A good place to introduce yourself right here. I am Justin I read everything but mostly horror, I drive a fork truck at work, and raise chickens and rabbits for both meat and profit at home. I love hot peppers and hot sauce, I have been a hot sauce reviewer for multiple websites and had dinner with some of the top hot sauce manufacturers around. I have a wife and two girls and we live in Michigan.

Carla Coon (carlacoon) | 14 comments Hi all; I wanted to introduce myself to the group. I'm an old writer, but a new fiction author. I wrote a Horror Thriller. (I hate labeling my book because like a King or Koontz it crosses genres.) Writing is necessarily secondary to my real job as wife and mother of 8 (yes, I typed 8) children.
I have never tried paced reading, so I'm wondering how I will do and if it will feel like homework, or if I will have trouble not rushing ahead. I talk fast, I walk fast, I drive fast (always at the front of the pack.)LOL Glad to be here. Thank you Justin for this group.
Here is my book if you want to check it out:

The Glen The Glen by Carla Coon

So what did you write before your horror thriller?

message 4: by Carla (new)

Carla Coon (carlacoon) | 14 comments Oh sorry I should have said. I wrote for news magazines, in-depth research articles, op-ed pieces and the like. I also worked as editor of a statewide newsletter for a couple years for a not for profit group. I specialized in religious studies, and used that knowledge as a backdrop to my horror tale of good versus evil.
When I first wrote THE GLEN, I labelled it thriller. It was my brother, who questioned my choice saying it was horror. I was surprised and he said, "Carla, your main character there is one down from the devil - you can't get any more horror than the devil."
LOL
I've worn a lot of hats over the years from ballroom dance instructor to non-profit coordinator, graphic design and even computer programmer, most while raising eight kids and homeschooling seven of them. I hope my varried background enriches my writing as well as my imagination.

Cate | 107 comments Hey, my name is Cate. I'm currently attending school at a university in Louisiana, but I am originally from Texas. I love all things horror--even now as I'm typing this I'm watching Hellraiser haha. Not many of my friends are into horror lit, or reading in general, so I have decided to turn to the Internet to find like-minded individuals.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I'm the same way, I grew up watching horror movies, reading horror books/novels, listening to horrorcore music, anything horror I can find pretty much. I have been expanding my reading to new genras but horror is still my number one.

message 10: by Cate (new)

Cate | 107 comments For me it started with my dad allowing me to watch all the classics when I was in kindergarten, which was probably waaaaay too young. I had seen my dad reading Stephen King growing up, and I read my first Stephen King novel when I was 10. That pretty much opened Pandora's box, and I couldn't get enough horror/paranormal/sci-fi lit. I'll read pretty much read anything, though.

My first Stephen king novel was in fifth grade and I graduated in 2002 so if I did my math right I was right around 10 or 11. The book was Gerald's game what was yours?

I was reading ya novels by second grade and I think my first adult horror was 4th or 5th. I remember a cover that had a bloody knife stuck in a grave but I don't know what it was called or even about. I sure wish I would come across that cover somewhere, I would love to re-read it.

By ya novels I mean R.l. Stine and my teacher is an alien, not the the longer YA novels I like to read today.

I re-read Gerald's game a couple years ago and was suprised to remember a few things as I read them. One thing that stuck with me but I didn't know where it was from is "you're not real, you're made of moonlight and shadows"

message 16: by Cate (new)

Cate | 107 comments I can remember a lot of things I've read/seen if a person was to mention them. I can remember stuff like that and stupid trivia, but I can't remember things that are actually valuable in life haha

I always get a few bottles of liquor but mostly buy alot of hot sauce. I used to do hot sauce reviews for a couple different websites and I first went to jungle Jim's to attend the weakend of fire. We have a few friends in the area that we know from hot sauce shows that we get together with when we go down there also.

Yea, any other group read I do I wait until I have read the entire book then post my comments and talk about it but there really isn't any difference between that and commenting on a review. I like to discuss as I read, because there is just so much more to discus than weather or not I liked the book. To me It feels more like a real book club this way. I looked for paced reading groups on goodreads and couldn't find any so I created this one and I am very happy with it. I thought about making one for other genras since I do read more than just horror but I wouldn't be able to be as committed to it as I am with this one because I mostly just read horror.

message 33: by Rochelle (new)

Rochelle Hi everyone, my name is Rochelle and I am from New Zealand, I am a sergeant for the Aviation Security Service of NZ, I love reading, I am a huge Steven King fan, fav book Gerald's Game. Currently my favourite author is Richard Laymon. I am also into fantasy. I consider myself to be Slash's (guns n roses) biggest fan I LOVE HIM! married with no kids.

message 34: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments Hi, I am Robert and I read most kinds of books, though more horror than anything. I prefer physical books over eBooks, and prefer hardcover books over paperback.

I also collect books, and a majority of my book purchases the last 3 years or so have been from small press publishers, and a majority of those books are signed limited editions. I am the type of collector who likes to enjoy their books and reads their limited edition books. The exception to that being the signed edition of Stephen King's 25th anniversary edition of IT from Cemetery Dance. I do plan to read my gift edition of that book, but the signed one will be kept safe.

Oh, and I am married and do not have any children

if I could afford to collect anything it would be books, I do collect them just not nice ones. the exception is wrath james white, I have most of his books in print.
welcome to the group.

message 36: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments The one good thing about the economy being in the crapper lately is that collectible book prices on the secondary market are pretty low for most things. The quality of the books from the small press publishers like Cemetery Dance is so much more than what the big publishers produce. The customer service is much better too usually. Hoping to get more money soon on a regular basis to grow my collection even more, though I do not have room for more books right now really. And I still have like 20 books on preorder, lol

Hi everyone. Pretty new to Goodreads and came across this group. I've always thought about joining a book club but never found any horror ones. I don't know many people that read so it would be great to have someone to discuss books with.

A bit about me. I work in a call centre as a team manager. Spend quite a bit of my spare time reading. Too many books and not enough time lol. I've got too wee mental kittens that don't like me reading as well lol. Always try to pull my book out my hands.

I'll join in with the next book yous start.

Oh. My faourite horror authors are Richard Laymon, Bryan Smith, Wrath James White, Brian Keene, Edward Lee, Jack Ketchum, Jeff Strand, J.F.Gonzalez and Iain Rob Wright.

welcome to the group Kevin. that favorite author list pretty much mirrors mine except I have never heard of Iain rob wright I will have to check him out.

message 39: by [deleted user] (new)

His style reminds me of Laymon. Very easy to read. I've only read 4 of his books so far and they have all been great. Seasick is a good place to start. Fantastic story. The Final Winter is great too.

Hi everyone, I'm Kate and live in Melbourne, Australia. I've been on Goodreads for a few months and decided to check out this group after becoming acquainted with Justin through Horror Afficionados and Darkfuse book club.

I work as the manager in an operating suite so I use reading as an escape from the stress of the job.

My favourite author would be Richard Laymon, I've read nearly everything by him and love his work. Other authors I like are Stephen King, Edward Lee, Wrath James White, Jack Ketchum and Stuart McBride.

message 42: by [deleted user] (new)

No Justin. It's an apocalyptic horror about a group of people trapped in a pub during a mental snow storm. Pretty good read and it was his first book.

Hi Kate. Seems quite a few people on here like the same authors.

So many good forums! Does anyone here read more books than forums? I'm on a dangerous path. I haven't even completed my Darkfuse profile yet and I already suspect my yearly Goodreads Reading Challenge of mysteriously creeping down to an embarrassing fraction of the goal I set in January.

But hey, good times!

message 45: by [deleted user] (new)

lol. I wonder about the amount of time I spend on forums too other than reading but I'm way ahead of my target amount of books to read in 2013
