Honestly, if you are posting spoiler material, it should always be marked here. Not everyone reads at the same pace, and many people like to discuss as they read, not just after they've finished, so to be considerate of everyone who may be reading a thread, all spoilers should be marked.
No, there's not a statute of limitations on spoilers. NOBODY has read every single book in existence. And just because this is a place for Stephen King fans doesn't mean that everyone in the group will have read all of his books. This is a group that welcomes anyone who enjoys King's work - whether they are a lifelong fan or just starting their first book.
We expect you to be considerate of other readers and mark spoilers. If you choose not to do that, then this isn't the group for you.

Ok thanks! That will save a few people some heartache! There is also a way to do it without typing it... in case you want to know for next time.. http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4...

Firstly, Henry, I think we need to quit with the juvenile name calling. Angie wasn't being a "spoiler nazi" - she was behaving as a moderator should and making sure that the discussion isn't ruined for other people in the group who read this thread but haven't finished the entire series.
We have a spoiler policy. We enforce it. That's what moderators do.
If you think that discussions should be handled differently, Goodreads allows you to create your own group with your own rules and policies.
"You are selfish to go on the site with all the other fans and demand they only discuss the parts that you've read."
Nobody is demanding this. You're misinterpreting our rules. You can discuss whatever you want, you just need to advise that it may be a spoiler to others.
To answer your question, of course Squire is entitled to voice his opinion regarding the books. We're not silencing discussion, we're asking for a heads up about what will be discussed, so that if people aren't yet to that point, they won't have their reading experience ruined for them.
And yes, your advise is good. When in doubt, mark everything as potentially being a spoiler. Glad we're finally on the same page. :)
...because it's so much easier to take on the victim mask, cry foul, and type a wall of text justifying assholish behavior than it is to type "(spoiler)...(/spoiler)".
I get it.
I get it.
Henry wrote: "This isn't about me - it's about all the spoiler nazis that jumped down Squire's throat...Squire has read everything multiple times, has insight and something to say. He has a right to speak and is worth 100 posts of "um, didn't like it." So I stick up for Squire. My respect goes out to the fans, not the annoying friends that get pissed because they're the only ones who haven't read the piece two years later.

Thanks, Henry! I appreciate that. My views on the DT series (and alot of King's books) are pretty strong, but I enjoy all of King's books. Still, a snarky spoiler alert (knowing that most will continue reading anyway) is sorta fun.
BTW, I rank the DT books as follows:
1. The Drawing of the Three--narratively and imaginitvely superior to all the rest.
2. The Wind Through the Keyhole--not much DT story here, but it was a joy to read.
3. The Wastelands--the first half is the true ending of TDot3.
4.The Gunslinger--The first five stories set the tone.
5. Song of Susannah--stylistically different, reads like a republic serial.
6. The Dark Tower--didn't like the ending originally, but now I agree with King that it was the only way to end the series.
7. The Wolves of the Calla--Still can't get over the **SPOILER** robotic Doctor Dooms **SPOILER**
8. Wizard & Glass--see above.

I moderate another forum myself, so I understand your position, Becky. I'll try to behave (no promises tho.) ;)
**SPOILER ALERT**
Redacted for your hygenic protection per policy.
**END SPOILER ALERT**
I actually don't think it's amusing to spoil things for other people. We read (and watch movies and TV) for the experience and entertainment. We get invested in the story, and having it ruined is frustrating because you can't get the experience back. You guys might think it's cute, but I don't, and I'm not amused. So, Squire, you can hide those spoilers behind an actual spoiler tag using HTML and advise that they are spoilers for specific movies, or I'll delete your post. Per our policy.
Cute. I don't care about your little jokes as long as you're not spoiling things in this group. I will just be deleting posts that contain spoilers going forward. Fair warning.
Well, this just isn't the forum for serious discussions on the DT books--even the discussions which warn of spoilers in the title still need to have spolier tags in the posts. Everybody has something to contriubte and a lot of time the people who are just starting out have the freshest ideas, but that doesn't seem possible on this site. That doesn't seem to be it's purpose. That's fine. That spolier within a spoiler thingy was something I came up with on the site I help moderate (though it's a lot more difficult to execute when you have to type the tag rather than just click a button for it.)
But it was fun...
Sorry you guys feel that way. Every other member of the group seems to have no problem having serious discussions here while still being considerate of newer readers. *shrug* Not sure what to tell you, but we're not changing the policy because you don't like taking 2 seconds to type a spoiler tag.
I have yet to see a spoiler tag on this thread (other than my string of tags). It's all just done with warnings which I'm willing to do. I don't see why my posts are any different than anybody else's. **SPOILER ALERT**
**SPOILER ALERT**
The following question is for people who have completed reading the whole series. Be warned.
Q: Since W&G is a back story to Roland's quest, what was the first mistake Roland made on his quest? Is it related in W&G? I get the sense that it is, though I've never tried to pinpoint it before.
Thoughts?
**END SPOILER ALERT**
Your posts aren't any different than anyone else's, but the content that you were asked to mark as a spoiler was for the entire series which is not what this thread is discussing. This is not rocket science. I'm through discussing it. If you don't follow our rules, I'll be happy to remove you from the group and you can form your own with your own discussion rules.

I do wish goodreads didn't make us type everything in HTML and don't just have buttons to mark things. Or just copy and paste a photo.

Actually this post started before goodreads made it possible for the spoilers to be hidden with HTML. I have been with this group since the beginning... since practically goodreads started up. And back then we couldn't mark them really well so goodreads finally fixed that.

No, she meant a later book in the series. This thread is for the 4th book, but Squire's post contained info from the 7th book and overall series.
