I'm not sure you can get past not having Ray Lewis. Their defense just doesn't look like a Ravens defense. But then the Steelers were having terrible problems last night. Could not believe the number of dropped balls! But the Saints won - so it's all good!!

I used to figure the Ravens would be a "gimme" win almost every week; now, I'm not so sure. The defense without Lewis needs some serious help.

And it's not just the Steelers who are having issues this year. Seems almost every team is having problems of some kind. I can't remember a more unpredictable season!

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Is everyone ready for another crazy day in football? Some exciting games on for today - Cowboys vs. Giants, Steelers vs. Redskins, Brees vs. Peyton. Fun fun fun!!!

message 269: by Barb (last edited Oct 28, 2012 09:51AM) (new)

Barb As if this season isn't crazy enough, add in the strange weather today -- it's just starting to rain here, so any games on the east coast are likely to be rainy, sloppy messes, which will definitely affect some of these games!

In addition to the Ravens losing Ray Lewis for the season, it's going to hurt the Cowboys to have lost Sean Lee for the season as well. Something to keep in mind when choosing the winners of remaining games :)

Yep. I picked Patriots this week, and I kept thinking I had to change to a west coast game until I figured out they're not in US at all! Happy now. :D

Christie | 24 comments I just updated week nine...I hope all weathered the storm well...I also have a question I see that some people are using multiple extra points...I was wondering if we were aloud one or more that one extra point?

message 274: by Barb (new)

Barb I haven't been paying attention to anyone's updates but my own, so I haven't noticed that, Christie, but I was under the impression that we can only use one per game.

message 275: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (cheriereads) You can read as many extra points as you like as long as the main task that you chose is complete. You can complete the same task more than once for extra points as long as you read a different book each time.

You can also go back to finished games and read extra points. They don't have to be for the current week's games. You have until Superbowl Sunday to rack up as many points as you can (or want to).

I also want to apologize to you all. I know I have not been keeping up with this thread very well. We had to deal with storm Sandy here and then I had to fill in at my old job for some people who were out. I'll be working today to update game results and the point totals.

Ohhhhh ... thanks for explaining that, Cherie!

"I also want to apologize to you all. I know I have not been keeping up with this thread very well. We had to deal with storm Sandy here and then I had to fill in at my old job for some people who were out. I'll be working today to update game results and the point totals."

No worries here. We all know that real life takes priority, even though it often gets in the way of our fun here :)

Barbara ★ Question on Week #11. Sorry but I'm not a football person so don't know how to double check this.

schedule says:

Sunday, November 18
Packers @ Lions
Cardinals @ Falcons
Buccaneers @ Falcons

Is this correct?

message 281: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (cheriereads) Definitely NOT correct! lol Sorry about that. I'll fix it now.

message 282: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (cheriereads) Ok, it's all fixed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention Barbara!

The Buccaneers are playing the Panthers in Week 11.

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Updated Post #10

48 Points through Week 7

This should be correct, Cherie. I'm thinking about you as you struggle with the aftermath of Sandy. As a Katrina survivor, I know how you feel.

message 285: by Barb (new)

Barb I want to smack some of the folks around here who are *still whining that they lost power for several hours last week. Ummm... have you seen the news? Do you know that there are people who are STILL without power .. and food, water, heat, dry/clean clothes .. whose homes and businesses are totally destroyed? Yeah, I know, you have little kids to entertain -- so do a lot of these folks, and they're in a lot worse circumstances than you were!! Give me a break *siiiiigh*

Teresa (teresainohio) 4. The Browns have 16 Hall of Fame players. Read a book with a character whose name matches one of the players (first or last): Paul Brown, Jim Brown, Joe Lemielleure, Len Ford, Frank Gatski, Otto Graham, Lou Groza, Gene Hickerson, Leroy Kelly, Dante Lavelli, Mike McCormack, Bobby Mitchell, Marion Motley, Ozzie Newsome, Paul Warfield, Bill Willis

5. Pick a set of initials matching one of the players above and read a book whose title includes words that begin with those letters.
Example: If the initials were J.K. you could use the book With Just One Kiss

Just want to make sure, I got this right,

does this book work My Life in Black and White for this name Bobby Mitchell

Christie | 24 comments Yeah Peyton is doing well...too bad his brother is not..now to just pick the books

message 296: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) Yes, Eli is definitely struggling. He has never been my favorite of the Mannings. As long as Peyton continues to do well until after the game I've picked them to win, I'm good!!
And the Saints are back on track - WHO DAT!!

message 297: by Chaitra (last edited Nov 17, 2012 06:01PM) (new)

Chaitra (chaitra_ganesh) | 180 comments Oops, I've been out of this one. I have been updating on my own private group regularly with the task, but I just noticed that we can do more than one extra task. Aieee. I've read about 50 books from the beginning of the challenge! Now the OCD in me is going to want to fit those books into every possible task. lol.

Cherie, is that ok?? I did not read anything wrong, did I? It wouldn't be the first time...

message 298: by Christie (new)

Christie | 24 comments I updated this week...I wanted to do something different so I picked the Texans and I want to read a Western and a book based in Texas...I just have to figure out what they will be lol...

message 299: by ~Leslie~ (new)

~Leslie~ (akareadingmachine) I just finished an amazing western. It's not my favorite genre, but this one was recommended to me and I needed it for a challenge.
The book is Texas Destiny (Texas Trilogy, #1) by Lorraine Heath . A beautiful story. I can highly recommend it.

I read and enjoyed Thunder and Rain earlier this year. It's definitely set in Texas, and the main character is described as "a modern day cowboy," so it would probably qualify as a western too.
