Melki | 149 comments My state, Pennsylvania, has one of the toughest new voter suppression laws in the country, and as of today, the ruling has not been overturned. Trying to get my 18-year-old son, who doesn't drive, the required photo ID card was a nightmare. He needed his birth certificate, social security card, and two other forms of ID bearing his address. Since he receives no utility bills, we managed to come up with only one - a bank statement. Luckily, he is attending college within the state and is able to use his student ID to vote; otherwise, I'm pretty sure he'd be screwed.

I honestly can't imagine how many people this law will keep away from the polls.

And to think I used to make fun of Texas for pulling stunts like this...

Jimmy I find this despicable. It's happening in New Hampshire also. Strictly Republican.

Ricardo | 56 comments It is crystal clear, republicans are disenfranchising the people. That`s their reaction to the demographic changes. As PA House Republican leader Mike Turzai said, that law could allow Romney to win PA. They are doing the same in all the states where they have the congress chambers and the governorship.

best news i've heard in a long time! now let's make sure that there's a permanent injunction against this law so it doesn't go into effect next year, either.

Robert Zwilling That was in the original article, it was postponed only because it could not be carried out in time but could be implemented after the election unless a permanent injunction is issued.

If the state fails to put out enough advertisements to make people aware of the situation maybe private parties and interested pacs will air their own ads on tv, radio, and maybe the web letting people know what the situation is.
