Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments Finished: Silence by Becca Fitzpatrick
Shelf: Favorite Series
Read: 2.18
Rating: ★★★★

This is the 3rd book of the series and books 1 & 3 are my favorites. Patch definitely makes the book. I had a love/hate/annoyed relationship with Nora partly because she is and was written as a typical 16 yr old (which lead to some not so nice flashbacks of the emotional roller coaster of a teenager:). She grew up in this book. The story flowed nicely with the reappearance of Scott, the drama with her mom, and the upcoming war between fallen angels and the Nephilim. This was a definite can't put it down and I enjoyed it very much.

Vi | 943 comments Woohoo!! GO, Dawn!! That was fast.

I'm going with Beyond the Shadows (Night Angel, #3) by Brent Weeks as a buddy read starting tomorrow. It should be done in a few days.

message 254: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 150 comments Way to go, Dawn!

I'm almost done with mine. I'm pulling an all nighter. My son is sick so he doesn't want to go to bed just watch movies.

message 255: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments Thanks. That's the one thing about YA they read very fast or at least it seems like it.

message 256: by Lis (last edited Feb 19, 2012 11:06AM) (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Finished: Poltergeist by Kat Richardson
Shelf: Ghosts
Read: 2/18/12
Rating: ★★
Review: Not a big fan of this edition. Harper was brought in to investigate the validity of a university experience of creating an artificial poltergeist. The experiment activity increases, a member is killed and Harper spends most of the book running around interviewing in a "who coulda done it" style. Just came across as a pretty boring read for me as she goes between investigating and discovering more about the "grey" and how she sees and can manipulate time layers there. Not sure if I'll continue with this series.

Lis | 4037 comments Sorry for the delay team... Busy kid weekend and boring book choice this week. Good job Dawn with the quick reading.

I think I'll finish up the Nightwalker series with Adam (Nightwalkers, #6) by Jacquelyn Frank for favorite series.
If it drags I might switch to Horizon (Aftertime, #3) by Sophie Littlefield

Happy reading!

message 258: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Yay, Lis!! We are done with the Ghosts Shelf as well!!

message 259: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Vi I'm going with Adam. It's moving sooo much better than my last choice.

I'll save Horizon for the post apocalyptic shelf.

message 260: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments OK, Lis. I'll add the book to the first post. Happy Reading! I need to get started on mine as well. It's a chunky. (And crap, I need to find a book for the post apocalyptic shelf)

message 261: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments well hullo there *sales woman pitch* it seems you require a PA book, ma'am! lol

message 262: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 132 comments Finished: Vampire Mine
Shelf: Favorite Series
Read: 2/19
Rating: ★★★★

I really like the Love at Stake series and the 10th book in the series is no different. While there were some parts that were rather cliche, like the hero thinking himself unworthy of love and forgiveness, there is so much more that was original. For instance, I loved that that the heroine was an angel and that she didn't suddenly become completely modern and still didn't understand what some people were saying even after a week. Overall it was a wonderfully fluffy book in a very good way.

message 263: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Lol, Midu! I think Hunger Games is PA. You have something shortlisted?

message 264: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Good Going, Heather!!

message 265: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments yeah, might wanna try Nightfall (Dark Age Dawning, #1) by Ellen Connor

message 266: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 132 comments Vi wrote: "Good Going, Heather!!"

Thanks ^.^ -- And yeah, The Hunger Games is PA. - I haven't technically "read", and I don't think I will but I listened to a lot of it and the second one on audio-book. My brother (the one who was listening to it) really liked it and if you were to listen to the audio the reader is really good... (her voice more than the story was what had me listening to as much as I did).

Midu wrote: "yeah, might wanna try Nightfall (Dark Age Dawning, #1) by Ellen Connor"

Mmmmm..... love that cover. That might be my choice.

message 267: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments i know, right? but the book wouldn't be what you'd expect. kinda surprised me, you know?

message 268: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Midu, I believe I have the book with me. Gotta search though. Are the three books in the series good?

Heather, I haven't started the HG yet. It's all the hype. Most of my friends assure me that the hype is well deserved but still. I'm really not a fan of audiobooks. I tend to drift off most of the time but I'll try to give this a try.

message 269: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments I know, i don't want you to start HG, either! for the very same reasons :-p

message 270: by Midu (new)

Midu Hadi | 1732 comments yes, i think i rated the last two 4stars. maybe you should check out LK's review for them..

message 271: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Oh yes, I find that completely believable. I'll check the reviews out but as long as the trilogy is ok, I'm on board with starting them.

Heather (heathermb) | 132 comments Vi wrote: "I'm really not a fan of audiobooks. I tend to drift off most of the time..."

Lol, I do the same thing. Have you ever heard a book turned into an audio play though? Instead of one person changing their voice it's a whole cast. I've listened to a few of those with my brother.

message 274: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Oh, no. I haven't heard of them nor listened to them. You mean HG is available as an audio play? Where do I find them?

message 275: by Heather (new)

Heather (heathermb) | 132 comments I don't know that HG is one, my brother's the one that finds them. He listens to a lot of older books like Agatha Christie's stuff and Conan Doyle. Most of those are put out by the BBC but there are newer books too. I went looking and found this site that lists some: http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/audio...

message 276: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yay Heather!

And I really liked the Hunger Games series. I'm not big on YA, but these were different enough to suck you in. I have this itch to read books that are being made into movies before they come out. The trailers have been so tempting, it appears they got it right.

message 277: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments I love audiobooks. I spend almost two hours a day commuting to work, so I get bored with radio djs. I usually buy ones I've read first and enjoyed. It makes a huge difference on who narrarates and the storyline. Some are much better than others, and the $$ investment makes it important you get good ones. It also let's me "read" while I'm exercising, cleaning, cooking, gardening....

message 278: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I do a lot of commuting during the day too but it's usually in taxi or public transport. And I end up reading on my e-reader. It's been like that for the past 7 years. During my college years, it was an hour to commute. In the bus, I used to do nothing but read. But somehow, i can't listen well to audiobooks.

Re: Hunger Games - the movie coming out makes me want to read the book too. I'm confused whether to read the book before watching the movie or after watching the movie. I've heard sometimes, that the latter makes you enjoy the movie better.

message 279: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Heather, thanks for the link! I'll go through the list to see if there's anything interesting.

Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments I just started with the audio and have to say I'm hooked. It was hard at first and of course I didn't start with an easy read - it was the Game of Thrones. Havent finished it either one day.... maybe. But really helps when you have a great narrator.

I lived the HG got the hubby to read them and he doesnt read much fiction and he lived them! Can't wait for the movie. I always like to read the book first typically I get much more out of the book then the movie. I also try not to have high expectations for the movie, although The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo was done very well.

message 284: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments I finished Celebrity in Death (In Death, #34) by J.D. Robb today. If I don't finish my read before the others do, then I'll use this book for the favorite series.

message 285: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Dawn, I started the audio with The Help but I have gotten only halfway. It was a great audio book but now I've left it hanging. Also, I've listened to all 7 audiobooks of Harry Potter (amazing, really) but I figure that's because its HP.

One of my friends told me that seeing the movie without reading the book makes a different experience. Books to movies are not always good experience especially when we have read the book first.

message 286: by Lis (new)

Lis | 4037 comments Yeah Divas!

message 287: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawn_e) | 185 comments Oh I've hated movies because it was way off from the book. If you like the " in death" series try the audio. Im starting the series again this time in audio and Susan narrator does a great job.

Lis | 4037 comments Finished: Adam by Jacquelyn Frank
Shelf: Favorite Series
Read: 2/21/12
Rating: ★★★★
Review: Great ending to this series. What an OMG beginning! I'll avoid spoilers, but i kept thinking that this can't be happening. Everything was pulled together in this final edition, as most of the series has been leading up to the ultimate confrontation of good vs evil. All the couples that have been made stronger thru the imprinting come together. If I had a complaint, it would be that the namesake didn't get much primetime and his coupling seemed rushed and not fully developed. I wish this one was a little chunkier and we got a few more chapetrs of Adam. Also introduced a mystery character that I hope will be revealed in the spinoff series of Shadowdwellers and Gathers.

Jennifer | 150 comments Finished- Kittys House of Horrors by Carrie Vaughn
Shelf- Favorite Series
Date- February 20
Rating- four stars
Review- I had mixed feelings about this book. I liked reading about Kitty interacting with other people besides Ben, but I love reading about them. All in all, it was good. It was kind of predictable. For instance, I knew who was involved event though it was trying to convince you different . I liked tina, and I wish things would have turned out differently for her.

Vi | 943 comments Way to Go, Lis and Jennifer!!

Finished: Celebrity in Death by J.D. Robb
Shelf: Favorite Series
Read: 21/2/12
Rating: ★★★★
Review:The In Death series is over 30 books long and still going strong. An unexpected surprise found me getting the book from the mailbox. The last few (especially 2) books have been a bit of disappointment to me (New York to Dallas, I'm looking at you!) It was with some trepidation that I started the book and with lowered expectation, I must admit. But the book was way better. The mystery was ok and I couldn't guess who it was. But the way the crime was laid out and the police procedure followed by Eve was very interesting. Eve and Roarke were awesome as always. And there was a sweet sweet scene with Peabody and McNab. Another remarkable change is that this book was funny in many places. I was smiling a lot when I was reading the book. All in all, I'm back to a very eager fan of the series. I can't wait for the next book!

Was NY2D really bad? I've bee putting it off because the summary made it sound meh and the title change-up makes me twitch. I liked Treachery though and thought it was a nice change since you knew who what and why from the beginning.

message 295: by Sandra, Kindle Operator Licence Required (new)

Sandra | 25908 comments I liked it Heather. It was a bit different because most of the action is in Dallas - so it is more Roarke & Eve rather than the whole gang.

message 296: by Vi (new)

Vi | 943 comments Not really bad. I liked it but not much as I wanted/expected to. I guess there was a lot of build-up prior to the release about Dallas going back to the roots that the climax wasn't that big or shocking for me. That's why I was disappointed with it. But I wouldn't skip it - story wise it was very good. As Sandra said, it's more Roarke and Eve.
