I just think that in Starclimber, Kenneth came up with such a brilliant idea for an alien species. The idea of creatures that don't have to breathe, and are essentially self-contained ships, is just so awesomely original. And yes, I giggled when I read the Etherian mating scene. Loudly. In a restaurant.
All right, so they're somewhat like Aerozones... Actually, wait a minute. Could Aerozones be Etherians that got trapped in Earth's atmosphere and evolved? They're more like them than anything earth-based, save jellyfish, and I don't see how jellyfish could get into the sky. Hmmm.
