Witty retorts were lined up in Holly's mind, but her superego held them back. No one wanted to be enemies with him. "All right," she answered quietly and settled down a few feet away from him, feeling childishly angry. It's not fair, I should be able to come up here and enjoy the view without being scared. But as long as he wasn't scaring her senseless, she was fine with sitting there and peering at the grass ever so interestedly.

"Hunters got healed," Evander mused quietly, flicking out his dagger and carving patterns in the rock. "Means the heroes are close to coming back. If they're all still there, of course."
((Wth? O.o))
Holly had heard this enough to ignore the taunting pull, and responded appropriately, "So I've heard. It's a shame we lost s few of them, but I suppose they'll go on living in the stars and through the hearts of others." Of course, these words were probably wasted on him.

Too true, they were, and Evander snorted, jutting the dagger deep in the rock. "Why anybody would ever want to be immortal is beyond me," he said in a scathing tone. "Ridiculous idea. Especially if you're a prepubescent girl who still thinks boys have cooties."
And then, Holly unexpectedly laughed, a quiet, but low sound, maybe even a bit bitter. Her lip quirked up into a slightly amused half-smile, and she nodded. "Ridiculous indeed."
"That's a first," Evander remarked with only a trace of the usual acidity in his tone. "I suppose I must be losing my grip."
"There's a first time for everything," Holly said turning her head up toward the sky and narrowing her eyes at the sun's blinding light. A familiar scream of a hawk sounded not too far off, Fawkes. She'd always thought of the bird as her guardian, though at time the idea seemed, well, ironically, ridiculous.
((That was a fast dinner. o.o))
"Not for me there isn't," Evander mumbled to himself, casting his gaze to the V-shaped silhouette in the sky. A sudden image of the hawk spiralling out of control, dropping like a pebble to the earth, flashed through Evander's mind, but he was used to thoughts like these and wove it away.

((It was also small. xD))
Oblivious to the thoughts that would strike absolute terror into her heart, Holly lolled her head inquisitively toward Evander. There was an intensity about the curiosity that was in her eyes, like she was calculating him, analyzing him, trying to figure him out--A very similar look to the one Evander had given Lucas earlier. "I'm sure there is, it just needs--or can--be found."

"Whatever, I'm not one for firsts anyway," Evander said, cynicism creeping back into his voice. "Have you done that essay for Chiron? The lesson we learned-- or should have learned-- from the Trojan War, or some shit," he added oh-so eloquently. Truth was, he was sterring the subject away from himself because he did not like the way those steely grey eyes were staring him down. Not one bit.
"Done, done, and done," Holly said with a wave of her hand, sitting up and removing her gaze from him easily. It was almost as if she knew that he didn't like it, maybe even toying with him. "I know that War like the back of my hand, it was mindless. What 'bout you?"
"Easy enough," Evander said, chucking mirthlessly, throatily. "It was the best war of all time. A little hard not to go anti-god on it, though."
"Mmhmp, rather entertaining war, I suppose." Holly fiddled with a few blades of grass, trying to create a minuscule chain. Her fingers were careful enough so that only a few were torn, mostly because she wasn't putting much effort into it.
"Then it was 'glorifyingly entertaining'," Holly replied with a light layer of sarcasm in her tone.
"I beg to differ," Evander said, cynical now, as usual. "The Age of the Heroes. Nice ring to it, I suppose."
"Humm, you know..." Holly trailed with her brow in knit in thought, sitting up and looking at Evander with the same, calculating eyes.
"What?" Evander said, keeping a rein on his mental defense as he stared back into the terrifyingly calm eyes with his crystal blue ones.
"Nothing," Holly said, dismissively blunt. But the slight quirk of her lip made it look like she was hiding something.
"Knowledge has so much power, doesn't it?" Holly said, narrowing her eyes into steely slits. "You of all people should know that." She deliberately didn't answer his question, why? She was still trying to figure some of that out herself.
"I have no idea what you're talking about," Evander said derisively-- under the iron mesh of his barbed voice lay genuine puzzlement. What in Hades is she going on about now?
"Don't you?" Her words were enveloped in a case of sarcasm and was that a trace of sympathy or some cynicism of her own?
Refusing to acknowledge the sudden fear that took hold of his mind, Evander snarled, jarring forwads a series of personalized telepathic mail for Holly. Caspar yelling, choking, dying, blood gurgling out of his mouth, and being swallowed by a wave of spiders. "Talk straight, Holly," he said, voice pleasant, almost kind.
Holly took in a shuddering gasp, as if she'd just been splashed with ice water, and squeezed her eyes shut, but it only made the vision all the more horrifying. Finally, she opened her eyes enough to give Evander a deadly calm stare, though her insides churned with terror. "I'm not scared of you, Evander," she choked out, mustering every ounce of strength. And I never will be. You're showing me things that aren't happening, she chided herself.
"I'm sure," Evander said in that same pleasant conversational tone. "Good day, Holly." And may spiders haunt every single step you take.
Evander got up easily, making sure his aura was on such a high level that the trees themselves seemed to be leaning far away from him.

"As long as you can't control it you'll never know," Holly called after him darkly, hands shaking with fear and strain of trying to stop the screams that threatened to come out. And if he doesn't know, he'll fall apart. "And I'm the only one who can tell you." With the last words, a whimpering sound followed.
After what he did, one would think that Holly would hate Evander, never speak into him ever again, avoid and ignore him. But for the stubborn streak that she was known for, she wouldn't. I'm not scared of him, and I won't let him think I am. Ever. She narrowed her eyes after him, the dark shadow of a branch crossing over her face. "You'll come looking for help soon enough, Bell." And with that, Holly crept into the forest, feeling a bit more paranoid than usual.
Drake took a nice little stroll up the trail, cockiness getting the better of him. Silence was all he needed at the moment, after all, he'd just had a little fun.
