Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 271 comments Engrossing summer read

Want to read something that may change your life? Check out what Kindle Nation Daily called “the next great sleeper hit”. Read the reviews and then decide. Thank you.

Power was out. Flickering strawberry-scented candles lit the room. Nearly a decade had passed since Nathan stood inside someone’s home, since that terrible September morning when he lost everything he ever loved. Outside, a hurricane sounded like it was beating palm trees against the siding. Nathan didn’t know the sickly woman who’d rescued him from the throes of the epic storm. Her name is Miriam and she is about to change everything he ever thought about the meaning of life and what lies beyond. Nathan discovers the strength of love can piece his shattered world back together and heal wounds that cut deep into his soul. With the clock ticking toward the end of Miriam’s life, he never figured the perils he and this dying woman were about to face by knowing the most horrible knowledge one can know.

DROP OUT is a beautiful tapestry of life, love, and acceptance that is powerful, romantic, and real. You will be touched deeply. Order today.

Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 271 comments A great summer read that may keep you up late at night with all the lights in the house turned bright.

DEGENERATES

An alcoholic writer, a self-destructive teen, a burnt-out waitress, an abused young wife, a good-natured cook, a tormented serial killer, and the cop unwittingly assigned to stop him. Marred with addictions, poverty, and personal loss, each degenerate overcomes incredible obstacles and finds his or her own salvation working in a restaurant named City Café. They form new friendships and relationships, and in a short time turn their lives around — until Tommy Fielding is hired. Seeming innocent at first, Tommy is a schizophrenic who believes murder will ensure for him an existence of perfect happiness. What happens next places the group in grave danger and leads them into a horror that will change everything about their lives.

Robin Craig Clark (rudhek) The end of the story and the beginning of life
Our true nature can never truly be expressed in words. Words are finite symbols of ideas. Awareness is the closest phenomenon that reveals what we are, right here, right now. What is real is you are alive, present, and reading these words. What is real is you are aware of existing, of being alive. Your true nature is awareness itself. It is the one thing always present, in all that you are doing, even when you are asleep, and whether you are aware of it or not!
Truth is stranger than fiction.

Anyone concerned about the growth of poverty might like to read my latest book about an idealistic MP who starts a political party. Jane Patterson's fiery maiden speech launched the most brutal and slanderous attack on the character of a member of parliament ever known. Sounds heavy! The issue is, the story is a delicious romp. Neil Ostroff (httpgoodreadscomneil_ostroff) | 271 comments Please check out my latest spine-chilling thriller.

One week. Two thousand miles. And a crazed serial killer.

FROSTPROOF
On a winter night in 2009, Niles Goodman risked his life to try and save a woman and her newborn infant from a terrible car accident. The injuries he sustained left him unable to work and the financial strain is taking a heavy toll on his marriage. Enter Cody Larson and the promise of 1.5 million dollars if Niles chauffeurs him to Seattle to retrieve a dead drug dealer’s buried cash and narcotics. What entails is a weeklong trip into madness as Cody kills indiscriminately, and then after each murder explains his philosophy behind the slaughter. He calls it the frostproof. He believes he is the antichrist and will soon rule the world, until their hellish journey takes an unexpected turn.

George Bernstein (suspenseguy) | 97 comments An Amazon Top 100 author, my, second novel, A 3rd TIME TO DIE (http://www.amazon.com/dp/0989468100)is a unique paranormal Romantic Suspense, different from the glut of vampires, werewolves, angels and demons. It centers on Past Life experiences, more in the vein of Nora Robert’s Midnight Bayou and the Lifetime movie, Dead Again.

Two souls struggle to fulfill their destiny together. They discover magical love during a fox hunt in 17th Century England, and again in 19th Century Philadelphia. Each time their lives are snuffed out by brutal murder. Reborn a third time, in the 21st Century, their love of jumping horses brings them together again…and their ancient killer may be still stalking them!

A November, 2005, Harris poll found one in three Americans believe in reincarnation, and twice that many believe in some sort of after-life. Highly respected psychiatrist, Dr. Brian Weiss, wrote Many Lives, Many Masters, and several follow-up books, and did many lectures and public appearances regarding the evidence of soul rebirth, including a full hour recently on Ophra. I’ve research the theory of past lives, and have been “regressed” by an associate of Dr. Weiss, to better understand the experience. My wife rode a champion Open Jumper in the early years of our marriage, and I’ve brought insight of that very popular subject to the story.

Wendilyn Emrys, M.A. (wendilynemrys) | 15 comments World Premiere of "The Man In The Red Suit" !
Yes, folks, we are going to produce the play ourselves this coming Holiday season. I will be posting more info as things get finalized. We have rented a NoHo Equity Waiver Theatre for three weekends [the last two of Dec 2013] and the first weekend in Jan 2013. Should be interesting, LOL! Friday and Saturday Nights, and a Sunday Matinée. So, things will be taking a back burner to this project, but we will still be trying to get the second Scarecrows volume out, if possible. Jonathan and I will be wearing many hats, so will be consumed with Sets, Costuming, etc. We will be doing a Kickstarter this coming weekend, so I will be posting a link to that, and when there are tickets available I will do the same. If you are in the Los Angeles area at the time, or know someone who is, please think about attending the play, or passing it on to someone who might be interested. Thanks, Wendilyn The Man In The Red Suit by Jonathan Emrys

My name is Dean Talley and I'm going to tell you how I became a rogue cop. After twelve years on the streets I was able to move the badge from my shirt to my belt and started working homicide. The combination of a broken justice system and bearing witness to the horrors one person can inflict on another had pushed me to the edge. My boss and the other cops could see I was headed to a meltdown. I began working cases alone, pushing the paper and feeding the system.

That ended the day my wife became a victim. Holding her hand as she lay tethered to machines I decided to turn my back on the job and the majesty of The Law. I created my own system of jurisprudence. No motions. No deliberations. There is only the verdict and passage of sentence.

Announcing my new book, Deadly Talley. I'm a long time admirer of the hard-boiled Raymond Chandler book. Rather than encroach on Chandler's turf I've moved the action down the road to the Orange County Gold Coast and brought the story into the present day. "My name is Emma Lou Harris. I've been a member of Facebook since it first started. I've accumulated over two hundred friends, all of them women. We've had a grand time posting back and forth over the past few years. Back in the day, they used to call this gossiping. Had kind of a bad connotation. Facebook changed all that. Made it acceptable. We were having a ball. Then it happened. Don't ask me why. Don't ask me how...My husband joined Facebook!
What were the chances? I'd say about the same as Moses parting the Red Sea, or Captain Kangaroo being demoted to private. I can still hear Fred now, "Facebook's stupid." "That's an
invasion of privacy!" "Stop wasting your time." And yet here he is, in all his masculine glory. And guess who received his first friend request?...
Well I was going to say, "Over my dead body!" but with my luck I'd walk out the front door and get hit by a bus. That's all I'd need. Then my widower husband would probably jump onto my Facebook page, check out my two hundred plus friends and start speed dating..."

Interesting. After years on Facebook, I just closed by account as I realized it's useless except for, as you termed it "gossip." Often mindless gossip that's shared with everyone on Facebook regardless of whether it reveals indiscretions, family secrets, criminal acts or information for those who would hack your credit cards or molest your children. "In this first thrilling installment of Gookenschleim's Beanum Infinitum series, Gookenschleim attempts to find a happy median between eloquent prose and absurdity. The forty-four pages that follow are his attempt to demonstrate just how excruciatingly ambitious even the silliest of stories can be. After all, his main character is a talking pinto bean. It's a way of getting to know me and what I'm interested in writing about.

Here are a couple of snippets from the reviews for Blood Diamonds Conspiracy

For someone not familiar with the works of Yvonne Crowe, this is an excellent place to start. While her book, The Magdalene Conspiracy, is considered her cornerstone book, this book might make a run at that title. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and recommend it to anyone wanting to read a book of real substance and quality. Here is your chance to catch a rising star. Dennis Waller author of Reflections.

I am a big fan of Yvonne Crowe's works. They are finely researched and paint an amazing picture both of the current situation in the lands she explores: as well as their geographical and political history. Here Yvonne takes a current and immensely sad situation in sub-Saharan Africa and builds a totally credible tapestry of how this situation may have arisen: as well as a glimpse into possible futures. Well worth a very-thought-provoking read. Mr Duncan J Baker.

Enjoy

Richard Parise | 104 comments Now in paperback-Funnybones-
Inside this collection are six comical books by humorist R.J.Parise. The titles include, My Husband's On Facebook!, Thoughts At Three, Five and Seven, Facebook Zombies, Hemingway House, The Rhymes and Ramblings of Cantankerous Creatures and Dietina's Diary.
My Husband's On Facebook! is a satirical account of babyboomer couples venturing into the world of social networking. In Thoughts at Three, Five and Seven, children express their thoughts about life. From moms to grammas, from daycare to holidays, these cute little philosophers hold nothing back. For older parents and grandparents, it's a journey down memory lane. For younger parents, it's a pleasant reminder of those earlier wonder years. Facebook Zombies tells the story of life as a Zombie in the era of social networking. Through the posts of Allie and her fellow walking dead, we learn what life,or should I say death, is like in their world. We feel their pain yet envy their freedom. The Rhymes and Ramblings of Cantankerous Creatures combines a humorous short story with comical rhymes. Heather's pet rat Ruby escapes from the confinement and security of her cage to explore the dangers of life in the wild. She meets various creatures in her new home under the deck. Together Ruby and her new found friends explore the neighborhood. After many frightening experiences, Ruby decides that life in the wild is not for her. She attempts to return home to the safety of her cage. Dietina's Diary brings both advice and laughter into the world of dieting. As she struggles to keep her weight down, Dietina never loses her sense of humor. Follow along with the trials and tribulations of Dietina inside Dietina's Diary.

This review is from: Drop Out (Kindle Edition)
I remember watching the towers fall from across the river but couldn't fully fathom what was taking place inside. Neil Ostroff vividly paints that picture in this heartbreaking story about a young man, Nathan Cruz, surviving the unthinkable while losing the woman he loves. He lives with the reminders of that horror every day. He doesn't want to forget. For years, he questions his survival, living like a hermit until he meets Miriam, a free spirit, who through her own tragedy teaches him how precious life is.

Every once in a while a book comes your way and stays with you. This is one of those books. Mr. Ostroff weaves a clear, crisp moving story, and I found myself having to pause and reflect a time or two, not only in my own thoughts, but I also wondered what the author went through while putting words to paper in this beautiful heartbreaker.
This was the first book I read by this author and I look forward to reading more.

Jill (jtelford) | 36 comments Timmy's house is stuffed. The house got so stuffed that no more things could fit inside anymore! Timmy and his family can no longer fit into the house either. Children will laugh, imagine, illustrate their own pictures, learn the gift of giving and ultimately have a lot of fun in this comical interactive story about a house that even burps!

Shanon Grey (shanongrey) | 9 comments Have you all had a chance to view the book trailers for THE SHOPPE OF SPELLS and MEADOW'S KEEP, my first two novels about the descendants of Ruthorford, GA, where being paranormal is normal? Drop over to my page. They're down a little on the left. My paranormal suspenses are available from Amazon and Barnes & Noble. Thanks. http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

The complete book is available here: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DPZPCKU
