Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments For those of you who haven't read elsewhere, I'm creating a map of the British Isles from the covers of books by UK and Irish indies.

If you fall into that category and would like to be featured, please let me know the ASIN of your Kindle book(s) and which (if any) geographical slot(s) you would like from the following map.

http://indie-book-bargains.co.uk/brit...

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Thanks Harrison and Geoff, I've added both.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Please can you private message Rosen with the required information.

message 4: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 817 comments Aw! Wish I lived in the UK! Will you do a world map one day, Rosen?

message 5: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Wow, a world map would be quite a mission. Katie, I'd be happy to put your books around Lancashire if you like. Would that be ok? Are any of them set in the UK?

message 6: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 817 comments They're all fantasies, Rosen, so they're not set anywhere in this world. If you have room around Lancashire, that would be great! But make sure you fit in the real Lancastrians first, not long-time expats like me.

message 7: by Sadie (last edited Aug 25, 2012 04:19AM) (new)

Sadie Forsythe Well, I'm in Shaw, just North of Manchester (early 100s on your map). so I suppose I qualify. What a cool idea, BTW. My ASIN is B0072W1LJ8 and I'd love to be on the map.

message 8: by Rosen (last edited Aug 25, 2012 06:09AM) (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Katie and Sadie, please check that your are where you'd like them.

Should I include A Goodreads Gallimaufrey? And if so, which tile should it replace?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments That's a good question Rosen.

Ignite's in Yorkshire. Best to go with the editor, do you think?

message 10: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Ooh! I have space to fill in Yorkshire!

message 11: by Sadie (last edited Aug 25, 2012 08:33AM) (new)

Sadie Forsythe I'm happy with that. So cool. It's really filling in just since I looked at it a few hours ago. I've been having a blast checking out what books are from where. Fun!

edit: oh I just realised I can make it bigger too. How did I miss that?

message 12: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I had to make do with Middlesex.

Surrey beats all the other home counties at everything.

message 13: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments England is getting very competitive. Not much luck with the Irish.

Simon (Highwayman) (highwayman) | 4276 comments Hi Rosen, how about a link back to here from your map as we seem to be contributing so much?

message 15: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Hi Simon, there has always been a link to this page on Indie Book Bargains. Would you like to provide a graphic to go there instead?

message 16: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments P.S. Only five or six of the authors featured have come from here. The rest were sourced using my personal contacts, KUF and Twitter. I'd already done a lot of work on it when I started the thread.

message 17: by Katie (new)

Katie Stewart (katiewstewart) | 817 comments That's lovely, Rosen, thank you...and great to have Lynda right next door to me! :)

message 18: by Karen (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments Will pm you Rosen.
What a great idea

message 19: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) Thanks Rosen for adding me to the map. xxx

message 20: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments This is so cool!

message 21: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Okay - I *think* I've added everybody who's approached me so far. Do let me know if I've missed you - it's not intentional.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Rosen, that's looking beeyootiful!

More Irish!

Ya know... I think I saw an Irish indie author group in Goodreads....

message 23: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Patti, it is gorgeous isn't it? We have so many beautiful covers!

I did join an Irish Goodreads group and they were helpful (after slapping my knuckles for using the term 'British Isles'!)

Simon will be pleased to read that I've added a 'Talking about this' section, with a link to this group.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments I saw you'd added that, Rosen! Made me smile so big.

EEP. I don't think I'd be brave enough to join. I'm sure I'd get the get the terminology all wrong, even knowing that many find it very important.

Simple ignorance on my part, no malice intended, of course. I do feel safe using 'UK' although I'm not completely sure it's correct.

Any who...

I'm loving the map.

What do you reckon? Get this one filled in then pull a Queen Victoria? ;)

message 25: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Personally, I'd join the Irish group, and annoy them like that on purpose.

"All you Oirish lot, you're basically English anyway."

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Not good Mikey.

That's like telling a Canadian they're basically American.

Times like that, you're grateful for free healthcare...

message 27: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Or a Cornish person that they're English - not wait...

What's 'a Queen Victoria'?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments You're not thinking what I'm thinking, Pinky?

Tomorrow, we TAKE OVER THE WORLD!!!

message 29: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments I'd love to eavesdrop in a meeting at the Cornish Nationalist Party, I just can't imagine what sort of things they would discuss.

message 30: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments If I do a global version, the tiles are going to have to be MASSIVE!

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Michael wrote: "I'd love to eavesdrop in a meeting at the Cornish Nationalist Party, I just can't imagine what sort of things they would discuss."

That's easy.

Pasties.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Rosen wrote: "If I do a global version, the tiles are going to have to be MASSIVE!"

What is wrong with having massive tiles?

message 33: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments One tile per continent?

message 34: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Ruby Barnes is in Ireland - I don't think he was born there though. Damned fine writer too!

message 35: by Karen (last edited Aug 31, 2012 01:07AM) (new)

Karen Lowe | 1338 comments If there's a gap up by St Andrews, we should have Lexie Conyngham's books there. Also if there's space up in the North East/Scots borders, Harry Nicholson's Tom Fleck would fit in nicely.

Oooh, thanks too Rosen, for fitting me in! Lovely to be back in mid Wales

message 36: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments Are those three all indies?

message 37: by M.A. (new)

M.A. Comley (melcom) You are clever, Rosen. x

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments yep all Indies

message 39: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Any room for me at the bottom end of Cumbria on the map?

message 40: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments The closest tile to Cumbria is 67 (I think). Would be happy to put you there. Sorry that you can't get a more relevant spot.

I've got Ruby Barnes on board. Will contact Lexie Conyngham and Harry Nicholson, thanks.

message 41: by Patsy (new)

Patsy Collins | 180 comments I've just realesed a book set in Portsmouth (where I live) and the cover is a picture of a portsmouth landmark - The Round Tower. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Paint-Me-A-Pi...

message 42: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Rosen wrote: "The closest tile to Cumbria is 67 (I think). Would be happy to put you there. Sorry that you can't get a more relevant spot...."

That's fine by me
My sister lives about where 67 is if it helps :-))

message 43: by Rosen (last edited Sep 03, 2012 02:33AM) (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I've added 'Swords for a Dead Lady' and 'Paint Me A Picture'. Thanks.

Sorry that book locations are straying from their ideal spots.

message 44: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I realise I'm incredibly late to the party, but as my stories are very vague about setting, I hope there might be a tile left for me somewhere, anywhere :)

I live in London, grew up in Hampshire, and studied in Birmingham. I can see all those spots have been nabbed though :)

message 45: by Michael (new)

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments Don't let Andrew in, Rosen!

He's late, and I hate people who are always late.

Especially if they're bus drivers, he might be a bus driver.

message 46: by Andrew (new)

Andrew Lawston (andrewlawston) | 1774 comments I can assure the group, and the GR community as a whole, that I am not a bus driver. I did have a bus driver housemate once. She was a schizophrenic Jamaican Jehovah's Witness. I'd write a book about her, but no one would believe it...

Speaking for myself, I can't even drive a car, let alone a bus ;)

message 47: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments Pass it off as fantasy, that's what the rest of us do :-))

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Michael wrote: "Don't let Andrew in, Rosen!

I wonder if we have any train drivers in the group. Lindsay would be really pleased by that, I bet. ;)

That map is looking so cool. When it's complete, I'm gonna blow it up and print it as big as I can and stick it up in the school libraries.

Think I'll ask if I can stick it up somewhere in the main hall too, so all the parents and staff see it.

message 49: by Rosen (new)

Rosen Trevithick (rosentrevithick) | 2272 comments I have added 'Something Nice' but if I see Andrew driving a bus there will be trouble.

message 50: by Patsy (new)

Patsy Collins | 180 comments Thanks for adding me!
