfish, spiteful, wholly unlikeable characters. That I even finished the book amazes me. I think I just kept hoping it would get better.
