Ashley So many people died in the Hunger Games Series. The Three that were most tragic for me were

1) Mags
2) Cinna
3) Finnick

Prim was also tragic, but someone spoiled Mockingjay for me.
Mags was the most tragic for me because she died for the Cause. But the description in the book was what got me the most. "She ran into the rain did a dance and just dropped." I'm not a crier, but this almost had me in tears.
I feel like Cinna's character was so strong, and when they killed him off, he still remained, with the inside jokes, the references, and that notebook that he drew all of his designs in, and Katniss took credit for. But I think they killed Cinna right before Katniss was sent into the arena to shake up Katniss, and make sure she died. The Games was the only place left they could kill her without looking too guilty.
Finnick's death was very hard on me simply because he had just got married, and he was an awesome character that I loved, and shortly after they over-through the capital, Annie was pregnant.

So what deaths were most tragic for you? Why?

message 2: by Kaitlin (new) - added it

Kaitlin Rue's and Cinna's were the most tragic for me, because I just love those characters, btw you might want to add a spoiler alert in the title for this disscussion

message 3: by Cat (new) - rated it 2 stars

Cat Mags was horrible because she died so they could go, and at the time Katniss didn't even know the full reason. Rue to wasn't good, I knew she had to die, but...
not like that
Finnick was a heart breaker, mainly for me it was the simple fact that he could have made it, but the story just didn't work out that way...
Cinna to was just sad, but he died for a reason. He died for spreading a message throughout the Capitol, he really started the Mockingjay. He was such a good character as well but you could see he died for his cause and good came from it.

Melissa For me, Cinna's death was the most impactful, because he was a martyr for the cause, and his fingerprint was on everything going forward. His was also particularly horrific because you knew, as he was being dragged away, that he would not be coming back, no matter the early optimism Katniss had.

You know, I guess I just didn't care about Rue. And when Prim died, I felt like my time had been wasted (I didn't particularly care about her character much, either. She just wasn't developed enough for me).

Nicki Cinna was a tough one because Katniss was so strongly connected to him. Mags was sad, but it was in a noble way. Rue was terribly sad, but a necessary evil to help spark that fire in Katniss.

Prim's death was catastrophic though, to Katniss and therefore to me (since it was first person reading you kind of "become" the character). Prim was the whole reason Katniss did anything.

But each and every death, from Cato to Coin, had an impact on her and the ending. Each one was necessary and tragic.

Alex In my opinion, Finnick's death was the hardest because he is such a lovable character, but Cinna's death also really affected me because there wasn't much time spent on it.
I also would have prefered to see more of a reaction from Katniss regarding almost every death.

tiffany rues Cinnas and Finick oh also mags

Yaoifan365 I cried when Cinna died. He was my favorite character. It was worse that it was in front of Katniss. It was soooo sad :'(

Tori Cinna's death annoyed me because they never actually confirm it. Ever. The last time we see Cinna he's being dragged away (unconscious, I believe) and...that's it. In the third book they talk about trying to find out what happened to him, but they never get any solid information either way. I just found it so annoying as he was a major character and Collins just kind of brushed his death aside.

Nicki I don't think she brushed it aside. The story is being told in first person so she can't know everything. I assumed he was dead, just like Katniss did. With the way that the ending went down I imagine that digging for information wasn't her priority

Colette Sheaff For me Finnicks death was the worst. The way he died was just so horrible. They could hear him but couldn't save him.In the beginning i didn't really like Finnick but knowing about Anne and all of that changed my thought.
