Ann | 273 comments In honor of school year starting up again our September Challenge is to read a children’s or teen novel for the month.

message 2: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie123) | 263 comments Yippee! I have "Forsaken" checked out already, so I will count that as my challenge book.

message 3: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Moody | 19 comments awesome challenge - perfect timing with it being back to school :)

message 4: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 112 comments Easy... since I'm a teacher, I read children's and YA books all the time. :)

message 5: by Allen (new)

Allen (allengreenwell) | 19 comments Maybe this will be the motivation I need to finally read Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.

message 6: by Samm (new)

Samm (ashmanrose) | 1 comments I'm going to try the "The Messenger" by Markus Zusak. I've been meaning to read it and this is a great fit.

message 7: by Jana (new)

Jana | 36 comments My boys and I always listen to books together. We are just about to start Steinbeck's ghost. This is an easy challenge, but a good one!

message 8: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments I'm going to ready The Lightening Thief (percy jackson #1). That series is complete right? I don't read incomplete series after my years of waiting with Harry Potter.

message 9: by Holly (new)

Holly | 309 comments Mod
My daughter is always wanting me to read "The Monstrumologist" by Rick Yancy, so I think I'll make that my goal this month

message 10: by Darin (new)

Darin | 121 comments I checked out "Kill Order" the prequel to James Dashner's Maze Runner series.

message 11: by Linda (new)

Linda Nielson | 279 comments The summer challenge was fun and difficult to find all the books. Even though it is now Sept., I finally finished the challenge over this long weekend. The Septempber challenge will be easy, because this is what I do all day is read children and teen books with kids. I am in the middle of Gideon the Cutpurse and will read it for the challenge.

message 12: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I was 2/3 through James Dashner's A Door in the Woods when this challenge was announced. And I've now finished it. BUT, I'm currently reading Dashner's 2nd Jimmy Fincher book, A Gift of Ice; plus I'm reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days. Both I expect I will finish before the month is out. So I may well have one of those as my official "read" in the challenge. I love kids and YA books!

message 13: by Mary (new)

Mary | 43 comments I read the follow-up to Divergent, Insurgent by Veronica Roth, over the long holiday weekend. So count me in!

message 18: by April (new)

April | 7 comments I really enjoyed reading it.

Britt, Book Habitue (britt--bookhabitue) | 767 comments I read The Ice Dragon by George R R Martin. (Assuming that JF counts for this, lol)
Very enjoyable.

Yep! The Percy Jackson series is complete; however, the author has started a spin off series called Heroes of Olympus. It takes place in the same world and with some of the same characters as the Percy Jackson series. The spin off series is not done yet, though.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

I read Ashes of Roses. It was really sad. I cried

message 22: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments I just finished The Lightning Thief I can't wait to read the rest of the series !

I read UnWholly, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and I'm currently reading The Scorpio Races. All excellent. Go YA!

Ann | 273 comments Jennifer wrote: "I read UnWholly, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and I'm currently reading The Scorpio Races. All excellent. Go YA!"

What do you think of The Scorpio Races so far? I've read the author's "The Wolves of Mercy Falls" series, which I loved, but The Scorpio Races sounded so different I wasn't sure whether I'd like it or not.

message 27: by Debbie (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments I have finished A Door in the Woods (Jimmy Fincher Saga book 1), Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle, and I will finish The Gift of Ice (Jimmy Fincher Saga book 2) in the next day or two. So there is little doubt thatI've completed this month's challenge!

message 28: by JoAnn (new)

JoAnn (jladybug) | 144 comments I read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas. It still haunts me.

message 29: by Dawnmcd (last edited Sep 20, 2012 11:04PM) (new)

Dawnmcd | 23 comments I am going to read Human.4 (Point 4 #1) by Mike A. Lancaster on a friends recommendation.

Well that was a super fast read and I did like it. Enough that I will read the sequel.

message 30: by Trpusey (new)

Trpusey | 7 comments I read Palace of Stone by Shannon Hale. She's a great local author!

So far so good. It took me a little while to buy the premise, but now I'm really into it. It's similar to Shiver in that it's about magical creatures that exist in contemporary life. There's a romance too, though it's a bit more subtle than the one in Shiver.

message 33: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments I just finished Percy Jackson #2 Sea of Monsters. 3 stars. I'm really enjoying this series, very fun.

message 34: by Ann (new)

Ann | 273 comments Just a reminder: you have until this Sunday, September 30, to let me know if you have completed the September Reading Challenge.

I hope you have all enjoyed reading a children’s or teen book.

message 35: by Ann (new)

Ann | 273 comments I have finally posted October’s reading Challenge. Sorry for the delay.

message 36: by Allen (new)

Allen (allengreenwell) | 19 comments I did it. I finally finished reading Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. I was impressed with it enough that I'll probably read the next one.

message 37: by Debbie (last edited Sep 29, 2012 09:59AM) (new)

Debbie (dashforcover) | 1219 comments Books I have finished for this challenge. OK, I was reading them anyway, challenge or not:

A Door in the Woods (Jimmy Fincher Saga book 1)
The Gift of Ice (Jimmy Fincher Saga book 2)
The Tower of Air (Jimmy Fincher Saga book 3)
Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Dog Days
The Voyages of Dr. Dolittle

So there is little doubt that I've completed this month's challenge! You say there is a Jimmy Fincher book missing? Not to worry, it's in progress. It's just unlikely I'll finish it before the end of the month since I just started it yesterday.

message 38: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 112 comments I read Variant which I loved. But now I need to read the second in the series...it comes out on Tuesday. I hate starting series when the whole series isn't out. I probably wouldn't have read this if I'd realized it was part of a series...until the series was finished.

I also read Alcatraz Versus the Scrivener's Bones.
The Council of Mirrors
and The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate
I am almost finished reading The Graveyard Book.

message 39: by Mandy (new)

Mandy Moody | 19 comments I read Origin
It was just decent. I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more had I read it more quickly, but I was slow with this one.

message 40: by Becky (new)

Becky | 45 comments I'm glad you liked Harry Potter. the 5th book is a little whiny (with teenage angst) but other than that its one of my favorite YA series.

message 41: by Ann (new)

Ann | 273 comments Becky (the one with the girl holding a book for her picture/icon) won this month's reading challenge. She read The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.

I hope you are all enjoying reading a banned book for October’s Challenge.

message 42: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (jackie123) | 263 comments Congrats, Becky!
