Gert | 5 comments Hi, Im new here, this might be a dumb question :) I did a search though and found no answer..

The Paranoia A1 The Computer is your Friend book is offered in Kindle, Epub, PDF, ... versions. The current version is for the kindle version, if I get the Goodreads way of things, there should be an "ebook" version too for the other formats.

This is exactly the same book, do I need to manually copy-paste all the info from the kindle version to the new ebook version? Or is there a "duplicate to other format" option?

Thanks :)

Krystal109 | 1086 comments You have to manually enter the information. If you click "Other Editions" and then "Add New Edition" it will only import the title and author. The rest still manually needs to be entered.

When you are done, you should also post it here to have it combined with the Kindle edition, since only librarians can do that.

There is an add new edition link, but it doesn't do much aside from pre-adding the Title and Author fields. Everything else needs to be written up again, and after the book is created then the two books need to be combined. To get to this link go to the "Other Editions" link on the book's page (you can cheat and just go from here) and click on the "add a new edition" link. It's on the right hand side of the page. Fill out the forms, and then combine it after creating the book.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments Oh, he's a librarian. yes you can combine it yourself. Just click "Combine Editions" and select the two books that match each other. You then click the "combine editions" at the top or bottom of the page.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments It's always better to ask questions so you don't end up making more work for yourself or someone else.

Feel free to ask any questions on this group.

Gert | 5 comments Thats what I figured :)

btw, apparently there is no need to set a description for each version as you can set a default description for a book that is then used for all editions unless overridden by a specific description. Nice!

message 8: by Krystal109 (new)

Krystal109 | 1086 comments If you do NOT fill a field it will take the info from the default edition when you combine it.

The only time you may NOT want this, is if you want to add the description from your book exactly from the back cover or dust jacket. Since some editions change the descriptions.

I will manually enter the description for books I own rather than use the default one that is usually provided from another editions publisher. This way I know it is accurate to THAT editions.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments Oh yea and sometimes someone will change the default description.

Say someone enters the Indonesian description and then clicks the default description tag. Now all the English versions set to use the default description will be in Indonesian.

Yes, I have seen this happen.

Gert | 5 comments good point.
Though the books Im looking at right now are literally the same, so this is one probably rare occasion where I'd want to leave the default. (?)

message 11: by Krystal109 (new)

Krystal109 | 1086 comments Sure. It all depends on how accurate you want your edition to be. Some people want the exact info in their book. Some people go, "The default looks good. I will just use that".

It's just extra work to write in the description that a lot of people don't want to do, which is totally fine. The default is better than none.

Gert | 5 comments I guess the default could change & that might make it incorrect for a different edition using the default. Good point again :)
