Kyra My pet peeves in books are insta-love, shallow, whiny main characters and a plot that goes nowhere. Yesterday I read a book which was written by one of my favourite authors, but I seriously had to make myself finish it, in hope it would get better. It didn't. The main character was selfish, cheated on her boyfriends (yep, she had two and was flirting with Tommy Sullivan as well) and was a liar. Absolutely nothing happened in the story, all that happened was her making out with guys. The ending was predictable and I didn't enjoy it. So, what are your pet peeves when reading a book?

Roselyn (roselyn_writes) My pet peeves are insta-love, predictable plot, un-relateable characters, and stereotypes

Same here :)

Rebekah (rebekahc) Insta-love absolutely! Something is I like to call the "Glossing Situation" where characters have been torn apart for a long time and they are finally re-united but the chapter changes and you never know how they got each up to speed. SURELY THEY WOULD HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO SAY?!

Tara (hey_tara) Totally agree with instalove - and I know what you mean about glossing situations - loving the term for it though!

I also hate love triangles at the moment - mainly because I really think they've been overdone in YA by now.

I know, sometimes they work, other times...no, just no.

Rebekah (rebekahc) "No, just no" That is such a good description for it! Normally followed by a sigh haha

Haha thanks! :) I know right!

Rachel S (rachelsh) Insta-love, weak heroines who always need saving, books that have way too much detail, slow pacing and a boring plot that doesn't really have any twists or turns... ;)

Beth (BethatPage-turner) | 13 comments Insta-love defiantly, and I also don't like disappointing endings, annoying main characters and a slow pace (especially at the beginning because I love endings that hook into the story from the first few pages:))

Totally agree with you and Rachel! I don't mind it if a story doesn't grip me from the start but then it must grip me soon after! Xxx

Valerie Mcqueen | 1 comments My pet peeve is for an author to announce too many characters into the plot and not give them enough substance to be there. It seems crowded and you never see any purpose for even the introduction and then they vanish from the plot. To me it is distracting ....

Just one thing to say. When the author kills my favourite character. Not looking at anyone *cough* Susan Collins *cough*

Hehe! When I read Divergent, quite a few characters were killed off and I was like "NOOOOOO" >.<
