Goodreads Syncing to Kindle
I have tried everything and can not get the syncing to work between goodreads and my kindle. Actually my kindle is not even syncing with the kindle.amazon.com website. I have the kindle 3 and have set everything up according to the instructions; but still no luck.

My kindle is registered with amazon. Its the kindle.amazon.com website that isn't automatically updating my reading status even when I mark the book i'm reading as public, then also not syncing with goodreads. oh well, since I have to go mark each book as public at the amazon site; it's just as easy to go add it myself to goodreads site.

You don't need a CC to shop in the kindle store you can get Kindle Gift cards with cash at a lot of places like Best Buy or any place that sells Kindles usually. If you can't find those then buy a pre paid CC and use that.
Boy, am I glad to know it's just not me! I stumbled across this feature on the AMazon website and haven't for the life of me been able to figure out what I was doing wrong! Guess it wasn't me!

I'm not allowed to buy from .com, it always refers me back to .co.uk. annoying, as there are two books I want on .com
I too like the concept. I followed the instructions to a "T"... but thy still didn't work. Any news on how to fix all of these errors?
Not sure if I'm reading all of this correctly. When you do settings, the only 2 websites that are given are Twitter and Facebook. I haven't seen even a mention of Goodreads. So I'm a bit confused. I always rate a book on my Kindle when I finish reading it but never knew where those ratings went. Had no clue the kindle.amazon.com site existed. Learn something new every day. It is a convenient place to see what Kindle content has been read.
I think I will give you information about kindle. You can read the tips and guide at : kindle reviews
Just picked up a Kindle Fire earlier this week and have been using it happily so far.I tried setting up the the Kindle/GoodReads sync by adding my Kindle Profile URL (https://kindle.amazon.com/profile/Cra...) to my GoodReads profile in the Kindle Settings section (http://www.goodreads.com/user/kindle_...).
The book I'm currently reading is set to publicly show updates and is showing up in my Kindle profile however the changes don't seem to be reflected inside GoodReads. Anybody else having trouble with this?
I'm a developer and was thinking about writing my own tool to do this using the GoodReads API but wanted to check to see if there is anything else I should try here first? Or possibly anything I can contribute to help get the GoodReads app working?

I haven't been able to do it also. Since you are thinking about developing, can you develop a way to create collections like on the kindle 3g.............thanks

Yes, I've set up my Kindle Fire and am having the same issues as you. At first I thought it was because I forgot the https part of my link, but after changing that it still doesn't sync to what I'm reading.
Looks like it wouldn't be possible for shared accounts. My wife and I are on the same Amazon account, which lets us each read books we buy, but it lets out the possibility of doing this.
Rich wrote: "Looks like it wouldn't be possible for shared accounts. I share my account and as far as I am concerned it works exactly the same why but with two people having access to the site to update their stuff.
When you do this, the only URL available is for the primary account holder (there isn't one for each Kindle in the family)...
How Do I Find My Profile Url?
Go to https://kindle.amazon.com/ and sign in. Mouse over the "Hello" message at the top right and click "View your profile". The URL of the next page is your profile url.
For example: https://kindle.amazon.com/profile/Oti...
Oh I see what you mean. You mean if there are separate Goodreads it wouldn't work.My Aunt doesn't have a goodreads so I don't have to worry about this.
Sheila wrote: "I'm brand new to Kindle but think this would be a great feature. My question i how do you turn on "sharing" for a book?"Sheila, If you go to Manage my Kindle on Amazon you will see your Kindle Library and each book has an actions button next to it. Click on it and it will say "Loan this title" if lending is allowed. Hope this helps! :-)

Actually, if you are both sharing the same Amazon account, I don't think there is any way to tell it to show what book you are reading instead of which one she is reading. Now if only one of you has a Kindle, I guess that's not an issue.
Hi,I just tried this synching and it didn't seem to work. I've publicised the books I want people to know about but I guess there's no 'sync' button to make Goodreads pick the data from Kindle (or none I can see).
I can see this is a pretty old thread so maybe it doesn't work? Or possibly it's something to do with security? E.g. it's looking at https: link but at no point did I ever remember giving GoodReads the right to connect to my Kindle account, so I'm not sure how it would read this data?
the kindle link its not working.. (http://www.goodreads.com/user/kindle_...) when i reach that page shows this error message (http://minus.com/mbo6IkkItd) and the ereaders page doesnt work too (http://www.goodreads.com/ereaders).. i want to sync my kindle with my goodreads account.. any suggestions?
Might of been disabled since amazon bought shelfari and probably wants us to use that site instead of goodreads.
It looks like amazon has a page called "your_books" at https://kindle.amazon.com/your_reading
does that allow the old functionality from
http://www.goodreads.com/user/kindle_...
to come back?
*looks hopeful*,

I checked out the Your Books feature on Amazon Kindle. It doesn't seem to have anything in the Settings for syncing to GoodReads.ed. removed an inaccurate sentence

When you finish reading, select Go To End and it will present a screen that lets you rate the book.
No, it turns out that because I was using Safari the java applet wasn't working properly. When I switched to Chrome, the list was perfect.Still bummed that there's no integration between the Kindle Your Books list and GoodReads.

the link just took me to goodreads home page, i see no link to amazon. i then logged into amazon, saw no my books link
This new integration only works on newer Kindles, 2nd gen Paperwhite, etc. All of us that have Paperwhites that are less than a year old and not 2nd gen are SOL on this Goodreads integration. You get the feature automatically in the latest software upgrade for a Paperwhite 2nd gen, Fire HD, etc. You can easily tell which generation you have by the fact that after the update you either have a "g" in the far right of your menu bar -- or you don't.
I think I prefer using the website regardless. I have the goodreads app on my ipad & hate it.. so if the kindle uses an app anything like the goodreads app I would hate it.
Has anyone been able to find their groups on the goodreads integration from this last update? The only way I have found it is to go to the website.
Robin Lyn wrote: "Has anyone been able to find their groups on the goodreads integration from this last update? I'm hoping that if it isn't there, we will be able to access groups in a future update.
I'm not sure that would be a good idea for me. People might start to have concern for my stability. :-) At the moment, I am reading four different books on kindle, plus two library nonfictions, and a fiction I bought.
Will this work on a Kindle Fire?
I like the link from Kindle to Goodreads. However, on the kindle my books only have the following categories under "my shelves": shelved books, read, currently reading, and want to read. I can't see my existing book shelf categories, nor can I assign a new book to my pre-defined categories - everything is lumped together under "shelved books." Is it the same for everyone else? Is there any plan to change this? My GR android app has much more functionality.
Hi, I just got my hands on latest Kindle Paperwhite... and am a newbie to the Kindle book reading.I read a book recently on it and want to share it via Goodreads but the Share button not working and not abel to figure out how to make it work.
Is it like mandatory that Goodreads will share only pourchased book? cause this one I got it from my sis via kindle email upload feature.
please help
thank you
I hoped so much that my books will sync automatically between goodreads and kindle... But I live in France, where goodreads and french amazon are not friends. I hope that soon they will add this feature!!!
No, but newer Kindles have Goodreads integration out of the box. You can't sync all your highlights as Goodreads quotes, unfortunately, but you can share single highlights to Goodreads.
I would prefer that my kindle doesn't automatically update my status to "read" on goodreads, is there a way I can stop this from happening?
I feel the same as Cheri. I review differently on Amazon than on GR. I also review under a pen name on Amazon - which I should like to keep doing. If I add my Kindle to GR, can I ensure my reivews aren't shared from one site to the other, please? And it won't automatically show my earlier Amazon reviews on GR, will it?
Loretta wrote: "I feel the same as Cheri. I review differently on Amazon than on GR. I also review under a pen name on Amazon - which I should like to keep doing. Loretta wrote: "I feel the same as Cheri. I review differently on Amazon than on GR. I also review under a pen name on Amazon - which I should like to keep doing. But it still appeared on here. I couldn't tell you how this works only that I'm not going to be a bit unsure about reviewing.
