Kris (krisrabberman) | 136 comments I think this weekly estimate seems manageable, and I like your idea about finding natural points to break every week.

I was running around most of today, but I should have something mocked up tomorrow.

Marieke | 181 comments Yes, I agree. I have the so-called six-pack plus a previously acquired Lydia Davis edition of Swann's Way and I think I should not have a problem reading each book within 2 months. ~100 pages per week is very manageable alongside the other reading activities I know I'll have.

Do you anticipate auxiliary readings being more or less informal that members will take up as they see fit, or do you think you'll recommend certain things at certain points for people to take up depending on their levels of interest? I'm just curious. I don't expect an answer right away if you aren't sure about the auxiliary books.

Okay; that sounds good. I just wanted to see if I should be planning around that or not. But I'm game for impromptu threads! Incidentally I picked up my giant Proust bio today from the library. I think I will need my own copy. :)

I like the idea of option two - if you set up separate folders for each volume and then put the relevant threads within the folders, I think it will stay organized, and there's not as much concern over spoilers.

message 6: by Marieke (new)

Marieke | 181 comments Yes, I agree with Kris: folders for each volume with threads for each week. It should work well.

Schedule looks great; not too slow it loses momentum, not so fast it's too hard.

At least that's how it seems to me; would we all agree?

message 8: by Jason (new)

Jason (ancatdubh2) I second Kris's idea of a folder for each volume. Then you'd have only about 8 or so threads per folder, which is manageable.

Thank you for organizing all this, Proustitute. I cannot imagine how much work this is for you.

If anyone can match Kindle locations to Page #'s, that info would be useful for those reading on Kindle.

message 9: by Jason (new)

Jason (ancatdubh2) By the way, I'm not suggesting you do that, Proustitute. I just mean if anyone happens to have both paper & electronic editions, they might be able to assist in that regard once the final reading schedule is posted.

I am nerrrrrvous. Am I not going to be able to read anything else in 2013??

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

That's an excellent idea, Jason.

Anyone out there got the Kindle versions? If so, once my Modern Library editions arrive I can let them know what text to search for ...

message 11: by Jason (last edited Aug 26, 2012 04:53AM) (new)

Jason (ancatdubh2) @Joshua, I have the boxed set Kindle version (so it is just one "book" that is the entire modern library collection). You and I can work together on that. Just PM me when you get your books and Proustitute posts the official schedule. Or if Proustitute posts some phrases (message 17), I can do it and let you guys know.

For people who have the individual ebooks books, I think I might be able to guess-calculate, but like I said I just have the "boxed set."

I hope I will have enough remembrance to go in search of this before too much time is lost. (I'll start on it soon.)

Danielle (Love at First Page) This sounds very manageable. Thanks!

Jenn(ifer) Sounds great to me. Thank you so much for organizing this and finally giving me the push I need to read Proust!

Jason (ancatdubh2) Proustitute wrote: "This is giving me a headache. I seem to keep coming up with us finishing in January 2014."

What if you aimed for 12/24 instead of 12/31 as a finish date? Divide by 51?

message 18: by Marieke (new)

Marieke | 181 comments or calculate months and volumes (some months will have more reading in them)...?

message 19: by Marieke (new)

Marieke | 181 comments i just checked how many pages i read total last year to get a sense of about how many i read a week and i averaged 540 pages/week, so i am thinking i should be okay managing both Proust and IJ; and once IJ is read through, i'll have more time for tackling some of the auxiliary readings here in the Proust group.

it's gonna all be good. i suggest preserving your noggin and not putting it into the wall. ;)

message 20: by Jason (new)

Jason (ancatdubh2) I might start IJ in November.

Kris (krisrabberman) | 136 comments Proustitute wrote: "Marieke wrote: "or calculate months and volumes (some months will have more reading in them)...?"

Yes, this is what I'm doing now. So for some of the lengthier volumes like The Guermantes Way at 9 weeks, we're doing 90-92 pages per week. So it will fluctuate that way. Other than that, I'd be driving my head into the wall here!

I should have it ready in a few hours. I'm doing that while finishing a few other projects. "

This sounds like a viable approach to me. I agree with Marieke - no driving of heads into walls, please - we need yours!

Kris (krisrabberman) | 136 comments Jason wrote: "I might start IJ in November."

I think you should do whatever seems to feel best to you on start dates, Jason. I'll have the discussion threads up by then. I know some group members are starting IJ really soon, and we have veterans, so you'll have people to discuss it with you whenever you start.

I may start earlier too, although it depends on what November is like for me. I have a conference presentation at the end of the month....
