Well, that looks like it's already sorted! Now for GR to do a bit of cleanup... :)

You'd hate it here in AU where we often see the same commercial EVERY commercial break. Thank god for AppleTV...

One reason why I watch mostly BBC here in the UK - no advert breaks. Anything on other channels I try to record and watch later so I can skip the adverts.
It's difficult to be critical of others pimping their books (I removed a critical comment I posted about it on a group just the other day as I felt I was a bit harsh and possibly slightly hypocritical) - I'm not entirely sure I can say with all honesty that I wouldn't do the same if I wrote a book... certainly when I was more active on flickr and other sites I used to insert my own photos into discussions more that I probably needed to! Self-promotion is a subject that would benefit from clearer guidance but not something that's going to be easy to police unless you make very solid guidelines that are clear to follow.
Maybe the admins are happy to just let things run fairly free-form though?

That's why I broached the suggestion of deleting the quotes no users have liked. You wouldn't need to access the combine page to do that, just edit each quote individually, which would take a long time but would probably be a little cathartic! It would also cut his number of quotes in half, at least, so maybe the system could manage loading the combine page then?

Yes, as I've mentioned before I always have trouble filtering by similar when combining quotes where the author has more than a couple hundred. However, this is the only author that times out when trying to access the main combine page, before that step. Kind of a problem, since then you can't even manually search for similar quotes to combine, meaning the amount can't be whittled down except by deleting.

That would be REALLY NICE of them.

I'm assuming my "books" you mean 'quotes'? :)

If anyone but author picks and chooses—starts setting off the censorship alarms that just deleting wholesale doesn't.
Or else gr should just delete 'em and put a quote in their place that says "error xxx Gateway timeout yyy generated quotes exceeded capacity"

That would be REALLY NICE of them."

Lol. Yea.

He's up to 12,000 of his own quotes now. Surely that has to be against some kind of policy. It certainly makes me far less likely to visit the GR quote pages, and use other websites instead, which is a shame because it's otherwise a great resource.
