Today the episode was on where Jess visits Rory while she lives at the Gilmore's. I never thought that she and Logan were a good match, but in that episode it became again very clear to me. At the beginning, she has to drive Logan, Colin and that other guy from the Life and Death brigade home and they are really drunk. She's more like a baby sitter than like Logan's girlfriend.
Later she meets Jess and they decide to meet for dinner the following evening. Just when they are about to go out, Logan shows up and he's really mean to Jess, really vicious, the whole time. He makes fun of him when Rory tells him he wrote a book and really shows that he's a rich, spoilt kid.
Jess leaves and Rory runs after him. He then tells her that the life she's leading then, taking a sabbatical, living with her grandparents, being in a women's association, that's all not her - and he is right. Rory then changes back a bit but Logan continues to be the spoilt, rich kid who cannot bear a compromise (see how their story ends). I just don't like him. I understand why Rory finds him fascinating, but I guess that that's a fascination that should have worn off if the authors had stayed more true to her character (see my previous post about how annoyingly they changed her character).

message 204: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Marion, I really liked Jess for Rory also. Yeah, his actions and popularity altered her relationship with people around town, but he challenged her mentally. Dean was, as Jess pointed out, the student in the relationship; she was always trying to get him to read something she read, but I don't remember him challenging her to read anything. And she was like Logan, Colin, and Finn's babysitter. Logan seemed to make her the subservient housewife.

But Jess, on the other hand, challenged her to read new books (Hemingway) and she challenged him to try authors (Rand). He also challenged her to think about her perceptions and reasons for doing things. And he was very good about telling her that dropping out of Yale, etc wasn't her. He gave her tough love and Logan made a bet with her on how long it would last.

I'd love to read your old post about the changes in Rory's character. Where can I find it?

message 205: by [deleted user] (new)

It's message 175 in this very thread, Lori. We talked about Rory's character changes a bit more after that.
I totally agree with what you say, by the way. That's what I meant.

I disagree with you about Logan, Marion, but I get your perspective. I think they both grew and became good supports for each other. Honestly, I feel that they both became adults in that process. I just commented in another thread about their relationship, though, so I'll leave it at that.

And while I respect the opinion of all you Jess supporters, I just don't get it !!! He's such a brooding, selfish guy who thinks he and his opinions are all that. I constantly wanted to push him in the river like Luke did. Even more when he became an author, I thought he thought so much of himself that he knew better than Rory did about what she wanted, needed, deserved. Gah! The gall!

I don't get it either... I've always preferred Dean over Jess. Although it has been said that Dean is the student in the relationship, I still think he didn't deserve to be treated that way in season 2. I also think that simply sharing one's book interests is only a fraction of what can be called "challenging" someone to be a better person. Plus I have a crush on Jared Padalecki, so there you go. LOL.

message 208: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't like the way Rory treated Dean either, Dini. It is never ok to break someone's heart like that, and Rory did it twice to him. I also didn't like how they were going out the second time, I understand that Rory kind of felt pushed to find a boyfriend as everyone was bugging her, even Paris and Emily, and she remembered that she had always had fun with Dean and that it was a lot easier than with Jess, so I guess he was sort of her "comfort guy".

I am not really a Jess supporter, Michele. I just think that the other two were even worse for her. And I do think Jess had a point when he told her that dropping out of Yale and living with her grandparents and all the other things she was doing at that time were not really her.

Melissa (pretty_n_pink) | 1 comments Ok so so do not care what u gusy think Logan was perfect!!! OK maybe not perfect but I mean come on they fit so well together i mean he was smart and hot! I mean they completed each other. Rory needed to let loose a little more not be so uptight and Logan needed some more structure. Even Mitchum said she made a good influence on his life! I mean Come On! I would die to have a guy like logan he is perfect!! But all that said i still have to say that i vote for the mystery guy to come bc he just might be perfect u know a mixture of all three important good guys.

message 210: by Jessica (last edited Jan 20, 2009 05:39PM) (new)

Jessica (panda_k) | 30 comments That's a tough one for me.....I loved Jess for Rory because, as it has already been stated, Jess challenged Rory mentally. The two were pretty much on the same level.

At the same time, I thought that Logan brought a little fun and spontonaity into Rory's life. He was the "bad boy" and she was the "good girl." Yes Jess was also seen as a "bad boy", but his "bad" traits did not rub off on her. Some of Logan's did. I loved Logan's charcater but I am glad Rory did not end up with him. Really I think the way that the show was ended was the best choice( i.e. none of them), I think somone in between those two would be ideal.

Sad to say I was never really fond of Dean. I apologize to those who loved him, but I found him kind of boring....

message 211: by Carlos (new)

Carlos | 1 comments I sort of stop watching the show after Jess left.. so yea I would pick Jess and Rory hands down.. the show was just a bil cliche with Loghan.

Jess's personality > Loghan

message 213: by Christina (last edited Mar 16, 2009 08:49AM) (new)

Christina Cramer (iluvbeingme23) | 3 comments I agree that each guy was in Rory's life at the right time.

But I definitely think Jess is the best for her. Other than the fact that he showed up in her life so many times, my personal opinion is that he knew her better than anyone else. I think he understood who she really was and helped her along that path of finding herself more.

I've been analyzing why the relationship failed, but that's a different conversation. Haha.

message 214: by Kirby (last edited Mar 18, 2009 05:10AM) (new)

Kirby | 13 comments Jess! My dad and I used to actually sit in the living room and argue between Dean and Jess (this was before Logan came along). :P He thought Dean was reliable and a gentleman and I thought he was boring and annoying, with lame hair. It would get pretty heated and I'm almost positive that he was really arguing about my current and old boyfriend. ;)

message 215: by [deleted user] (new)

It's actually really cute that you and your dad talk about Gilmore Girls, Kirby : )
My dad hates all the shows i watch.

LOL Kirby... how fun it is to watch GG with dad.

message 217: by Kirby (new)

Kirby | 13 comments It is pretty funny, especially when he gets all worked up about these characters. Sometimes he even sheds a tear. :) My dad was actually the one who bought me my first season of Gilmore Girls on dvd. It was cute.

message 218: by Aine (new)

Aine O'Mahoney | 2 comments Jess, Jess, Jess!!! Come on, isn't he Rory's kindred spirit? They shared a love of books and were a match for each other intellectually, In my opinion he was her first love (Dean was just sloppy puppy love).. There was an electric magnetism between Rory and Jess from day one..

When Jess showed up later in Rory's life (the Logan era) it was just a case of bad timing.. I like to think they will reconnect later down the line and live an amazing, bohemian lifestyle, far more exciting than chez Huntsburger!! In saying that I liked Logan a lot, I mean who could fault that smile, charm and charisma? But when if comes to the man for Rory, Jess is the one.

message 219: by [deleted user] (new)

i love logan...when dean broke up with her at the night of that party and he was there for her...i was touched...i like when he saved her from that one dude...he was like

hey honey sorry i am so late.
and he turns to the dude and says
thanks for keeping my girl busy, if you had't she might've noticed that i was late.

Dean was SO much better for her than anyone else.

message 227: by Lisa (new)

Lisa (centurybreakdown) | 1 comments I, personally am for the new and improved Jess. I thought he was perfect for her. They had the same tastes and he was basically the only one who shared her intense love of books and music. :D
Logan was okay, but he was a spoiled rich kid, although I will admit that towards the end of the series he did manage to get his act together a bit.
And Dean was just gross. He was a jerk for cheating on his wife and just in general.

I think Marty would have also been a good choice. He's runner-up to Jess. :)

message 228: by Dini, the master of meaning (new)

The whole thing about Marty's girlfriend was a bit childish, though...

message 232: by Emily (new)

Emily (bookaholicemily) | 2 comments I totally reckon LOGAN was suppose to be the one. I mean wat the hell happend in dat series. I really luv it and everything and its only a series but on da last seasons cover afta watching dawhole series from start to end i carnt even look at da picture of Rory and Logan parting cos its just so depressing. I mean they totally should have lngagement nd OMG Logan is so bloody hot i wuld just ditch my career, cos he wuld totally be worth it. Logan even got rid of his dad.I just completly fell in luv with logan. Jess was ok but he really really needed a hair cut afta a while. Dean was ok also but da whole HighSchool sweet heart thing just wasnt right 4 rory. Plus in the end Dean was just one very confused person who stil needs to find himself on his own. Plus Logan is soooooooooooooooo sweet lol as u can sorta tell he just blows me away.

yeah i guess so other then the part about jesses hair i totslly agree lol

message 234: by Beth (new)

Beth I always absolutely DESPISED Jess, I think he was mean, tried to hard to be a 'bad boy', was not good looking but thought he was and generally was everything I hate.

I really wanted her to get back with Dean, but probably because I loved the first seasons more than anything else. I didn't like Logan at first but he grew on me, and in the end I would have rather she be with him than Jess.

message 235: by [deleted user] (new)

Jess was great and he wasn't really a 'bad boy' yes he first was but then he overcame it and wrote books. people make mistakes and he was much nicer to rory then Dean was. i agree bout logan i thought he was way to cocky at first but then he grew on me.

message 240: by Robbie (new)

Robbie Bashore | 592 comments I was really starting to like Tristan when he left, too. I think Logan was a bit like an older Tristan, though.

message 241: by [deleted user] (new)

message 242: by Jillybean (new)

Jillybean | 10 comments team logan!

rory and dean just wanted different things-- he was ready to settle down and she wanted to experience life, travel etc.

i couldnt stomach Jess because not only did he look like a guy i dated he had that same maddening personality. exciting and different at first but also impulsive, irrational and explosive in a way that scared me.

Logan might have been a bit pretentious at times but i think he's the best fit and a genuine person, despite his affluent upbringing...

oh how i miss the gilmore girls!

message 245: by Susana (last edited Jun 17, 2009 05:40PM) (new)

Susana | 3 comments I have to admit I love Logan. He was a real gentleman, he was smart, educated and he loved Rory. I loved that he decided to change what he was and the way he related to girls just so he could be with her.
Still, I always thought that Rory belonged with Jess, because they somehow balanced and complemented each other at the same time. Furthermore, it was clear that Rory still had feelings for him - probably because their connection was deep - when she had dropped out of Yale and he came back into her life. I understand that Jess brought more trouble than good to her life in the beginning of their relationship, but he could have been very good for her when he got his act together and published his book.
They knew each other better than they knew themselves, and they were a match made in heaven long before they knew it themselves.
Either way, and whoever you think is better for Rory, I hated that she didn't end up with anyone. I understand that the ending of the series happened faster than was expected and that they didn't have time to wrap things up correctly, but if the writers didn't think she was made to be with Logan, they could've at least added a surprise visit by Jess or Dean at her going away party, at least to leave us fans with some hope that she might not end up alone - and some idea of who she would be with.

Team Jess!

I love how even though Jess was the bad boy he really didn't do anything to cause Rory to be anything but who she wanted to be and he encouraged her to be that person. He even helped her to expand her views and see what she could be.

Dean ended up being such a scum and I was so glad that they got rid of that huge mistake! He was way too posesive from the start.

As for Logan, he was way to caught up in his money and his lifestyle to be a healthy partner for Rory. There would always be issues of trust and background not to mention the fact that he acted on impulses without caring for anyone else involved. I was so happy she said "No" to him!

I am so sad that the show had to end with no resolution for either of them. I wish the writers would do one more season to end it right.....is there a petition somewhere?

message 248: by AngieA (new)

AngieA Allen (angelwings55) I was disappointed when Rory turned Logan down, but I understood her need to try out her wings. She knew marriage to Logan had certain obligations in society that she didn't want to embrace yet; she had some other things to accomplish first. She understood that while she may be able to have it all, she couldn't have it all at once. Besides, who knows who may be out there who is even more perfect for her than anyone so far?

message 249: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 2 comments Logan-snotty rich kid who can't get his act together. He gets drunk, he cheats on her, makes it seem like it was all right, runs off to LA, has to fly to Mia's wedding to try and woo Rory.

Dean-insecure baby who didn't trust her. Oh no, what are we going to do? Rory was having fun with some guys at her own party! How dare she? I'm being sarcastic by the way. He doesn't even trust her with Jess. He needs to give her space

Jess-perfect match. Rory needs some bad boy balance in her life. They discussed books, they made out, they were perfect. Jess was always there for her, he always tried to protect her, he was always there loving her and trying to get her back. My favorite line is when she goes to his book convention and he kisses her and she says,
"I cant do this, even though he cheated on me worse, I just cant do this."
And he said,
"Wait! Your still seeing that jerk! And he cheated on you! Rory, I don't deserve this!"
It was his way of saying, you know, I'm a human, I've grown up, dont treat me like crap. and she got it. they should have gotten married

message 250: by Casey (new)

Casey (andersonca) | 3 comments Dean was definitely the neediest!

I liked Jess for the same reason Rory did, bad boy, get out there and experience that and there's something fun about being able to share her passion for books and music with him.

I felt like Logan was somewhat the middle between them, they didn't have a lot in common, but they had some things in common. I liked him for her college boyfriend, but I wasn't sure about how it would work out if they got married. They were at such different places in their lives. Not that they wouldn't have been happy (if he didn't cheat on her or do something dumb when he got mad like jump off a cliff)... but Rory still needed to be on her own for a little while I think. Maybe down the road they would have met somewhere and hooked up again.
