you are welcome....great tip Ezinwanyi!

What a painful experience.
Finished Friday13-7-2012
I totally lost track of the point of the story, because Faythe's sellfish spoilt brat attitude, just completely took over. I managed to finish it, but if it hadn't been a (double) challenge book I would have given up on it.
The basic storyline, is that Someone is kidnapping female werecats (Tabbies, who are a rarity.) Faythe is kidnapped and fights for her, and her cousin;s lives. Inbetween all this, is the romance between Faythe and Marc. In MHO Marc is way too good for the spoilt brat, and he should go find someone who truly loves him.
So. I have :tree, mythical creature, source of light and shoes See post 212. I was hoping beyond hope to find a uniform!

I hate books like that....they are promising and you invest time you will never get back and you have to feel like you are in English Lit class back in school. The important thing is you made it through and scored for the team!!!

Kathy, can you please put the name of the book and your date finished in the post with your review.
I felt the exact sameway about the book. It had such high reviews, I only finished it because of a challenge too.

write a brief review about your issues so the author will know and can improve.
I have read 3 indies books that a friend gave 5 star ratings and raved about the writing. She recommended them to me and said it is along the lines of what I would love to read.
It was hard for me to even finish the book. I gave the book a 2.5, which hurt the author's feelings.
She emailed me and i told her all of my issues. She thanked me and explained how she had been scouring goodreads for comments on her books. A few comments made her cry. I told that I don't say stuff like "this book is shitty" but I will say that the writing was slow or the transitions were poor etc.
The author has since pulled the book and hired a professional editor etc to improve the book based on the various suggestions that goodread reviews gave her.

I know there is lots of drama going around GR about authors getting thier feelings hurt but I belive that is part of any artistic process. You can't make everyone happy all of the time. In any book there are going to be people who love it and people who hate it. If you are willing to put your work out there, you have to be willing to take the comments about it good and bad.

Good grief! If you can't take criticism, (and keep in mind some people Do go stupidly over the top, authors and readers!) you shouldnt be in a profession where people can openly have their say! I have read stuff that critics(?) just shouldn't have said and have also read replies by indie and upcoming authors, that just should not be printed. A lot obviously said in the heat of the moment. But really we all have to remember that not everything suits everybody, were all different, and just because I've read shape shifters by one author doesn't mean I'm going to like them by another. Totally off track here!! lol.
There was absolutely nothing wrong with the story or the way in which it was written it was ALL the character. Her total selfish brattiness, just took over from what would have probably been a really good book. I mean at the end, she was more worried about how she looked with bruises on her face, that the fact that her friend/cousin? and fellow Tabby had been brutally murdered!

Not sure yet Kathy...I am sure it will be posted soon.
Sure looks like you are enjoying this challenge Kathy....are you glad I dragged you into this? LOL

Im off to bed! night,

When this session ends you should post a recommendation to have the book selected 12 hours earlier so that folks in your part of the world can take advantage of it. I know I do alot of reading on the weekend and not so much during the week.

OR. The Laughing Corpse

I am reading the Night Huntress book and listening to the Anita Blake on audio. I will see which book has more of the items I'm missing.

I am also considering reading Nightwalker instead of Night Huntress. I bought it on Friday for 99cents on amazon. It has a graveyard on the cover.

Finished: 7/15/12
Pages: 487
Book Format: Hardcover
Rating 5/5 stars
Items: Bridge, uniform, holiday (Halloween), shoe
Proof Of Items:
She held on to both Jason and Helen, as if she was trying to use her arms to bridge the gap between them. (Page 72)
The girls' track uniforms were soaked through, and they hovered expectantly by Noel with excited looks on their faces while they dabbed at themselves with towels. (Page 23-24)
She hauled herself out of bed and noticed that her shirt was nearly torn off, there were odd sticks and dead leaves tangled in her hair, and she lost a shoe. (Page 167)
Halloween morning was overcast and gloomy, just like it should be. (Page 331)
Review/Thoughts:
This was an amazing book! I love anything Greek mythology so it was no surprise I was going to enjoy this book. This was an amazing book! There was enough action to keep you on your toes! For the characters, I love and hated so of them. Lucas remains my most favorite characters of this series even though he was going through some stuff in this book, he still cared enough for Helen.

"This is a weekend getaway?
Well, Duh! Read the next sentence!!
"This is our vacation, Kitten. "
Sounds like a holiday to me!!

(n.) A fortified place; a large and permanent fortification, sometimes including a town; a fort; a castle; a stronghold; a place of defense or security.
Dawn will you accept it for castle?

I am thinking that this passes for castle. let's see what Dawn thinks.

"This is a weekend getaway?

"This is our vacation, Kitten. "
Sounds like a holiday to me!!"
I hadn't thought about this but I think what Dawn thought when she created Holiday she meant it in the American sense of the word based on other posts in other groups. You know-Christmas, Easter and those types of things. And she may not have taken it to mean the British sense...to go on vacation. Again, let's see what she thinks of this.

Okay, I took your suggestion Katya and changed tree to uniform only because it will give me an excuse to finally read Dearly, Departed finally with the tree on the cover.

But it doesn't hurt to ask, because my family also calls vacation/getaways "holidays" as well.
Also Kathy, this book is free on Amazon kindle and has a cemetary on the cover if you are interested in reading it. Fire Burn and Cauldron Bubble by H. P. Mallory

@Amy: Was Dealy Departed good? They have it at my library available for people to borrow? I kind of looked at it last week, but I didn't take it? should I go borrow it?
Thanks and way to get your book done!

But it doesn't hurt to ask, because my family also calls vacation/getaways "holidays" as well...."
I have not read it yet. I did try reading like a month or so ago, but my mind wasn't in it so I want to try and give the book another try because a lot of people said the book starts out slow, but gets good somewhere in this book.

"This is a weekend getaway?
Well, Duh! Read the next sentence!!
"This is our vacation, Kitten. "
Sounds like a holiday to me!!"
Katya was right my initial thought was a specific singular day. But I encourage thinking outside the box. I've heard vacations called holiday. It just never occured to me. I say it should count.

(n.) A fortified place; a large and permanent fortification, sometimes including a town; a fort; a castle; a stronghold; a pla..."
How ironic, I was going to look up the definition of caastle to see how specific it was to see if I could claim "palace". The definition I looked up claims fortress and palace as synonyms, therefore I think they both shall count.

I just realized that it will be hard to quote an audio book if I hear the word "graveyard". but I know Anita Blake will have that word somewhere in Book 2. I just know it.

As for Fortress, it was funny, Cat and Bones are in the middle of the ocean and Cat makes the comment about the fortress, and I thought where is he going to find a castle in the middle of nowhere!! Then realized I needed a castle!
Scavenge hunts are not as easy as they sound, I've been doing another one for months now, we change the items regularly, and people are always asking for clarification (as Dawn will know) of items, because our personal thoughts are all so different.
Thanks again Dawn appreciate your wisdom!

Are you doing the Challenge Factory one too?
