♬ Week 1 Song: "Roxanne" by The Police (1978)

This is very entertaining series. I love the 1920's setting. This is a favorite time period of mine. I am a bit worried that it's going to turn into 20 books of a "romance" with Alec and Daisy that never really goes anywhere which is common with cozies and gets tedious. (cough Hannah Swenson cough cough). I've resisted the urge to read reviews and spoil the rest of the series. So crossing my fingers that the main characters will actually progress in their lives as the series continues.
song connection: multiple police department characters.

Next shelf/song is up.

I'm just on my way to bed so I think I'll wait until tomorrow until I decide on my book for this week.
I can't wait to see what you ladies choose to read. I have a feeling that my to-read list will be gaining a few new books on it by the time this game is over :)

So off to find something else.

So sticking to Damsel in Distress.

LMBO yeah I'm not a big orange fan...but being from TN you would think I would like the color orange because that is the University of Tennessee's color...orange/white. On second thought, maybe that is why I don't like the color orange because it is everywhere in TN LMBO

But that's such an ugly shade of orange, Robin. LOL it's not nearly as pretty as that Crimson color I like ;)

I'm also playing bookshelf bingo. I'm hoping whatever shelf is called tomorrow will have something I can also use for this. But if not, then I'll come up with something else and get it read before the next song.

WTG Anna!!! I am almost to the half way point of my book and I am really liking it ☺ Good Luck Mary. I am trying to fit books into this challenge too that I am reading for other challenges and so far all's well lol but that could change with next week's song pick.

Review:UGGGGGGHHHHHH.....one word to describe this book is YUCK!!!!I am certainly not the proper audience to give this book a fair review. I really don't care for thrillers and I definitely don't care for politics lol. It's bad enough to hear/read about real life politics(which I don't care for) much less read a book about politics when I'm supposed to be doing it for pleasure. If I didn't need this book for a challenge it would have definitely been a DNF for me but as painful as it was I stuck with it until the end. This was a well written book full of action/adventure/thrills but just not my genre. I have read some books by John Grisham that I did enjoy so it isn't the author it was just the subject/topic of the book that I didn't like. If you like the political/thriller basis then you would probably thoroughly enjoy this book.

which works for this weeks song.

♬ Week 2 Song: "Killing Me Softly" by The Fugees (1996)

Book: Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh
Rating: ★★
Finished: 16th September, 2012
Review: I loved the world created for this book. Angels are the ones who turn humans into vampires? It was something I’ve not come across before and I liked how the human, vampire and angel worlds all interacted within the one society. There were other little things that I liked because they added to the differences between the real world and that of the Guild Hunters – like the earrings signifying marital status.
I was slightly disappointed with the romance. I couldn’t understand why Raphael and Elena would want the other – Raphael is an immortal who has been alive for thousands of years and yet for some reason he unexplainably wants Elena who he constantly refers to as his toy. I never really felt like he wanted her as anything more than a plaything. And Elena is drawn to Raphael but she puts that down to his incredible lethal beauty and angelic powers. She even goes as far as to suggest that he enjoys rape after they share a brutal kiss… and then makes out with him a few days after that. I couldn’t believe that Elena, the woman who claims that she would put her life on the line for her sister-in-all-but-blood, Guild Director Sara, would engage in a sexual relationship with the man who was threatening Sara’s daughter’s life every couple of chapters. It just did not compute for me.
By the time end of the novel came around I was hoping that I could believe in the two of them as a couple but I didn’t feel like any of their previous issues was resolved. They weren’t a romantic couple in my eyes and I wouldn’t put it past either one to stab the other one in the back when they weren’t looking.
In terms of drama and action – there’s a lot going on. There were a lot of characters introduced and a lot of mystery still involved regarding them. With respect to the minor characters, I would consider reading the next book in the series.
*SONG LINK - This book has a character who was an assassin.

Thanks LK!! The other books I have read by JG I have liked this one just got me with the politics which happens to be a topic I'm not quite interested in.

Thanks CaroB!! I try to be fair and balanced when I know I am not the target audience for a particular genre of a book.

Awesome review Kate!!! I haven't read anything by this author YET so I appreciate your review. It gives me things to look/be prepared for when I do start reading these books ☺

I still really like Nalini Singh - I'm still a fan of the Psy-Changling series. I'm amazed at how different the two series are.

I've never read a John Grisham novel before but have seen many movie adaptations of his books. I think I like the movies because there's enough action and other stuff that the politics is secondary and doesn't require as much attention. To be honest, I don't really think I understand the US political and justices systems at all...

I usually like the book better than the movie...but I think I will have to follow you on this one and say I would probably like the movie more than the book because there would be more going on in the movie so that I could let the politics play second fiddle. Being an American, our political/justice systems still confuses me LOL as it seems the rules of the game change on a daily basis LMBO
