"I was talking to my dad," Albus Severus replied. He did not specify, and Rose did not question further, so they silently waved goodbye to their parents until they couldn't see them anymore.
The red seats of the compartment were soft and cushiony. Rose tucked her feet beneath her and adjusted the barrette that held the left side of her shoulder-length red-brown hair back.

Albus eyed her quizziingly, as he didn't understand why she loved books so much. Soon the trolley lady came by, just as James said she would. He pulled some money from his pocket, and bought a bag of Bernie Blott's Every Flavor Beans to share with Rose.

The two settled comfortably and began to snack, laughing and nearly wretching at the terrible flavors. Vomit, beetle, mold, fungus, all kinds of disgusting flavors.
"This one looks like Toffee," Rose said as she examined a bean. She popped it in her mouth and began to chew.
But a moment later her face turned green as she spat the Bertie Bott's Every Flavor Bean on to the carpeted floor.
"Gross!" she exclaimed. "I think that was dog droppings!"
The two laughed about that a while, and Rose started eating her chocolate frog as a way to rid her tastebuds of the terrible taste of dog poop.
"Hey, babies," James appeared at the door, clad in robes. "I'm not here to babysit you, but you should change into your robes soon. We're nearly at Hogwarts!" Then James disappeared as suddenly as he had come....

When the train jolted to a stop, the slam of compartment doors and the noisy chatter of of the other children could be heard. When Albus and Rose stepped off the train, they both ran straight for Hagrid who stood near the boats that would take them the castle.
"Hagrid! Hagrid!" they screamed as they hugged him around the knees.
"How are my favorite first years?" he said laughing. "Ooops! I shouldn't have said that!" Hagrid shooed them away, and still laughing, buised himself by helping the other young boys and girls into the wooden canoes tied to the platform.

Hagrid paddled them across the lake and Rose trailed her fingers in the water, marveling at the natural beauty of it. She smiled at the ripples her petite finges created.
In no time at all, the children and Hagrid had arrived at Hogwarts Castle. The first years oohed and ahed at the amazing structure that would be there home for many years to come.

"Did you know that gillyweed lets..." Rose carried on, buzzing with excitement, while Albus stood, occasionally nodding to satisfy Rose.
"What's wrong?" asks Rose, noticing Albus's expression.
"Nothing."
"Did your wand get thrown by a gnome or munched by your Pygmy Puff?" Rose asks cheekily.
"I don't have a Pygmy Puff, for the last time, Rose." He started smiling, remembering his sister Lily's.
"Don't tell me, you're nervous, right?" Albus didn't answer. Just then, a loud noise startled them.

Tentatively, the first year rose and walked up to the seat where the hat sat.
"Hmm," said the hat, "Interesting. Slytherin? Maybe? You'd do well there."
Rose stiffened.
"no?" the hat seemed surprised. "Ravenclaw? No...
"Gryffindor!!" he shouted.
Filled with trekked and the sound of claps and cheers, Rose leaped fro. The stool and went to sit at the end of the table, where James let her in.
Several names were called.
"Rowena Sturling"
"Jay RonBrotsers."
"Sam Bradsburth."
And, finally:
"Albus Severus Potter."
Albus stiffened. He didn't move.
Again, McGonnagal called. "Albus Severus Potter."
Gathering his courage, Albus stepped up to the stand.
Silence.
"Let's see..." Said the hat. "Huffepuff? No...
"Gryffindor!"
As the hall erupted with cheers, Albus smiled and breathed his relief. He joined James and Rose at the Gryffindor, sitting between his brother and best friend.
"Let's eat!" called McGonnagall.
And the food appeared on the table, much to Rose's amazement, and the whole room began to dig into the delicious food.

"Sorry for not seeing you before. Welcome to Hogwarts! I hope you don't meet Peeves today. He's in a rather bad mood. "
"Uh, hi," said Rose.
"Yeah, hi," Albus said, glancing sideways at Rose.
"I'm Frank Longbottom Junior. And here's..."
"Teddy!" Rose shouted, jumping out of her seat to hug him.
Teddy turned bashfully to Frank. "Frank, I'd like you to meet Rose Weasley, and Albus Potter."

Rose caught Albus' eye, trying to hide a smile. They both knew now that this huge boy was infact Neville's son, although he he grown nearly a foot since they'd last seen him and he now had a trace of stubble pn his once smooth face.
Teddy saw the looks of amusement in the eyes of the young first years and chuckled to himself, "Of course you know each other! Can't belive I forgot."
Rose looked up into Teddy's face and said smugly, "Anyway, Teddy, what were you doing on the platform earlier with Victoire?"
At this the two first years burt into giggles and Teddy's face turned slightly pink. "Ahh ... you saw that ... well ... erm ..." He stumbled over his words, all the time turning a deeper shade of crimson.

I'll start.
Let's see....
It was humid outside at King Cross Station. The rain from the day and night before and today's relentless sunshine had left the air hot and muggy.
Rose's shirt stuck to her back. She hardly noticed, however: for she was now on her way to Platform 9 3/4, where she would board the Hogwarts Express. She could hardly wait.
After listening to Albus Severus's older brother, James Potter, go on and on about the great school, she could hardly contain her excitement.
"Mum," she said, "isn't this where we go through?"
Rose, her Mum, Hermione, her dad, Ron, her younger brother, Hugo, and the Potter family, were standing before a thick brick wall.
"Well, it is between platform nine and platform ten," Albus Severus said nervously.
"Oh come on, Albus, don't be such a wet blanket," teased James.
"Here goes!" cried Rose as she barreled into the wall, expecting to be injured as she collided with the wall.
But when no such collision came, she opened her eyes wide in surprise.
Rose was standing in a very similar station, but the train resting on the tracks was red and black and bore the words: "Hogwarts Express".
With a grin, she awaited the arrival of the others.
She didn't have long to wait. Soon her friends and family was through the wall and onto Platform 9 3/4. Hugo looked frightened.
Smoke rose in a cloud from the gleaming express.
"Wow," Albus Severus and Rose whispered.
It was almost time for the train to leave the station. Rose clutched her ragged suitcase so tightly that her knuckles became as white as a fresh sheet of parchment. In her free hand she carried her owl, Samson*, in his cage.
After saying her goodbyes to her family, she began to board the train.
Everyone began to move forward, to the edge of the platform.
"I'm going to tie my shoe," muttered Albus Severus as he crouched down at the wall. Really he just wanted an excuse for more time. He was so worried.
Seeing his son pretending to tie his shoelaces, and recognizing the expression on his face, Harry went back to Albus.
"What if i'm put in Slytherin?" Albus's lip quivered.
"Albus Severus," Harry said. "You were named after two great headmasters, one of which was a Slytherin, and he was the bravest man i have ever known."
Albus nodded. He was still worried, though. "But..."
"Listen," said Harry. "If you tell the sorting hat what you want, he will take your opinion into account."
"He will?"
"He did for me," Harry assured him. "Now, get going. You don't want to miss the train."
And as Albus saw his father smiling through one eye, and Rose waving at him from a compartment window on the express, he knew that he really didn't want to miss that train.
