Looks like someone got 813. (Which isn't a deletion in any case.)

Hi. I've tried to merge two duplicate records of Swift Sterne, following the directions in the Librarian Manual. Now I find that both lists of owners (6 + 3 = 9) are combined in both records. This is my first try at doing this, so I may have slipped up somehow (I don't find the Manual instructions on this to be clear). I was expecting to be able to delete the record with only 3 owner/reviewers.

So I would like to ask a Super Librarian delete one of the records.

First you combine them (like you did). Then you delete the wrong edition to merge the reviews into the correct edition. I did this one.

Right, thank you. My surprise here was that the reviews were already merged without my having deleted anything. It happened overnight.

Combining allows all reviews for any edition of the book to be shown on each and every edition page of the work in question. The reviews are still mapped to the book they were added to, but they can be viewed on the other pages as well. Merging takes those reviews, moves them over and deletes the edition.

#825 is valid, but it had the wrong author and incomplete info...I updated it as much as I could.

You don't. If you need a duplicate deleted, you post it, here. If it's a book that is no longer available, we leave it in the database, so that readers who already have a copy can shelve it. If it's had a cover change, you can add an alternate cover edition, or we can.

Do you mean that you have it for sale on GR?

Please cancel the first two and combine the third. I'll add the isbn afterwards.

I think your question is how to delete the ebook's pdf file, not how to delete the listing of the book off of GR? Am I correct?

Yes, but the third has the cover image, description and all other data. I posted that I would add the isbn after. It's faster to add 2 numbers than everything else especially with GR being slow tonight.

#840 appear to be both valid hardcover editions, with valid isbn's, according to worldcat. The first one just appears to be missing the cover image and the publication date appears to need updating. (Done)

Looking at the difference in page numbers, one may be large print, or a library binding.

Edit: One appears to be a US release, one a UK release.

Ah ok, thanks! I have the book in my hands and it's massive so I assumed the one linked above (with a lot less page numbers) to be a very old edition that was added when the details had not been released yet :)

I have given up trying to understand page discrepancies. I'll own a book that is a tiny thing (say, Animal Farm), and then see a copy somewhere that is triple the size, and go What?! Or vice versa. All I know is, it happens. lol.

The edition you already added is the paperback. Someone added the kindle edition. I have combined them.

That one says it's a Kindle edition, your other one says it's a paperback. All editions are listed separately, so just because you added one version doesn't mean others can't add other versions. Unless you're saying your book is not available on Kindle?

It is available in ebook. I'd really only like one listing of it. Is it possible to merge the two?

Chelsea - We keep separate editions when books are available in multiple formats. However, reviews and ratings for both editions will be seen together (unless a member specifies to only see that editions copies).
