Hi there. I am brand new to the Lost Challenges Group but definitely NOT new to challenges. I would love to be part of this team event.

Would someone give me an example of what would be posted as a weekly task and what books would meet that task. I kind of got lost on this point:

◈ Only one book may be claimed for each item of the week of the challenge but up to 4 items may be claimed from a book, (one of which must be the item of the week). If a team reads their books right it is possible to get all 32 items in 8 weeks and win the challenge.

Perhaps since this seems to be round 3 the other rounds are still up and I could look there? I'll try to find those to get an idea ahead of time so I will be up to speed!

Thanks Jenne. Another question. I mostly listen to books via my iPod. How would that work with this challenge? Would I mention that the word bridge or whatever the item is, is mentioned on Track 12 of cd 8? I looked at the archive and saw people mention page numbers.

It is sooooooo much easier to do than to explain. Look through some of the archives and let me know if this doesn’t handle all your concerns.
Let’s pretend Child is the item. You must find a book that has the word child in the title, a picture of a child on the cover or the word child mentioned anywhere in the text. Once you are done reading your post would look something like this.

Since child was called you must claim that 1 item, but then you can also claim 3 more, 1 from the place list, 1 from the thing list, 1 from the color list. It is easy to claim 4 items in the begining but as the game goes on and the list gets smaller it is harder to find a book with 4 specific items.

You can use whatever unit your format uses. page numbers, Kindle location, audio chapters, track/disk.

I guess I am feeling angst about signing up for this because of it being my first Team challenge. I don't want to be the one that holds back my team by being clueless.

I think I get it now but am wondering how the page # thing will work with the audiobooks I mostly listen to. I could always state that the word CHILD was read on track 3 of disc 6? Would that be acceptable?

Welcome Sheila. this is a fun group, so I am glad you will be joining us.

I listened to 2 of my books last round. Let's use the word "War", this is how I did it:

(Done 8/13, 4.5 stars)
War: “Another wolf might understand that a war with the vampires wasn’t going to save me, just get more people killed.” (Ch 3).

Chances are you will listen to a book that one of your teammates would have, so they can always look it up for you.
I know that Katya (my team captain) helped me when I ran into this issue on my Anita Blake book. Teammates are really helpful on the challenge, so never be afraid to ask for help or recommendations.

Sheila, depending on the books you're reading, another thing that could help is if someone on your team had an ebook version of your book that week. Last round, we found that the people who had ebooks were able to search out items after their read, and it would come back with page or chapter info. Don't stress about it too much, hun, your team will help heaps along the way.

Also pretty sure that Dawn, the legend, tries to make the teams so they've got a good mix of newbies and veterans :-)

That is perfectly fine. It isn't like I am going to track down everyone's books and say no no no that item isn't in the exact location you said, so you can't have a point. It is more so if other members want to read the book, they know where the item is.

I listen to audio books while driving and I am not doing to pull out a pen and write down exactly where it was mentioned or try to write out the whole sentence. Just a generalization of where it was found is good enough for me.

Hmmmm.... I wonder if I still will hold legend status if I admit to the group I used random.org to make teams and pick items and it has nothing to do with my amazingly awesomeness. Because I really am amazingly awesome.

The only way you will really hold your team back is if you can't get your book read and don't post a review. Your team and I will help you with everything else. If your review is missing something, we will help you get it there.

Well thank you Dawn. I am feeling much better about it. Reading and writing about the book won't be a problem. Reading is something I do a LOT of. It was really only the logistical thing about page # that was a concern but it sounds like I am good to go with the audiobooks.

And thanks for sharing some of your amazing awesomeness with me.

Sheila! I had NO IDEA what I had let myself in for last round, but had lots of help from the girls and really enjoyed myself! Dont sweat it, you'll be fine, it will fall into place as you play.
I didnt go looking for specific books last game, I had books I wanted to read and just used them ! I was lucky to get all the items. This round is a little harder, with having to find something from each group, so will probably have to be a bit more fussy about what I read.
