Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 92 comments I need reactions to a possible title. I won't go into what the book is about. If you saw a book called The Story of Our Days, then:
--what subject matter/genre would you expect?
--what associations would the title have in your mind?
--would you be bored, intrigued, or something else?
Thanks!

NayNay Karen it is hard to give an opinion just on a title with no knowledge of the books but if it helps here goes....

1. I would think it is a MEMOIR
2. In my mind I am thinking World War, couple meets, fall in love, and takes us on their journey.
3. I am not a fan of Memoirs, so I would be a little bored (again I assume I would be) but then I would be Intrigued because I am a sucker for romance.

Shirley Wine (httpwwwgoodreadscomshirleyw) | 7 comments Karen I have come across at least three books with very similar names on Amazon recently.

As for associations/subject matter/genre....I would probably think it was either a look back at the WWII era or someone's memoirs.

Personally that title lacks lustre for me.
It has no definition.
It's not eyecatching.
It doesn't intrigue.
It is nonedescript in that it merges into too many undefined grey subject areas.
You know your book.
Make a list of twenty strong words that decribe YOUR book and not a few thousand others and then play around with them putting 1 to 4 words in different orders until you have a second list of twenty possible titles.
Then put that list back up here and ask people which title would intrigue them enough too click buy.

Remember that the best titles as short, succinct and intriguing.

One more thing about your title "The Story of Our Days"

It is really very redundant....what is a book if it's not a story?

J.A. Beard (jabeard) | 145 comments To me it suggests "maudlin romance".

Stefani Robinson (steffiebaby140) --what subject matter/genre would you expect?

A memoir, or maybe something chick lit. Something along the lines of The Help

--what associations would the title have in your mind?

Not my thing. Probably wouldn't grab my attention.

--would you be bored, intrigued, or something else?

Honestly, unless it had a SPECTACULAR cover, my eye would probably glance right over it in a book store since it doesn't really jump out at me.

I just came across this from Michael Alvear you may like to ponder about titles

"Simply put, if you’re trying to reach me—the online book browser-- don’t make me work to figure out the meaning of your title because I’m not going to take the time to do it."

Very sage advice

Justin (justinbienvenue) | 792 comments I saw some of the comments, some are a bit forward but very true. The title sounds good but I agree with the person who said its hard to know without knowing what its about. Maybe if you like the title try to add some words to make it unique or different from most titles. You want to try and capture the reader with not just a synopsis but a catchy title. Good luck to you Karen

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about the title. It's easy to fall into the trap of over-analysing these things, when in all honesty I don't think many people (as in, readers) care that much about the title on it's own.

A book title tends to be, maybe, two words long. No-one really expects to be turned on by that alone.

Think of the film Taken, with Liam Neeson. It's just a word, and it 's only when you see the posters of it that you actually get interested in it.

Karen A. Wyle (kawyle) | 92 comments Update: I've settled on the title Wander Home. I also have a cover that my designer and I may tweak a bit more. An early reviewer has been kind enough to put the book here on Goodreads (Wander Home), and I've done a soft launch on Smashwords for the convenience of other reviewers, though I won't be publicizing it until I actually have some reviews in hand.
