Aerindel | 3 comments A spaceship searching for asteroids to mine travels into deep space using a series of jump buoys and finds an asteroid belt that is rich in gold (I think) as they begin mining operations they find a petrified humanoid skeleton with angel wings. Members of the crew being to hallucinate and at one point they find that the skeleton, still mostly encased in rock, has mysteriously moved. Somehow they learn that the asteroid belt is the remains of a planet that was destroyed because of some kind of evil force and that angel skeleton is a remnant of that force and is trying to escape the ruins.

No, thats not it. And yes, I would still like to find this book if anyone has any idea's So frustrating, I can see the cover in my mind, just not the author or title and can remember many details from the books.

Can you describe the cover?

When did you read this? Is it adult or YA? Was it a paper book, ebook, online format, other?

Novel or short story?

If you've got impressions of the cover (or any other details at all) please add that info to your thread. Sometimes the small seemingly insignificant detail is the one that jogs someone's memory and gets a book found.

Bargle | 1758 comments I seem to remember seeing a book cover with an angel type figure skeleton on it, but I didn't read the book, so I don't remember the title.

Justanotherbiblophile | 1814 comments "Angel type figure skeleton" means.... bird bones attached to a humanoid? Wing bones are pretty small bones. Or was it like an Archaeopteryx with the impressions of a wing (in a rock matrix, perhaps?) as well as some extra bones? Was there a grayish (brown, black, etc) rock, tunnel, or was the skeleton suspended in space (ie: just a skeleton) on the cover, no other background?

IIRC, it was normal human skeleton with large, bird-like wings embedded in a rock. I'm not at all certain of my memory, though. I think I saw it as one of the selections when I was a member of the Science Fiction Book Club.

Steven H | 5 comments I think that's - The Space Vampires by Colin Wilson.

Sounds exactly the same premise. Find a bat like alien in asteroid field.

Aerulan | 1317 comments here's the link for Steven's suggestion The Space Vampires

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments I read The Space Vampires and I don't remember any of this.

I remember Mathilda May in the movie, though.
