Tarnished (The St. Croix Chronicles, #1)
by Karina Cooper (Goodreads Author)
***\Finished July 5th
An engaging read, if a bit of a magpie stew of plots and characters. The heroine is a Miss with a past and present. One of the heroes is Ton with a secret the other a ring master in a pleasure circus. There are mad scientists, ripper like killers, steam punk backdrops. Servants with secrets, unseen guardians with secrets .. did I mention secrets???

Darkness Devours (Dark Angels #3)
by Keri Arthur
****
Finished July 8th
There are at very least two plots running through this series -- The hunt for the keys to heaven and hell involving Risa's father (not so much in play in this book)
and the work Risa took on for the vampire council as part of a deal to find and punish her mother's killer.
The Vampire council plot predominates in this book. Risa travels through the dark paranormal clubs and streets of Melbourne to hunt for vampire killers on Hunter's orders. There are also the romance plots with the reaper and others (well this is a Keri Arthur book) Book is fast paced and a good read.

Good Job!! :D

I think I'll be reading A Discovery Of Witches

It's been on my bookshelves for months but I just haven't found the motivation to start it..

For this shelf I will be reading

I'm about a third of the way though and I'm really enjoying it. I can see why the ladies at my local bookstore were raving about it.

Was it one of those books that had a 'token' person for each personality category? One princess, one brain, one jock, etc.... Is that what made you reference The Breakfast Club?

Review:
There's a lot that I loved about this book. The setting for one. The characters for another. And I liked the plot - it was interesting and exciting.
Witches and Vampires and Daemons! Oh My!
It's a long book and I sort of forgot what had happened in the start by the time I got to the end - and they sort of feel like very different books in a way. Diana and Matthew have completely changed and mellowed a lot.
The supporting characters I liked probably more than I liked the main two. I hope we get to see a lot more of them in the future books - especially the Bishop House.

The Devil You Know (Felix Castor, #1)
by Mike Carey
which I have also finished -- blurbs coming

I have that problem with the Dark Hunters too! All those big baddies are just hiding until someone weaker than them gets defeated and then they come along... ?
I've got a copy of Infinity sitting on my desk just waiting for me to get around to reading it... I've always been a Nick Gautier fan but I've been wary about reading it because I'm not sure if I'd like a young adult series about him...

Review: For some reason this one took eternity to get through and I don't know why. I also have owned this book for years and have put it in a challenge or 'TBR' list half a dozen times and couldn't force myself to do it. I would shange at the last minute. The weird thing is, I really liked it and thought that it was fairly well done. I'm even going to keep reading the series but jeesh! What is my deal here? I think it is that this reminds me (a tiny bit) of the beginings of Anita Blake and right now I don't like her much. Transference ya think? :)

I think I'll read Shiver for this week.

by Annette Blair (Goodreads Author)

Finished July 20
Lately Annette Blair has been really inconsistent in both the quality and the tone of her books. Sadly this one is on the down side. A cozies crew badly mashed up with a thriller, and a little girl lost plot. There are ghosts, spys and clowns.

The Devil You Know (Felix Castor, #1)
by Mike Carey

finished july 25th
Felix Castor is a freelance exorcist on a mental health break. He is working kids parties for money. Kids parties ??? The book has a fast plot, good characters and a tone reminiscent of early Jim Butcher.
I already have the next few in the series. Looking forward to them.

Felix sounds fun! Mental health break. LOL.

Review: Even though this one only earned two and a half stars from me, I do have to admit that this one was actually better than the last. In some parts. I did like Azazel's character more than Raziel in general and the memory issue with Rachel was interesting. I was wondering at the cause of it and whether it was self induced or not for some time. The taking Rachel to the Truth Finders though was the apex of stupid plot devices if you ask me. The author spent tons of time on this aspect (which was a totally contrived part) but then spent no time on how the characters actually got over their emotional issues. One scene, it's a problem; the next, nothing, BAM! Really? *sigh* Oh well, I still do like the premise of these stories and the concept of how they came to be. If the next actually fits into a challenge or something I might read it but I am expecting some big improvements. :)

Review:Here's an example of you get what you deserve. I knew this book would be complete rubbish but still, STILL, I read the thing! The last few have been atrocious so why should I hope/assume that this might be better? Hope springs eternal I guess! Lord that was painful.
If you haven't started this series yet, just say NO! the first 7 or 8 are really good, they start to deteriorate after that. Past about number 12 or 13, they are just garbage. Save yourself....'cause poor sots like me don't seem to be able to!

The last was definetely the worst. After all those years and all that waiting...(view spoiler)

No worries but thanks. :)
I am going to read a few other things to wash the taste of that AB book out of my mouth so to speak. I've got some fun stuff at home. Yeah!
How are your reads going ladies?

In this one Alex and her friend Rianna open Tounges for the Dead Investigations. Business is slow at first. Until the wife of the man who just jumped off a building shows up to hire them. But this shade is different he has no memory prior to the 3 days before his death. Alex needs to figure out if it is a virsus or some different sort of magic causing the memory loss. The love triangle with the farie, Falin who is bound to the winter queen and Death, who she is forbidden any contact with, is still there. Overall I liked this book and will continue to read this series.

I really like this series. In this book we finally find out what kind of a demon Ryan is. Even if we still don't know what Ryan did to get cast out of the demon world. Much to my disappointment Rhyzkahl does not show up very much. Ms. Rowland always keeps you guessing on who the killer is and this time was no different. I love how everything is not obvious. The cliff hangers yeah she's good with that too. I can't wait to find out what happens to Kara.
