Heather (ham1299) | 4 comments An author friend of mine told me she's been having trouble with her book's title being edited repeatedly. She goes back to fix it, then a couple of weeks later it's wrong again. This is the book:
Aerenden: The Child Returns

The title IS Aerenden: The Child Returns.

Someone keeps removing "Aerenden" from the title. This is WRONG. Please don't remove that from the book's title!

Looks like it's not one librarian repeatedly making the change, but a different one each time.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments rivka, which is correct?

This happens a lot with comics that are part of a series. The series is Aerenden and the books title is The Child Returns.

I usually will not delete the series name, but I can see why some people think this is right. Rivka, which is the correct way?

Generally preferred is

            Book Title (Series Title, #number)

However, when the title is written on the cover as Series Title: Book Title, then

Series Title: Book Title (Series Title, #number)

is acceptable, though redundant. And in the rare case that the cover only has Series Title on the first volume (example), then it is the preferred format.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments If the title gets changed again, despite there being a librarian note not to already, maybe a link to this thread should be added.

Scott | 8696 comments Heh, I was about to say that a similar thing happened with Robert Sawyer's WWW series, but it looks like the WWW is back in the titles, now.

Heather (ham1299) | 4 comments The author has explained to me that all of the books will be titled
Aerenden: The Child Returns
Aerenden: (Insert book here)
and so on.

So, while the series is Ærenden, Aerenden is part of the title of each book, too. (I think it has something to do with the special character, which most people don't know how to make and doesn't do well with search engines.)

Heather (ham1299) | 4 comments I meant do add, thank you. I know Kristen really appreciates the help! :-)

Krystal109 | 1086 comments It doesn't matter what the author said. It is what policy says.

Policy is that it is okay to have Aerenden: The Child Returns.

When I mentioned this is the librarian manual additions thread on titles I was even informed that it was already there... that I had glazed over the sentence that explains it.

If the book was titled The Child Returns: An Aerenden Novel, on the other hand, the second part would be taken away.

This is the small difference that seems to confuse people.

Heather (ham1299) | 4 comments That is a very tiny difference, but good to know. Thank you for pointing that out.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments So, maybe title should say "Ærenden..." but search line should say "Aerenden..." to accommodate members who do not put special character in their search?

Vicky (librovert) | 2462 comments I think it's fine as is, no need to over-think it. ;)

There is no "search line". If you mean the sort title, that only affects sorting on shelves and such. That field is not indexed by the search engine.
