Reading Schedule **Final**
Proustitute, do you want a separate folder for The Captive and The Fugitive or do you want a single folder that combines those two volumes?
Sure. This is tiring. I'll do Time Regained, though. That way it will not interrupt you. I PM'd you where I left off.
No problem, Kris. I set the dates on the bookshelf, too, so now you'll see a little "upcoming" picture of Swann's Way. Very exciting!Kris, you need to choose an appropriate mod title, like Captain Kick-Ass!

Or Captain OCD. :)
I'll think of something.....
And dear Proustians: many, many thanks to Kris and Jason for setting up our primary text threads! They win the award for the day... whatever that might be. i made chocolate chip bread today...y'all want some?

That sounds great -- send it over!
Kris wrote: "It doesn't matter -- it looks delicious!"haha, thanks! it was pretty tasty for an experiment (i didn't have a recipe)
i'll be happy to provide snacks and treats along our Proust journey...i think we will need them. i get snacky when i read, i don't know about anyone else...
The schedule is very manageable, thank you! I can get in other reads while not feeling overwhelmed.Question re: dates on the schedule. Is this the date you expect discussion to begin, or the date when you expect we will begin reading? Or both? ;-)
Does anyone know how the paging translates to a Sony PRS T2 ebook reader in format epub? It would help me so much! Thanks.
Wince, there's some phrasing in Message 1 which you could search for to know where to read to.Nook books are EPUB, so it might be the same as that, but I'm not sure. Best thing to do is to go by the phrasing.
Wonderful thank you Proustitute! I am really looking forward to this, it will be my first time reading Proust.
Thanks a lot fo this :DJason wrote: "Ok, here are the Kindle locations for the complete boxed set version

All right - I'm committing! Someone in the 1001 Books to Read Before You Die group recommended this group & I'm so glad they did. I'm slightly intimidated but am diving right in and getting the kindle version tonight.

I think it was Elizabeth(Alaska) that made the suggestion in 1001
Thanks to all who worked on the schedules and pages for the different versions. I am really excited to have a group to enhance the reading. I have started a few times, but I have always become discouraged and distracted.

I've noticed my edition of the Complete Kindle Boxed Set is a few locations off from those listed here. For example,
06 Jan – read to 1123
13 Jan – to 2059
The individual Kindle volumes (at least Swann's Way) has page numbers that match the physical books in the Modern Library Editions. Not a big deal, I guess, but Kindle readers should take note. I'm already two weeks ahead of schedule anyway and it might be difficult to stop reading.

I'm starting Budding Grove probably today, so you're not the only one who can't stop reading. I tried to slow myself down by padding with some auxiliary materials, but I can't wait.
I've had these books on my shelf for way too long. I don't have the exact translations y'all have picked, but I'm looking forward to starting my proustian adventure tomorrow!
Started reading and can't help but think of The Memory Chalet and the comparison with Tony Judt who was also an invalid, suffering from Lou Gehrig's Disease. I was always fascinated by Judt remembering hour long speeches by mentally placing trains of thought in different areas and rooms that he would recollect as he mentally walked about his house. Proust also revisted rooms to revive his memory. As I am reading, I have a great sense of Tony Judt having read Proust's own account (before me)of being trapped in his body and identifying and receiving comfort and strength from his words.
Reemk10, do you want to repost that in the week one thread to stimulate a discussion there? I'm gathering some thoughts on that and planning to post in there, too.http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1...

Oh okay, I'll do so tomorrow. Cheers PV :)
Are the Kindle locations for the Lydia Davis translation the same as the Modern Library locations? I didn't buy mine from Amazon *ahem* so it doesn't have the page numbers.
Well, to answer my own question, it looks like they are not the same. From what I can tell, the Kindle locations of the Lydia Davis translation of Swann's Way should be as follows:06 Jan – read to 1068
13 Jan – to 1953
20 Jan – to 2930
27 Jan – to 3813
03 Feb – to 4795
10 Feb – to 5722
17 Feb – to 6578
24 Feb – finish
I've been treading guiltily through the Folio edition since last May, so this group is just the structure, motivation, and support I need!
I'll be starting this undertaking a tad late, but hopefully I'll be able to catch up in a month or so.

The weekly sections are not long, although they require careful reading. You should be able to catch up with the rest.

When you finish you will feel indebted to Proust, as he will have given you so much joy, wisdom, laughter....

Me, too. We are both clearly Type A with a high affinity for organization.
