August 15-21: HC pages 195 (January 19, 2001) through 283 (March 3, 2001)

Okay. I haven't finished reading the selection for week 3 yet so I can't post the questions yet.

However! I was reading last night and had some thoughts.

I started reading about Celia and how Eva couldn't keep Franklin and Celia. It made me wonder why not? Was it because Eva was found guilty of raising Kevin to do what he did? Then I thought, what if Celia and Franklin are dead? Does anyone else think this is a possibility? Is Eva even sending these letters to Franklin or is she writing them as a type of journal?

Anyway. Those are some of the thoughts I had last night. LOL!

Lori | 23 comments Maranda I am totally on the same page as you. I think that's why I sped through Week 3's reading. I just don't get it, why their separation left Celia with Franklin when he does not cherish Celia as much as he does Kevin and vice versa for Kevin and Eva. I've had the nagging feeling from the begging that Franklin and now Celia might be dead because how is it that only one parent would be called to testify at their son's trial for mass murder when both parents were present in his life up until at least age 14. However, we don't know for sure that Franklin did not testify as Eva might not have revealed that just yet.

The other side is that she got extremely defensive when Kevin made a joke about Franklin and how he acted as a father. And Eva had to go and tell Franklin's parents about Thursday. Why is it that she would essentially have to do all of the dirty work, from paying the restitution to informing in-laws of what their grandchild did. I understand that divorces can be messy but this would take the cake if Franklin severed ties with both his son, whom he obviously adores and protects from any bad word or thought thrown his way, and his wife to live with his daughter who he does not seem to have attached to very much at this point in the book.

I am anxious to finish this book now I want to know how this family breaks down and see what happens in the end, I'm guessing the end will be Kevin's move to the adult facility?

It could be worse...it could have been an e-reader! ;) You'll probably fly through the last part I know I did and Maranda told me the same.

Yes!!! The last 120 pages or so were so intense that you can't put down the book.
