Review:
A group of high school students spend a few days camping in the Australian bush. When they return home, they find their homes deserted, the country invaded and their families in POW camps. We never find out who the invaders were, which would have been interesting, but maybe Marsden saved that bit of information for one of the next books in the series.
The story concentrates on eight friends and their reactions to what has happened. They wonder if they should hide out, surrender or start fighting the invaders. There are action scenes and moments of bravery and friendship.
Ellie, the narrator, who is tasked by her friends to write down the groups adventures is not my particular favourite. Not because of anything she did, as she is really quite a very brave girl with some interesting thoughts, but because too often her writing becomes a personal diary for her boyfriend issues. I had actually hoped that this would be a book without too much emphasis on teenage love, but no, love triangle alarm! Granted it's a bit more realistic than many others out there, but hey Ellie, you're writing this for your friends and they won't be too interested in your deep thoughts on love and snogging sessions in the hay.
Anyway, all up this was a good enough start to a series and I'll probably pick up #2 from the library eventually.

Not sure what I will read yet. Can't believe nobody has a bingo yet...we still have a chance.
Cristina: Have fun shopping! :)

Review: I had fun reading this book. Cassie is avoiding claiming the power of Pythia, while almost everyone wants her use her powers to their benefit and the rest are trying to kill her. The action felt non-stop, with Cassie jumping from one dangerous situation to the next. I also think Karen Chance has created a very interesting world and cast of characters. There were only a few things that bothered me about the story.
First, I know Cassie doesn't want to be Pythia, viewed as a pawn in the war between different para-factions. But, more than once she acknowledges that the other choices for Pythia can't be trusted. Also, not claiming the power isn't lengthening her life or making her safer since it won't go to anyone else until she's dead. It reached the point that I thought Cassie was needlessly endangering her life in order to assert control and deny the power.
Secondly, Pritkin. Okay, he's been lied to by the Circle about Cassie. And, her upbringing might cause someone who didn't know her to question her morals. But I still have a hard time believing someone who's survived as long as he apparently has and reached his position with the Circle would be so quick to jump to wrong conclusions (constantly) and ignore/forget any evidence to the contrary. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a comment on his likeability. I just think it creates an unrealistic sense of gullibility in Pritkin's character.
Overall I really enjoyed the book and I'll definitely be reading book 3.

Review: I’m so glad Jeaniene Frost wrote the Night Huntress World books. I love the world of Cat and Bones, but it was really fun getting to know a little more about some of the other characters from the original Night Huntress series. This book features Spade and Denise. Spade was an intriguing, mysterious character in the Night Huntress series. We really didn’t know much about him, except that he was a best friend of Bones, and that they had been together for a long, long time. His background story is finally revealed, and I loved his character in this book-even more than Bones I think. Denise, on the other hand, I was a little disappointed in-and I had such high hopes for her story. In the Night Huntress series she was Cat’s best friend, who never seemed to mind being in and around Cat’s world. In this new series, she suddenly turned into a wimpy, weak, frail girl who was scared of her own shadow. I understand that (view spoiler) , but I don’t think she had to be quite so scared, as a result of it. And it was a little unbelievable that Spade would be attracted to someone like that. She did try to redeem herself in the end, but at that point in the story, even that was a little unbelievable for me. Overall, I did enjoy the story though, and will continue to read the next installment to the series.["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

I'm still not quite sure what to read for this shelf, but will hopefully figure it out soon.

Review
This book has been on my TBR list for awhile, with me constantly putting off reading it because for some reason, I tend to have a hard time getting into books with male leads. I'm so glad I decided to finally see what all the fuss was about with this series!
One nice thing is this book doesn't suffer from "1st book syndrome," where so much world building is going on that the plot suffers. On the contrary, I thought the plot flowed very well, and rarely slowed.
I loved all the different characters, especially Oberon, with his desire to be the Genghis Kahn of dogs with a harem of French poodles, and Widow MacDonaugh, who likes to go to church mellow (aka slightly tipsy). Atticus won my love as well with his references to Tarantino and Monty Python, although I did lower the rating a bit because some of his antics (in particular, the "wedgie" scene in the ambulance) seemed a bit immature for someone who's 2,000 years old.
All in all, I had a great time reading this book and look foward to reading the next!

Reveiw: I thought Rosemary and Rue and A Local Habitation were a wonderful introduction to McGuire's fascinating universe and I especially enjoyed the cross between Urban Fantasy & Mystery, so I was really looking forward to this book. I feel slightly let down and not because the mystery element was gone. We know almost from the start who is responsible for the missing children and this book is all about October's mission to return them to their parents. Something else was off for me and even though the action was pretty constant, there were a few times I found myself silently urging Toby to just get on with it already and finish the job.
Toby also seemed to be alone for much of the mission. She kept jumping in and out of conversations/interactions with Lily, the Luidaeg, Quentin, Luna, Connor, May and Tybalt (I missed him the most), but for the most part this was a solitary journey for Toby. Maybe that's the reality of some PI's investigations, however it didn't really work for me in this book. Tybalt's few appearances seemed to be more of a setup for future events in the series and I wish he'd had more impact on this plot.
There were a few bright moments that I really enjoyed. May, Toby's fetch and personal omen of death, is an interesting (and funny) addition to the cast and I look forward to more from her in the future. The chase scene through the hills of San Francisco was hysterical and I wanted to go back and reread that bit almost as soon as I finished it.
Looking back at my review, it may not sound as if I didn't enjoy An Artificial Night and that's not the case at all. Overall, I liked the book. The problem is I fully expected to love it and just couldn't. I will definitely continue with the series.

Review:
I'm trying hard not to be apathetic about this story because I did like this book.
It had interesting characters and relationships, an interesting storyline and the beginnings of a hot werewolf/witch/vampire love triangle which normally would be a big plus for me.
I found the witchy parts to be (sometimes overly) detailed and well explained.
I liked it enough where I'll give the next one in the series a shot too, if nothing else to get some more hot pierced/tattooed werewolves in my life.

My fingers are crossed too! I already know what I'm reading for each of our potential winning shelves if one of them gets called!

Me too!!!!!

Review: All I could think about when reading this book was that Kate reminded me so much of a female version of Harry from the Dresden Files Series. (This, of course, is a good thing)! I enjoyed Kate immensely…her independence, her toughness, and her mischievous sense of humor. I think she found some good allies with Curran and the rest of the Pack, and I can see them working together in future books. Not sure about any romance here, but you never know. The world was a little confusing at first…not a lot of details and left me wanting to know more. On the other hand, the book had plenty of action and moved along at quite a quick pace. Still some unanswered questions at the end though, which leaves lots of room for more in the next installments. Overall for me, not an exceptional read, but good nonetheless; and will definitely be reading the next in the series.

Review:
I've finally picked up Gwenvael the Handsome's book, who's been my favourite of the brothers, ever since the first book in the series and I wasn't disappointed.
Annwyl sends him off to the Northlands to meet the Beast, who has information about a thread to the pregnant queen. Having expected a frightening and dangerous warrior, he's quite a bit surprised when he meets Dagmar, a sharp-witted and politically versed young woman, who loves to bury her nose in a book, and who isn't very impressed by him. While travelling together, they get themselves in quite a few dangerous situations and their relationship slowly grows.
We still get to read quite a bit about the previous and future couples and also meet a new dragon group, that seems interesting.
This was another great story from the Dragon Kin world, that was funny and entertaining, yet also had a very sad and tragic part that nearly made me cry.

Glad you're going to continue with Kate Daniels, Lisa. I think the books just keep getting better as you go on! :)
Looks like we're ready for the magic stamp! I'll go ahead and request it! :)

Let's keep our fingers crossed for Vampires or New2You for the next shelf!
If it's vampires I am going to read

Thanks Steph Ann! And great job team!
I'm over at a friends house for the weekend. They let me use their computer, so I can check in from time to time. The shelf announcement isn't up yet, so I'll come back in a couple hours. I brought 4 books with me, making sure I have Vampires & New2You Author covered as well as a few more. LOL.
Illinois is supposed to be having storm effects from Hurricane Isaac and Labor Day plans are in flux around here. So far, all we've gotten is a small amount of rain and very high humidity. No where near the severe winds and rainfall they were predicting.

Daffodil, we haven't gotten much rain yet either aside from early this morning. I keep checking the weather channel to see when it's supposed to start up again.

I'm going to read

Happy reading, everyone in this final week of the game! :)

Not sure what I should read for the psychic shelf, I've been so fixated on the vampire and new2you shelves! My first thought was to go on with the PsyCop series, but unfortunately my next in line has less than 200p :(.
I might go for either

Kerstin, it was a struggle to finish it. I kept checking my progress on my Kindle to see how close to the end I was, which is really sad. It's usually not that hard to please me when it comes to books, but I just had trouble with this one.
Cristina, I'm glad I'm not the only one who tends to skim over the lessor scenes in the BDB books! :)
