I believe comparisons are odious. The obvious exapmle is Potter but it does you no justice. it makes you sound like a Rowling Wannabe which is sad. I think your book stands very well on its own merit. It shouldn't be thought of as like anything but itself.

Well, now I've finished it and it's fabulous. I always feel you have to be a better writer than average to capture a teenaged audience. They won't wait around while you slowly build backgrounds and plot elements. They want the story - in this book, they get it!

I've got a number of books on the go, but book #2 isn't one of them yet (though I have a title and a story idea). I have 2 other fantasy books I'm working on - one with a 13-year-old boy and another with a 17-year-old boy, both with female counterparts of the same age. They both go much more swiftly into the action than Serpent, especially the former which - unusually for me - is written in first person.

I am finishing up two short parodies at present. There's so much I want to write, and so many ideas!

I didn't feel that Serpent was slow to start. I know one or two of your US reviews suggested so. They are wrong! There's nothing like self faith eh?

I rather like first person stories. I know some people don't but they are immediate.

I prefer third person, to write and read, but first person can work well for some stories.

Having only read the blurb which says "school for gifted children" I'm going to leave a review complaining that your book is a clone of x-men, just to be different.

Presently rewriting some of Grimm's fairy tales for my own nefarious purposes...

Something I'd like to do - a bit of a personal challenge - is to write in as many genres as I can. The only problem with this is I need to finish some series. Here's my thoughts so far:

+ Middle Grade fantasy - done.
* Parody of classic literature - publishing very soon
+ (younger) YA first-person fantasy - at 12k
+ (older) YA fantasy - at 30k
+ historical fiction - not started
+ suspense/thriller - not started (but got an idea)
+ fairy tales (humour) - about 25% done
+ sci-fi - not started but lots of ideas

Well, my Pride and Prejudice parody is now being reviewed by Amazon. I hope to announce its release on Monday!

You missed paranormal romance and chick-lit or as I like to think of it, chuck -lit (thank heaven!)

hehe. Prunejuice would've been a good one; though I suspect the plot may have run away with itself...
