I haven't read any shifter books...I think the closest I have come to any type of shifter was the "weres" in the Twilight series. What I have gathered from all you fellow book junkies is that there are all kinds of shifters and I rely on you all to guide me into what's hot and what's not LMBO and not sure that's a good idea cuz who knows what I could end up reading lololololol **giggles and snickers** ☺☺☺

Winter is quickly approaching and I have a feeling we might be in for a bad one this year with lots and lots of snow so I am lining up books and getting prepared LOLOLOL When it starts snowing and gets all blizzardy here I'm sure my trips to the library will be slim to none LOL I am making lists etc of what I will hopefully get read this winter ☺ This author will be a good addition!!!

Week 7: ♪♩ "My Boyfriend's Back" - The Angels (1963)
Book: Rapture by JR Ward
Rapture (The Fallen Angels, #4) by J.R. Ward
Rating:★★★
Date: 20 October 2012
Review:

I'm always excited for new JR Ward books but I wasn't looking forward to this one as much as some of the others - the hero, Matthias, was the villain in one of the previous books of the series and I can't help hold grudges against fictional characters...

Rapture isn't as sexy or intense as the previous books but I did like how the sweet relationship between Matthias and Mels developed. Mels is lovely and strong in her own way. I really liked her as a lead.

I'm still a little confused as to why Evil is allowed to break the rules and get away with it but the side of good isn't... Surely this game should be a little fair.

This book was a little slow at times but that might just be because I didn't like Matthias and found him to be a bit tedious to read.

I'll still be reading the rest of the books of this series - I love the supporting characters of Adrian and Jim but this book won't go down as one of my favourites.

Lina | 5563 comments Same here. I read the first one and decided not to continue with the series. Sounds like it's not that bad though.

I got to page 59 of the first one......and then had to return it to the library before I could pick it up again and get it finished...the names of these characters got to me as well as the bad guy looking and smelling like baby powder LOLOL I'm going to finish and continue on with the series but I must admit it has me cracking up.

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments The only shifters I don't like are birds, reptiles or water animals (selkies, merfolk). I am most partial to heroes who shift to dragons.

message 260: by Lina (last edited Oct 20, 2012 11:37PM) (new)

Lina | 5563 comments I'm partial to wolf-shifters myself :-) Although lions and Tigers come a close second and third... Must admit, I prefer shifters to vampires, though I know most people wouldn't agree.

message 261: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I'm with you. I like vamps by shifters are my preference. My faves being dragons, wolves and big cats. I read a short in an anthology awhile ago and they shifted into gargoyles. There was even a sex scene with them as gargoyles. Yuck.

message 262: by Lina (new)

Lina | 5563 comments Seriously?! LOL, I can't imagine how sex with a gargoyle would ever be considered... well, sexy! ugh.

I think because there are so many storylines and some of them take many many many books to resolve it's a series many people either love or they hate.

As for the villains smelling like baby powder - I've always hated that scent so it has always just felt fitting to me :P

--

I currently prefer shifters to vampires too. Especially Dragon shifters but I'm also partial to tigers or wolves.

I can't imagine a shifter in gargoyle form... but maybe that's because whenever I see the word gargoyle I get the image of the ones from Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame...

Mine to Possess (Psy-Changeling, #4) by Nalini Singh

10/23/12
4 stars

My Boyfriend's Back

I actually kept putting this off because I really don't like to read books where there's violence against kids. Not that this book glorifies violence against kids. But it's main plot line is gifted but troubled kids getting snatched and murdered. But I have this OCD compulsion to read series in order so.., I finally read it. Great book. I am partial to tortured, emotionally scarred hero/herone. These 2 were definitely that. I'm not sorry that I bought books 3-9 brand new.

Susan has just raised a good point about the link of full sun on the cover for this week. Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments I'm kind of skeeved out by this book. He suspects she might be a byblow of his father or uncle, she looks just like him and his siblings and he's lusting after her. And he's not disgusted by the fact that she could be his half-sister or 1st cousin. Ick.

eta: yet strangly I want to keep reading it. Does that make me a perve?

message 285: by Mary X (new)

Mary X (marymaryalwayscontrary) | 752 comments Nope I can't do it. I can't finish this book. He's married to one woman, lusting after the heroine who he strongly thinks is his half-sister and he just had sex with his Uncle's mistress.

I will find something else. I have decided that I am not up for 3 hours in a movie theater tonight. I wish they would have these things on weekend afternoons.

Lina | 5563 comments Mary, for some reason I hadn't seen your second book last night when I answered your question about the moon on the Rules & Discussion thread. Seeing it this morning, I can clearly see the full outline of the moon in Crux (Southern Arcana, #1) by Moira Rogers , so if you want to swap for that, it would be fine.

Book Choice:Walk Two Moons

Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech

Rating:★★★★
Finished: October 24, 2012
Review:I have looked at this book several times and always bypassed it for something else. Why? Probably because I am really bad about judging a book by its cover and this cover really isn't that appealing to me nor is the title or the blurb. But let me say this, all of that is deceiving when it comes to this book. I really enjoyed reading this book. The author does an awesome job of weaving the two stories of Sal and Phoebe into one. Although at times it is humorous, it's also an emotional story of loss, love, and forgiveness. A great story involving the turbulent ride of teenage emotions ☺

Tempting Fate (MacGregors, #2) by Nora Roberts
Rating:★★★
Finished: October 25, 2012
Review:
This is the second book in the Macgregor's series and it focuses on Caine (Serena's brother), a hard working lawyer and Diane (Justin's sister). It's cute and fun - I love the matchmaking Daniel - patriarch of the Macgregor family.

As is the mainstay of a lot of romance novels - there's misunderstandings and interfering families - all that stuff that I love in books but can't stand in real life.

I'm glad that during the course of this dance party I discovered Nora Roberts.

I bought this series as part of a book box from ebay like 10 years ago. I read the 1st one right around that time and then never went back to them. One thing I like about JAK is that usually her series aren't so tied together that you can't follow if you skip one or take a long break inbetween. I read Sweet Starfire 10 years ago. I had no problem jumping right into this book and following it. Now I want to reread Sweet Starfire. Anyway I am glad I kept it and Shield's Lady through multiple military moves.
